I use this duvet cover in warm weather instead of a quilt. I was thinking while hanging it out to dry if others still have theirs? I’ve seen it in a film once, which was indicative of the time. I’m glad I didn’t get rid of it.

In the mid seventies when we lived with my in-laws as newly weds they had the orange duvet cover and sheets, we had a matching cover and sheets but in a pink and purple colour. We called them continental quilts then, not duvets.

Yes, Brentford Nylons; we bought blue brushed nylon sheets from the shop in Hounslow. The lasted and lasted until we were totally fed up with them.

The duvet covers were definitely M&S though, I remember, because we had the curtains to match for our daughter's room.

My mom bought me one this colour and a blue one when I moved into the nurses home to start my training , first time away from home.

\brentford Linens? 1970?

Brentford Nylons wasn't it? Ads on TV featuring an incredible Hulk lookalike, & static electriciy when you moved around in bed.
The OP duvet cover isn't nylon, granted. I had sheets of that pattern when we got married but they were M-i-L hand-me-downs & only used till we could scrape together enough ££ for some more "tasteful" bed linen.

Brentford Nylons, brushed nylon sheets! 😩 1970s I think.
Hated the scratchy feel of them, especially with a catchy toenail JenniRen!

My mum had sheets like that - and curtains, too. About 1972? I would have been 12 that year

And we had the brushed nylon sheets to match !!!

If you put your head under the duvet you could see sparks 😂

I bought mine (identical to the OP's) in 1975. I also had matching wallpaper and curtains.
I made an amber coloured flat sheet into a fitted one to complete the look.

50 years ago! So familiar still.

I had a lovely Dorma duvet cover around 1975, I think I bought it with wedding present money. It lasted for years, didn't need ironing and looked brand new, though I did eventually take it to a charity shop because it didn't work with my bedroom decor.

Brentford nylons!

Harris27 Tue 08-Sept-26 17:18:53

Seventies!

1974. The year our daughter was born, we were given a full set of bed linen in a very similar pattern, but in orange tones. I still have them all, they’re very faded in places, incredibly soft to the touch (not brushed nylon), I never use them, but nostalgia stops me from getting rid of them.

StTrinians Tue 08-Sept-26 17:00:47

Yes, I had a matching sheet and pillow case set very like that. 1979_1980?

Smileforawhile Tue 08-Sept-26 16:45:40

Yes we had one in pink from Marks and Spencers. We had one wall papered the same print behind the bed, curtains and bed linen.

Esmay Tue 08-Sept-26 16:40:36

Terence Conran introduced them and they were sold in Habitat in 1964.
I can't recall the change over in my Mum's house .
I remember buying them in the early seventies .

Definitely M&S!

Those nylon sheets, particularly the brushed nylon, were awful, especially if you had a catchy toenail.

And we had the brushed nylon sheets to match !!!

sankev Tue 08-Sept-26 16:23:21

I had a pink version and my sister had the same as you! I’m thinking early 70’s

\brentford Linens? 1970?

MT62 Tue 08-Sept-26 16:20:36

I would say 70s. Did you have nylon sheets to go with the cover? 😂

Browncow1 Tue 08-Sept-26 15:54:51

I’d say 1974?

Vintagegirl Tue 08-Sept-26 15:33:13

Defo 70's... I was in Germany in 1966 and first experience continental quilt. I won some money in 1968 and bought one but could not get cover for it until got to big London store.

Silvertwigs Tue 08-Sept-26 15:18:25

1972

HobbyCat Tue 08-Sept-26 15:13:11

It’s news to me that there were duvets in the 70s! I had blankets right up to 1982. I remember we called it a continental quilt.
