Cheese or chocolate?

I have just finished making a very rich chocolate pudding (Nigella’s Salted Chocolate Tart for reference) for a family lunch I am off to tomorrow and there has been (just!) a bit of spoon and spatula licking!
Desperate for something savoury to counteract the sweetness, I’ve had a little piece of Stilton and like the Very Hungry Caterpillar, feel much better.
If I had to choose between them though - cheese or chocolate and could never have the other again… after much reflection I think it would have to be cheese.
There are so many wonderful cheeses, but then, handmade proper chocolatier origin chocolate?
Hard choice.
Which one would you choose?

Would have to be cheese for me

Always chocolate. OH is definitely a cheese-aholic while I’m a choc-aholic.

Cheese for me. I find cheese harder to resist than chocolate, although I'd rather not give up either of them!

Witzend Sat 29-Aug-26 12:52:15

Cheese!

Chocolate all the way for me. Will power is out of the window when dark chocolate appears.

Mrs boring here, I'm not that fussed about chocolate and watch my fat input, so neither.

In some ways both have an air of "the forbidden" about them, insomuch as we shouldn't overindulge in either. How I love them depends on the mood. Chocolate is a rarer treat than cheese, which makes it even more desirable. I consumed a "Sparks" tiny chocolate bar with relish the other day courtesy of M&S who gifted to me as a "Sparks" offer, how could I refuse! and it did release a brief euphoria. Then again there are so many delicious cheeses, so it depends on the cheese. It's hard one! no pun intended.

Maybe I'd go for cheese, because it's more versatile and chocolate, well it's not really good for us, unless it's a dark 70% cocoa solids plus and I don't really like the dark bitter types.

Bit of a long winded answer, but tough questions need some in depth analysis grin

Wow! your tart looks good MawsRosie, I bet it'll be delicious.

When I was a teenager my favourite snack was a cheese sandwich, dipped, between bites in a cup of cocoa. A nice bit of each. Now I would say cheese.

Fallingstar Sat 29-Aug-26 13:13:16

Cheese because it is so versatile and yummy in different dishes. Also I can give cubes of cheese as a snack to the GCs but no chocolate 🙄

Fallingstar Sat 29-Aug-26 13:14:01

But that chocolate pudding does look amazing 😜

Aldom Sat 29-Aug-26 13:18:10

It's cheese for me, but in moderation.
Chocolate is pretty low on my list of preferences.

watermeadow Sat 29-Aug-26 13:18:49

If either were available I’d eat all of it. Cheese does at least count as food whereas chocolate is a naughty treat which I eat only when given it.
I don’t like dark chocolate. Perhaps I shall when I’m grown up.

Oh, difficult decision.
I really don't like dark, bitter chocolate at all so it's easy for me to turn that down. Milk chocolate calls me though. If it's in the house I keep going back for more. Have to resist buying it.
Couldn't be without cheese though. Not tempted by it but for so many savoury dishes it's delicious. I prefer it cooked, so a block of cheese in the fridge is never a snack food for me, the way chocolate is.

We're having a big lunch with friends tomorrow so we've already decided it's a shared baked Camembert for tea tomorrow night, with crusty bread and a glass of wine.

I'll go for cheese but only because it's more nutritious. grin

Well, currently, I would say cheese as I had the most delicious steak sandwich with gorgonzola sauce the other day and i'm still thinking about it.

But, DD2 bought some chocolate with crunchie pieces in. It's in the freezer.

Decisions, decisions!

Has to be cheese for me. I love the variety of cheeses we have available to us. I’m very fond of Roquefort, and Cornish Yarg, as well as a nice farmhouse Lancashire!

Cabowich Sat 29-Aug-26 13:38:33

I couldn't possibly choose and don't feel I could exist without either of them. The last two letters of my posting name are 'ch' for cheese or chocolate.

Cossy Sat 29-Aug-26 13:39:16

Both 🤣🤣 🐷🐷

MissAdventure Sat 29-Aug-26 13:52:19

Cheese has always been a clear winner for me.

SueDonim Sat 29-Aug-26 13:56:30

I’m not a huge chocolate fan. I don’t care for chocolate flavoured things so I think it’ll be cheese for me.

M0nica Sat 29-Aug-26 13:57:30

If chocolate disappeared off the face of the world, I doubt I would notice. It is not the chocolate per se, but the sugar it comes with, even in plain chocolate.

I do not have a sweet tooth. Starters and no desserts is my pattern of eating. I eat cheese where other people eat biscuits, cakes, sweets, chocolate, ice cream.

However I am also mildly lactic intolerant. Fresh milk, yogurt, cottage and cream cheese are all off the menu. So I am dependent on hard cheese for my daily dose of calcium. I eat other sources of calcium with enthusiasm: brassicas and the like, but it is hard cheese that does the heavy lifting.

Well, that's my justification. I think I could do with a little bit of cheese.

BlueBelle Sat 29-Aug-26 14:45:50

Cheese
I don’t like chocolate and rarely eat it

Oreo Sat 29-Aug-26 14:57:12

Cheese, without any hesitation 😃
Beautiful as your chocolate tarte looks OP, it would be too sweet and cloying for my taste.

Shinamae Sat 29-Aug-26 14:59:35

Cheese…. vintage cheddar..🤨

Oreo Sat 29-Aug-26 15:14:45

Cheese, Grommit!
