........he will be accorded a State Funeral as dignified as President Kennedy's?

Or will he get the funeral he REALLY deserves........

Just a whimsical thought on a wet Saturday morning.

George Clooney isn't mincing his words about Trump and what America has become. He called it a 'Kakistocracy', a country apparently run by the worst people. I agree with gorgeous George

I find it shocking that America seems increasingly like an aggressive, uncaring adversary rather than an a
Allie. The Potus and his chosen few appear to lack compassion, integrity or empathy.
It’s feeling like 1938, that we have a man we all recognise as a dangerous despot leading a country. Appeasement feels necessary yet terrifying. Who will be brave enough to
Point out, the Emperor has no clothes

My feelings exactly Iam64.

His recent 'observations', made during a campaign rally in Nebraska where he was defending the ongoing war with Iran and addressing the 'political liability' of soaring gas prices - though defended by his supporters - was IMO a dangerous and very stupid thing to say. I'm talking of course about this:

"It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe... They can take out a city. Let 'em take out Los Angeles, let 'em take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay."

We all know the man talks in riddles a lot of the time and it's not always clear what he's driving at, he's so darned inarticulate, but the ambiguity of that comment is disturbing.

Even FactCheck.org - my 'go-to' for this kind of stuff, said that the comment suggested he was attempting to describe a preventative scenario rather than encouraging a strike on US soil.

Of course the idiot immediately opened up Truth Social and countered criticism of his comment as "fake and artificial" news, and that what he really meant was "that a temporary increase in the price of Gasoline is a small price to pay for Iran not having a Nuclear Weapon and, if you want to see a big price, can you imagine what it would be like if they bombed San Diego and/or Los Angeles?"

If one of our leaders, Left, Right, or anywhere in the middle, had made a comment like that, I'm pretty sure he'd be roundly condemned by all political parties and asked to stand down... of course, there would always be a few outliers, the kind that seem to revel in chastising normal people for reacting to outrageous comments, but nevertheless...

I'm sure the Iranians are not stupid enough to take the comment as an invitation, however in a tense and fraught environment - one that Trump himself has created - is anyone going to argue that was not a really dumb thing to say?

You never know from one moment to another what whim will prompt this monster into recklessness - he even uses tariffs as a weapon.

And no, Iam - I don't think anyone in his sycophantic circle will be brave enough to tell him he's wearing no clothes, I mean, some of them probably even think like him (but articulate more clearly); and those that can see the wood among the trees are too cowardly, too lacking in moral fibre, and too concerned about their own individual positions to oppose him. They will continue to treat his ramblings as if they are snippets of some sort of divine wisdom and verbally berate anyone who can't appreciate them.

I'm not attacking the American 'Right' here, I'm sure there's many among the ordinary electorate who, whilst maintaining their Conservative ideology, would rather see Trump confined to quiet retirement on one of his golf-courses.

Trump is a dangerous deluded man, who is responsible for more deaths in Ukraine now he has cosied up to his pal Putin.

ronib Thu 15-Oct-26 09:54:53

This war should never have been started. It was never going to be won in a million years by Ukraine. Boris Johnson was completely wrong to support Zelensky. Enough dead bodies. Just stop.

Maremia Thu 15-Oct-26 10:14:14

This war should never have been started...by Putin.
Do you think Putin would have stopped at Ukraine?
Some of the nearby States would not agree with that.

ronib Thu 15-Oct-26 10:27:12

The nearby States have a very legitimate reason to ask for military aid if Putin attacked after reaching a settlement with Ukraine. But we will never know will we?
The rest of the world would of course need to combine its military in this situation and this is a legitimate reason to fight against Putin.

Maremia Thu 15-Oct-26 12:09:01

Why not research 'the history of appeasement in WW2'?
Would you trust Putin to stop?
Which promises has Putin ever kept?

Maremia Thu 15-Oct-26 12:11:40

The rest of the world would not join in a defence of Europe against Putin.
China wouldn't, nor would India or the South American counties, or Saudi Arabia, and I doubt if Trump would.

Maremia Thu 15-Oct-26 12:12:44

Don't you think that invading a sovereign nation was already a legitimate reason to fight Putin?

BlessedArt Thu 15-Oct-26 12:19:41

Yesterday Trump said that anyone leaking information to the press should be shot.

He wants to murder whistleblowers and we have sanctimonious hypocrites on this very thread clutching their pearls about people discussing the inevitability of an overweight elderly man.

Not a single one of them has uttered a negative word about him laughing about Iran possibly murdering his own citizens simply because they do not support Trump politically hmm.

I don't understand this.

Are you saying that Putin had every right to invade Ukraine and that Ukraine should have just let him take it? But that he would be wrong to attempt to take over countries which border Ukraine and those countries would have a legitimate reason to ask for help in repulsing him?

What is the difference between them and Ukraine?

Incidentally, Putin is very far from 'winning' in Ukraine.

Oreo Thu 15-Oct-26 16:56:38

But he isn’t losing it either is he? He can dig in for the long haul while Ukraine gets weaker and it’s citizens suffer.
The US and even European countries will eventually want to stop the constant aid which costs us enormous amounts of money and there will have to be a deal done at some point.
Ukraine will have to lose some territory.

Iam64 Thu 15-Oct-26 17:27:53

Oreo - Why should Ukraine lose territory simply because the dangerous despot next door invaded? I do not agree that Zionism is racist but I also don’t believed that Netanyahu with Trump’s support should be bombing and taking Palestinian land
I’m not wanting this important thread hijacked by the conflict in the Middle East. The ethical, legal behaviour towards neighbours is relevant.
Putin is the aggressor

You can never appease a tyrant. Old men like him, like Trump, Netanyahu, have little to lose by continuing their respective tyranny, until they die. They have no other future, they are bloody old men (along with others) who are screwing the world with their pathological narcissism.

Putin has attempted to destabilise Europe, why do people think that he'll be content to simply win back territory from Ukraine? Is he then going to call it a day? The lust for power is like the lust for greed, neither can ever be satisfied.

I do and I’m horrified by both the continued actions of Trump and of Putin. .

Then we have Gaza and Iran. All of whom are connected to Trump.

This megalomaniac psychopath is a disaster for his own countries and many others!

Why? Why on earth should they?

Why should any country give up part of their own land to appease a dictator?
