Good morning Micheal and all GN's from an already warm and sunny North Yorkshire. I am gradually getting back to more normal waking times, and need to get out for some necessary shopping as soon as I can, as want to be back and out of the sun asap.

Yesterday felt a little better but rather washed out and anything I tried to do took ages as I creaked around. I had said I might try to g o to the meeting, but it was far too hot to go and so I stayed at home, with curtains drawn etc, and taking my own advice, drinking cooled water and using cold wet flannel to cool face and neck etc.

The cleaners came early, and said that mine was the coolest place they had been to. I was glad that they came as things looked worse than usual, between feeling ill and not being able to pick anything up, so they sorted and hoovered and checked stuff in bottom cupboards etc. They were not looking forward to their next job as the house is very warm and the lady never shuts the curtains. I gave them some bottles of very cold water to take with them.

So one thing I found on the tv was Canal Diary with Rob Cummins. He was up on the northern canals. Before we went sailing we used to canal and I have done many canals , but realized that that was 50 years ago. Could it be so long ago? So I have been right up to the top of the Llangollen canal and down the trent and Mersey and the Leeds Liverpool and down the Ouse to York. York even then was a very busy place and so to arrive by boat and be able to moor up near Lendl bridge was the easiest way into the city. Lots of memories , good and bad of cruising around, but very peaceful and calming. You went through the middle of towns and then up on aqueducts where sometimes people had no idea there was a canal going across above them. Anyone else done any canaling around?

Today is my birthday but I have no plans to go anywhere or meet anyone with the weather as it is, but waiting for a cooler day to get together . Amazingly I actually received some cards yesterday, which is a miracle, as the post has been appalling taking days more than they should and arriving in batches , which looks as though they are not doing daily rounds. That makes me feel ancient, as I remember NOT sending cards too early as you knew when they would be delivering them.!

Well looking out, there is a little breeze so need to make the most of it and get the yellow peril out and brave the town, so I will come back to read more later. Have the best day you can and hope you can keep cool

Good morning from Suffolk which is as sunny as the previous few days. I have a hair appt late morning and library books to return and that’s all I intend to do today.

My birthday celebrations continue with a visit to Covent Garden for a matinee of ‘La Boheme’. DH is very worried about the heat tomorrow in London, not a consideration when the tickets were booked. We are going by train and will get taxis to and from the ROH avoiding the underground.

We haven’t been to the ROH for a performance for a few years and I think this may be our last, so going to my favourite opera is a special treat.

Your Consultant seems to have taken great careR&L in explaining the procedure and aftercare for your op and reassuring for you to have confidence in her.

Hope those suffering in the heat find today less of a trial than yesterday and others who are unwell have a better day.

Happy birthday Madeleine 🎂🎉.
We watch all the canal boat diaries with Robbie Cummings nice easy watching, there is also another programme on 4 about canal life called narrow escapes.

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle. It was a lovely cool 15°C when I got up so I opened all windows and the french doors for a while but now it is warming up rapidly, we are forecast 30°C.
Yesterday I did the ironing whilst it was still relatively cool and then cleaned the bathroom, that was it for the rest of the day, just reading after that.

Today will be a day of little doings, still feeling a bit wambly which I rather think is due to weaning of the steroids. Unfortunately I have a hospital appointment this afternoon to discuss the possibility of infusions for the osteopenia. It's right at the height of visiting time so parking will be more difficult than usual. I've thought of going on the bus which takes me right there but involves walking to the stop then half an hour on a non-air conditioned bus...as opposed to 10 minutes in an air-conditioned car and the possibility of not getting a car space in time. Can't decide!

Thoughts to all of you suffering the worse heat down south, my DS1 is having a miserable time too with lots of windows facing south.

Good morning everybody from Málaga where 37°C is our forecast. I’ve decided to take myself down to the beach today. A nice change of routine.

I shall eat my main meal at the Metro bar on the marina too as Spain play ⚽️ tonight and I haven’t booked a table at Juan’s and don’t intend going there!

I always walk down the hill to the beach well, two slopes down, one either side of the busy dual carriageway coast road the N-340. It takes me 15 minutes, quite doable as I don’t carry a chair just my beach bag and pay for a sunbed and straw hat parasol once on the beach. Good value at €9 for the day I think and very comfortable on the big fat mattresses! I always get a taxi back up though! That incline on a hot day gets to me now and at just €5 for the taxi it’s well worth the air con alone!

Best wishes to anyone struggling x mentally or physically. Life can be tough at times. x

Good morning all.
Happy birthday Madelaine.
Loved our visit to Cadgwith yesterday. Not much there but such a pretty place. I love to sit up on the ‘Todden’ and watch the world go by. We have been so lucky with the weather, it’s been very warm but we haven’t had the humidity. Not looking forward to that then we get home on Sunday.
Not any particular plans today , maybe a wander to the beach which is a nice 15 minute walk through the trees to enjoy an icecream.
This evening the four of us are meeting friends for dinner as they begin a holiday just along the road from us.
Wishing everyone a good day and thinking of those with illness and troubles.

Gingster Fri 10-Jul-26 08:31:30

Good morning all and I won’t mention the weather 🥱🤐.

Today is our 55th wedding anniversary.Emerald 💚.
I’ve suggested to Dh that we go early to our usual pub and have lunch. (They do delicious food ) and then meet up with our Friday pals for drinks., He’s not keen! I won’t push it as it won’t be enjoyable if he isn’t comfortable., We’ll see.

We have another chap coming to give a quote for the tiled conservatory roof. We really were impressed with yesterday’s rep and will probably go with his company . They won’t be able to do it til September or October though ☹️.

Sar enjoy your trip. It sounds lovely.
Marydoll sorry to hear you feel so ‘rough’. 💐
You too, Usedtobeblonde.💐

Glad you’ve got a plan and timescale RandL. Perhaps your Dd will rally round.

Take care all 🌺

Gingster Fri 10-Jul-26 08:35:56

Happy birthday Madeleine.
Good idea to put your celebrations on hold. 💐

cornergran Fri 10-Jul-26 08:38:00

Happy birthday madeleine. 🎂🎈🎂. Sensible to wait for cooler weather to meet friends.

We also enjoyed canal boat diaries and have begun narrow escapes on catchup. We lived by the Grand Union for several years, got to know boaters on permanent moorings, then pondered swapping a house for a narrowboat, deciding against. I sometimes wonder how life would have been if we had gone with that thought.

GrannySomerset Fri 10-Jul-26 08:39:20

Happy birthday, Madeleine, great to see you posting again. Am flattened by the heatwave and will go to the village shortly and then relapse in front of the tennis. Need to get something to take as my contribution to a gathering this evening and it’s too hot to actually cook. Hope I feel more enthusiastic about going out later.

If I am struggling with the heat I think how much worse it is for all those dealing with illness and anxiety and hope the day provides some cheer for Marydoll and all those unwell. Not sure I will survive another hot week!

Jaxjacky Fri 10-Jul-26 08:42:10

Good Morning from a pleasant Co Armagh , there’s a hazy sun at the moment
Madeleine happy birthday wishes , I’m a fan of both Canal programs . There is a volunteer group trying to get the canal here navigatable
Yesterday I couldn’t bear cold water on my skin , I had to use a facecloth and tepid water to cool down
Haircut today , I wonder will she agree to not blow dry my less than lovely tresses
GrandMatie I’m well acquainted with the proverbial egg shells !
MD I hope the antibiotics help and the itch stops , I suppose calamine cream has already been tried
Take care in the heat all and hope for a wee bit of a breeze

Grandmabatty Fri 10-Jul-26 08:49:43

Gingster happy anniversary to you both

harrigran Fri 10-Jul-26 08:50:13

Good morning from Anstruther where it is 18°, a comfortable temperature as my bedroom is on the ground floor.
Yesterday we managed to round everyone up by 12.30 and we drove to Kellie castle, did a tour and then spent some time in the gardens as they were so peaceful.
Last night GD1 made dinner, a very tasty lasagne.
GDs wanted to watch the football so the enormous TV was switched on, very rarely do we watch TV on holiday.
DS went to the harbour front and photographed the golden hour.
* Marydoll* when I looked out of the window Yesterday I couldn't see the Isle of May, thought I was having a Brigadoon moment.
No plans yet for today, the girls are thinking about swimming in the tidal pool, not an option for me.
Happy birthday Madeleine.
Hope you and your DH have a better day Marydoll.

dragonfly46 Fri 10-Jul-26 08:50:20

Good morning from sunny Leicestershire.

I am still in agony with my trapped nerve but the GP has ordered an MRI.

We got the dreaded phone call yesterday from DH’s consultant. They did find something small on his liver and he is having a PET scan on Tuesday. The consultant seems to think they can zap it with microwaves.
We just have to wait and see.

So sorry to darken the mood.
