Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where a good head of very dark cloud is building up, but there’s no rain in the forecast.

I went to the gym early yesterday and then followed that up with a two mile walk around a nearby park I’m very fond of. A sad sight, no rolling swathes of usually green grass - it was like walking on shredded wheat, and the woodland trees look woeful. For all that, I enjoyed it. It’s a place that always lifts my spirits.

I have a small ornamental hedge to cut this morning, and must tackle the ironing, but apart from that, a quiet day. I might seek out a few more blackberries later.

Have the best day you can, folks.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire where 28 degrees is forecast.

I have caught OH’s rotten cold. I didn’t do much yesterday apart from trips to Waitrose and a Charity shop where I dropped some bits and pieces off.

Our cleaner came and while she was here I cut out some more squares for a patchwork quilt I’m planning. OH checked on his bees. Two of his hives are infected even after he put in a particular treatment which all beekeepers use.

OH will be out all day with his shooting friends shooting targets.

I usually see a group of friends on a Tuesday but I’m not sure I should inflict my cold on them - I have the beginnings of a cough too!

I may just stay home. I have a cake to make and laundry.

Have a good day.

Good morning from a sunny W Kent where our houseful are fast to sleep, no early rising here. I think their plan is to go to our big shopping centre before being entertained by DD2 late this afternoon. DH and I will avoid the shopping bit I might even attempt to tidy up a bit.
Lovely having them all but we are definitely out of practice
Hope your call goes well Mick
Enjoy various days out and best wishes

Astitchintime Tue 28-Jul-26 07:36:52

Good morning from the NE Mids. I lifted several more onions yesterday and when I checked on the beetroot I found that something had been ‘digging’ ……they’re in a raised bed so it won’t be hedgehogs. I’d already invested in a wildlife camera which will be set up later today ( I need AA batteries and an SD card) so this time tomorrow I should know what’s disturbing the soil around the beets.
Have a good day one and all!

Good morning from an already bright and sunny Suffolk where the temperature is due to soar later. Our house is cool and, especially the north facing side, should remain so hopefully all day.

I’m fascinated by the change in the gradual change of direction of the sun each day which I notice from the very gradual later time it reaches the back yard where all our pots are containing roses which need watering at the moment every day….means I can do it a bit later and enjoy a 2nd cuppa before I do it.

I’km off to meet another friend for coffee this morning after she finishes her Pilates class. I plan to pop into Lidl afterwards as the friend I met yesterday highly recommended their French made brioche marbled with dark chocolate. DH has a sweet tooth and loves dark chocolate.

Hope those with problems of whatever kind have a gentle day.

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s grey with light rain
So annoying about the scrape on the car Bellas, I expect there’s not much you can do though
My aerobics class at the gym today has been cancelled so I’ve a change of plan and will probably have a day at home. I was late home after line dancing last night so I’ll have a lazy morning and then get on with a few jobs.
Enjoy your time with Dollie marydoll and all other grans looking after little ones, special times
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, blue sky and sun again this morning. A hot day is forecast and I’m looking forward to new blackout blinds being fitted today. I hope they may reduce the temperature in my bedroom by a degree or two.
The gardener may come this morning to continue with clearing the back garden. I will need him to put the garden waste bin out later in the week, he’s filled it to the brim and I can’t even tilt it onto its wheels to put it out.

marydoll I’m sorry you’re still feeling so poorly, but hope that a dolly day will make you feel better. Enjoy her company and splashing the cash with her!

I hope all medical appointments go well today and that those who are unwell will soon feel better.

Have the best day you can everyone.

harrigran Tue 28-Jul-26 07:47:24

Good morning from an overcast NE where we the forecast is for 23°.
Yesterday was spent shredding paperwork, third day in a row which left me with an aching back and stiff wrists.
I will do some light housework today and then read my book.
Have a good day.

Good morning from a warm and sunny Torbay.

DH had a day out in Exeter yesterday, following a false start after forgetting his rail pass! Some trains were cancelled and none go beyond Torquay due to a recent arson attack on Paignton station. Meanwhile, I was attempting to Move It or Lose It, not too successfully, due to arthritic knees!

I spent the evening at the theatre where the Asst Director had us running parts of Act One repeatedly. The play opens in two weeks! I’m briefly appearing as an announcer/ newsreader/ investigative journalist!

Back to the theatre this morning to help the Props team.

Have a good day, if possible. 🦩💐😎🥰🦩

Good morning everyone from a dull, cool Lancashire.
Hope your consultation goes ok today, Mick. 🤞

This morning we have a Child in Need meeting via Teams. DH is wfh so he can duck into it for a few minutes.

Later I'm taking the little chap with me to meet up with some old colleagues for lunch. It's over 10 years since we worked together but we always just pick up where we left off last time.

Wishing you all the best day possible, whatever you're doing. 🌻

Ashcombe Tue 28-Jul-26 07:55:47

I’m sorry about your car, Bellasnana. Would it be worth asking if any of the shops have CCTV on their car parks?

Grandmabatty Tue 28-Jul-26 08:01:47

astitchintime could it be squirrels?

Sar53 Tue 28-Jul-26 08:04:53

Good morning from the Essex coast where it is already very warm.
I will be leaving here later this morning to travel to DD2 in Kent.
I can't say I'm looking forward to the journey, I hope the trains are air conditioned.
I'm looking after C who is 8 but no trouble . I think a cinema visit to see Moana is planned plus a shopping trip for school stationary.
Have a pleasant day everyone and take care in the sun xx

Good morning all and another day of hiding from the heat!

Yesterday I went to Chimes group on the bus which was fine but a different matter coming home. The traffic was horrendous and it took nearly an hour to get back home. There are major Road works (near you GG ) which will continue for 3 weeks. Along with other road closures and accidents under the Weir, it took forever.
Actually I was pleased to be on the bus as I could just sit with my fan and look at my phone.,.

Bridge club today but I’ve decided not to go, with the traffic how it is. My friends who usually pick me up are away.,

I’ll do a mini shop before the heat hits, and walk little pooch.

I must phone the garage again, as Dh ‘organised’ a date to fix the car but he wasn’t clear whether they will pick it up.,
I do miss him taking charge of things.🥹.

GM keep busy (as you do). 💐.
Marydoll enjoy your day.

Take care all. All things will pass! Hopefully this bloomin heat! 🥵. Roll on Autumn 🍂

EkwaNimitee Tue 28-Jul-26 08:07:47

Good morning Mick and everyone from Carlisle where it has been raining, just a shower though.
Yesterday was a housework morning followed by a walk in the park after lunch. It was fairly quiet. I spotted that the cafe was open so must make an effort to patronise it sometime, a little contribution to keeping it going. The second swan family has definitely disappeared so have probably been officially removed for their own good.
Later, I finally finished my book which will join the charity shop pile...a good read but it won't be read again, I have enough to keep me going for a long while.

Today, bathroom and kitchen clean ups in the morning, admin and reading in the afternoon.
You're right, grandMattie, nothing doing as regards social activities at this time of year, not for adults anyway. I don't want a whirl of engagements but something would be good. I don't want to be off on holidays though, I leave that to those who have no choice as to timings plus everywhere is too crowded for me.

Wishing you all a good day!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 28-Jul-26 08:08:32

Had to laugh the other day Sar53 discussing Moana with L’il Miss (9). I pronounced it ‘Mo-anna’ and she giggled.

“It’s ‘Mo-arna’ grandma!” Who knew? 🤷‍♀️

Good morning everyone from another bright and sunny 🌞Northampton day.
It is set to reach 29°C this afternoon, so, although I would like the company, I shall not be joining my walking group as it is much too hot for me to be walking.

Took yesterday at a slow pace, wielding a damp duster in the sitting room and re-arranging the placement of various items. Today I must do the same thing in the hall and dining-room, and also vacuum the sitting-room furniture.
After a shower and lunch I then managed to read the day's newspaper and also catch with Sunday's.

I realised I wanted a new book to read but didn't particularly want to read any on my shelves. So I ordered a very well thought of translation of The Odyssey from Waterstone's and will pick it up at the branch at Rushden Lakes on Thursday, as I am planning a shopping trip that day. I also have vouchers to spend in M&S!

So, another quiet day in, hoping to get my planned tasks done as well as hanging out the washing.

Had ham egg and chips for dinner last night and may.make a ham and pea soup for tonight with the leftover gammon as well as ham sandwich for lunch.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 28-Jul-26 08:11:02

Oh no Gingster please don’t say “roll on autumn”!
I’ll have to beetle back to Málaga 😂

GrannyGravy13 Tue 28-Jul-26 08:18:10

Gingster not only have we got major road works, your High Street is closing for three weeks from this week, according to the same Council information leaflet 🙀

I am dreading coming over your side to the hairdressers on Thursday.

Gingster Tue 28-Jul-26 08:31:26

GG. I know our high street is having road works but didn’t know it would be closed for 3 weeks! Oh my!
We’ll be housebound!

Jaxjacky Tue 28-Jul-26 08:31:39

Morning, cloudy and 20 in S Hants. Hospital visit yesterday concluded I have tendon inflammation, bursitis, in my hip, an ultrasound guided cortisone injection will be required.
I’m pleased they found something and the actual bones are fine.
Must book MrJ’s car in for an oil change, ring a friend and see when the gardener is coming - she’ll be removing dead stuff.
Chicken curry for dinner.
🦩🦩

Gingster Tue 28-Jul-26 08:33:41

Sorry FGT but I do love Autumn!

Litterpicker Tue 28-Jul-26 08:36:49

Good morning from currently cloudy West Sussex by the sea.

DH left early to water the allotment veg. I should get going with some cleaning. It should be cooler today but the forecast shows high humidity.

DD3 and family are heading to Scotland today to visit DD2 and family. They are going by train so I hope youngest DGD can cope with the journey. Marydoll, your term for Babydoll, ‘the Duracell Bunny’ would fit her very well 😂.

Wishing the best possible day to all.

Marydoll Tue 28-Jul-26 08:44:27

Litterpicker, after Babydoll's visit on Sunday, I could havedone with some of her batteries, I'm sure she would not have missed them. I was exhausted and my computer room a war zone!

I hope your family have a lovely time.
I send my regards to your lovely husband.

glammagran Tue 28-Jul-26 08:51:10

Good morning from an overcast Wiltshire. I believe it’s going to be hotter than yesterday later.

We have the GCs every Monday throughout the holidays apart from the Bank Holiday at the end of August. Yesterday went well on the whole. We took them to the local park where some slightly older boys were happy to let DGS2 join in their game of football. DGD1 was happy doing turnovers on some bars. It was too hot to stay for long.

DH will go and collect some shorts I ordered on his behalf from Next later.

Have a good day everyone.
