Could you live on a cruise ship?

Could the government rent some older ones to expand the prison estate?

No thanks. Cruise ships always strike me as a bit of a Petri dish for bugs. One person goes down with something and it spreads like wildfire.

I like the A frame houses, the yurts, and the cob ones.
Basically, I'm just a nosy mare.

Not for me. I don't think I would enjoy it one bit.

I'd find it all too claustrophobic. I need to get away from people occasionally, just to recharge my batteries.
There are the benefits of no cleaning or cooking but I can't think of many more. I have been on cruises and after 2 weeks I have had enough of the ship, the food, the routines and entertainment etc.

i wouldn't mind living on a narrow boat

Certainly not! I do like cruising but only for a couple of weeks…..our longest was 20 days. Admittedly, the ships drop anchor at some amazing places but I like to feel the grass under my feet and sit under a tree in the park when I want to, not when predicted by a cruise operator.

I reckon I could.
It wouldn't appeal to me as a holiday choice, but if I could just treat the ship as my home, it'd be quite nice.

I can imagine some ultra rich who are used to servants attending to your every whim enjoying living on a cruise

Its like having a mobile holiday home, you buy or lease the cabin, use it as you wish rent it out when you aren't using it. Cost are about £5000 a month and upwards for a couple, for a spacious outside cabin more likely £10,000 plus, like having a park home, you probably won't see much value back at the end of the lease.

Those with a few million to spare might enjoy the lifestyle.

I can't imagine anything worse. I have never been on a cruise, but like others I know it would not be for me. I like to be in charge of my own holiday, not herded around in tour groups. I'll make my own way there, get there when I want, leave when I want, see what I want etc. I know you don't have to go on the trips, but to me you would see so much more by flying and hiring a car. I have been on a coach trip, which turned out to be mine and my husband's idea of hell, we moved to a different hotel because the one included in the trip was awful, the food was worse than I could have imagined so we ate out and don't get get me started on the "turn" on an evening, I didn't know that that really happened and people actually watched it. We saw what we wanted to in two days, so hired a car and drove home 3 days early. What a waste of money. Never again.

I just feel though that there are a lot of misconceptions around cruises.

Of course not everyone would like them - we are all different, and thank goodness we are!

I don't have to go caving to know I wouldn't like it. I don't have to do a bungee jump to know I wouldn't like it. I'm all for trying new things, but there are certain things a person knows are just not for them, and for me, a cruise is one of those things.

Outbreaks of highly contagious diseases seem to be more common on cruise ships now. My sister and BiL went on a 10 day Norwegian fjord one recently which was affected - sister was confined to cabin for 3 days, and it was their only holiday for quite a while, and very likely the last they’ll be able to take together, since BiL is not at all well.

Like it for a week or so but no not the real world for me.

I've never been on a cruise but I came by ship to England from NZ when I was 10.
6 weeks on board stopping off for a few days in Australia, S Africa and the Canaries.
Despite the other children, the swimming pool and deck games, it was mostly rather boring.

Those of you who say an emphatic no, have you ever been on a cruise? Of all types of holidays, cruises I think have to be experienced before we can say with any certainty whether we would enjoy it or not.

Even though we have been on quite a number of cruises over the years, and have thoroughly enjoyed every one, living on one would be a no from me too.

Even a world cruise which typically lasts three months would be far too long.

I know some people will disagree with me as they have already been mentioned but the fact that there are no dogs on cruises is a big plus factor for me!
We can actually eat our meals in the restaurants on board without some dog slobbering nearby.
How many places ashore these days are truly dog free!

Even a two week holiday would be too long for me on a cruise ship but to live on one would be a nightmare.
