Don`t give up if you sew, if the neck feels tight at the front, it is more than likely that the shoulder needs to come forward and many of us developed a high rounded back. I am showing the two alterations I make, which results in tops and dresses fitting well on the neck area. +1/4" at the neck and +1/2" at the back with a pivot at the armcye (arm seam}. I cut the front shoulder forward by a 1/4" ie take it off at the armcye stitching line, so it evens out

Good morning from Durham. Cool, cloudy and breezy again here. I’ve had a poor night with acid reflux and I’m not in any hurry to do much. I am, however, fired up to tackle my loft. I’ll get a few more items down myself today, but need DD1 and her DH to manhandle the big stuff, so they’re ‘booked’ for next weekend. . I need a bit of Tesco shopping later, but really feel I need a quiet day.

My sewing skills are very limited too so I’d never be able to make my own dress.

Today we are visiting my uncle today who is going to be discharged from hospital this morning. They can’t find anything wrong with him after two weeks and lots of tests and scans. They’ve agreed he’s on a steady decline. So he’ll go back to his assisted living with extra social care to support his carers. I need to buy him shopping that complies with a level 6 soft and bite sized diet. He will need to be fed now as his swallowing is compromised. It’s just a matter of time now it’s up to him.

And Gingster I feel for your once very sporty and active husband so much. His life has been upended. Yours impacted too of course. You are so thoughtful of others. And you manage to stay upbeat and still ‘Keep Cslm and Carry On’. I really do admire your attitude to all that life has thrown at you. Selling your cottage by the sea was a body blow yet you accepted the need with good grace.
I suppose what cannot be changed has to be accepted and endured but you are an inspiration. x

Good morning from Stockport, it seems cooler but I don’t know if it is sunny as I haven’t looked out yet.
My GD and her partner departed for their new home last evening, I am happy for them but a little sad for myself, I shall miss her.
I too like Roman clothes although a few have been sent back as their sizing can be variable.
My friend was wearing a beautiful floral patterned dress from them when we went out last week, it was so pretty and fitted really well.

Good morning and it’s going to be another warm one. I’ve enjoyed the few cooler mornings and evenings this last week.

I met my friend for lunch yesterday which turned into quite a long one and I arrived back home at teatime. She gave me a bag full of birthday presents - all very lovely. Good job I had my trusty trolly to carry them home.

Today I’ve already had two offers of a lift to our usual country pub. Friends are so kind but I’m not sure we’ll go. Dh won’t be keen and I waver between ‘encouraging’ him and leaving him in peace. He’s not happy when we’re there and brings the jolly-ness down a bit. I might go on my own, we’ll see!

I must do some housework this morning. Things are looking dusty and neglected. My energy levels in this heat are minimal and I find it easy to say ‘manyana’. Roll on Autumn with cool refreshing air to revive us.🙏.

God morning all from Glasgow, where it is 19°C , with cloudy skies.

What talented seamstresses we have here, the dress and top are lovely.
Although, nowhere in that league, I did manage to sort the singed surplice. I left in the sacristy, sparkling white and starched, because my friend will need it for today.
Pinned to it, is an embroidered label, which says: Handmade with love by Marydoll.
I used to do a lot of knitting and attached these labels to the garments

I got some shocking news last night from my close friend of over forty years, who lives across the road
She and her DH, who were due home yesterday, are still in Majorica. Her husband is in hospital, but they have no idea, what is wrong with him..
She is all alone there and doesn't, speak Spanish. Her husband always takes charge of everything, heaven knows how she will get on.
I am worried sick.

I wasn't well enough to do much yesterday, therefore some catching up is necessary.
DH was extremely difficult , his behaviour was quite erratic.
His bad mood was compounded by the arrival of his colonoscopy prep kit.
Eventually, I told him to man up., reminding him that I had one six months ago and just got on with it!
Unfortunately, he had a very unpleasant colonoscopy, experience when the children were small and has never forgotten it.
I explained that medicine has moved on, blood letting and leeches are no longer part of medical procedures.
As you may have guessed, DH is an awful patient and I am gradually losing patience, with this patient.😉
It is blooming hard work!

I am off to look up that dress, Latedecember.

Good morning from a bright Suffolk where sun is forecast later. Although I was planning to stay at home until the Latitude festival goers have arrived today,a friend has suggested we meet up for coffee this morning using a route she assures me is not closed off….we’ll see!

I don’t think we are forecast any real chance of rain this weekend but it is much needed and I fear a hosepipe ban must be on its way.

DGD3 was 16 yesterday and is excited she can now get a summer job which is all lined up at the restaurant where her big sister works during university vacations. Big sister is a calm mature person unlike DGD3 who loves a bit of drama so we hope the employer isn’t expecting DGD1’s double!

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a dry bright start to the day
Good news that your DD can now get driving again glammagran, pleased for her and such a relief I expect.
Yesterday was really enjoyable with the DGC, they got on well together and we played lots of board games with surprisingly little screen time. Their dad picked them up mid afternoon and was quite friendly and chatty. Today I’m back to the gym, my usual routine of the gym, the riverside walk into town and the 4.30 bus home. I’ll stop for a coffee somewhere along the way.
Enjoy the busy family visit lulu! Lovely that they’re coming to stay 😀

Here’s the dress I bought from Roman the other day. Like GG13 I cannot sew. I get nervous threading a needle to sew a button on and it knows as even doing that I manage to put knots in the cotton whilst doing the task! I’m rubbish.

I do like dresses with a tiny dip at the back hem. It looks more flattering I think.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, blue sky and sunshine this morning. I wonder if it will stay sunny, we’ve had a couple of cloudy days recently.

grandmattie that’s a lovely dress, I’ve always liked that style.

The gardener came again yesterday and attacked the back garden.it’s looking better, hoping he’ll be able to finish it next week. The garden waste bin is so full I can’t move it, and there’s a big builder’s bag also fairly full of dried out and dead weeds and other bits of plants that he’s pulled out. Not sure what will have survived the onslaught! I’ll go to the garden centre this morning to see what’s available to fill the space he’s cleared.

I felt quite ill yesterday, I’d had very little sleep and have a cold. I had a better night last night and so feel a bit brighter this morning.
DD2 and family will be home from Italy later this evening, I hope to see her over the weekend to hear about their holiday.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. It might become one degree cooler than yesterday!

OH wasn’t feeling well yesterday so he cancelled the U3A drinks do we were supposed to be going to.

I will go to the final Arts Society lecture of the season on my own this morning. I will have breakfast first in one of the town’s cafes. Parking is so difficult so it will be an early start.

All I did of any significance yesterday was make a cake - a new recipe - raspberry and almond. I also started reading Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte. The theme for this month’s book group is a classic we have never read.

So many talented seamstresses today! I can I can knit pretty well and can make curtains, but dresses!

Good morning from a bright W Kent. Busy day today as DD1, SIL and two large GSs arrive. The boys are just here for a few days but DD is staying a while. We live quiet lives now so no idea how we shall cope with it all.

Yesterday I did a top up shop and visited the butchers. In the afternoon, my friend and neighbour came round for a catch up and then we got an impromptu invitation from another neighbour for drinks in the garden. We had a lovely evening and a fair bit of sangria was drunk.

Good morning from Wiltshire with more cloud this morning it with no rain forecast. We sat out last night as it was so nice and saw bees struggling to find pollen. It’s too hot for them during the day. I’ve seen hardly any butterflies this year. The garden looks very tired and grass has turned brown.

DD2 came round for lunch with the kids. DGS2 was not on good form. He never is if his mum is there. DGD3 said “When Gramps tells him off he listens but never to Mum or Dad”. We went to the local park for football and bat and ball games which was much better.

DD2 got her MRI result. A hemiplegic migraine seems to have been the cause of her temporary paralysis down one side of her body but they couldn’t rule out a TIA because several weeks passed between the episode and her MRI. She can now drive again.

Collection to make from Next today and some bits and bobs from M&S food hall. Will have a BBQ later I think. 🍷will be involved, though probably white this time as we will have chicken.

DGS didn’t want to go home yesterday after his day with us. I think although he loves his big brother , he also enjoys having all the attention on himself. Really enjoyed choir last night. We had fun warming up by singing old advert jingles. Then some of our well known songs an a new one which I think might eventually be one of my favourites.
DH is off to golf and apart from putting on a wash and a nail appointment I have a free day. I intend to take my paints out in the shady part of the garden and indulge myself.

Yesterday we had a jaunt into Bury where a found a mat to place on the hard floor tiles at the bottom of the stairs.

I think it was FriedGreenTomatoes who mentioned a dress from Roman the other day. I like Roman clothes; I've got items I've had for years. I spotted a cotton dress I liked, tried it on and bought it.
I've rediscovered dresses over the last couple of years after decades of wearing separates.
Mum always told me I don't have the figure for dresses and separates hid my flaws better, but at 62 I'm rebelling. 🤣
Mind you, as I was walking back to the car, I did think that GrandMattie or Karma would have run a similar item up in an afternoon from their fabric stash but I don't have their skills.

I looked up Sashiko embroidery, RosesandLilac. I could be very tempted to give it a try.

DH is working from home today so I think I'll take the little chap to the library this morning. There's a cafe attached so we may have a cake too.
