So bored!

When it’s hot I can’t go out apart from very early dog walks. I have no transport. I sit indoors, too hot to do anything useful like housework or gardening. I know it’s not good for anyone to be sitting most of the day and it’s so boring. I’ve done puzzles, read a book, done embroidery, had a nap. I need to buy several birthday presents but won’t be able to go shopping until the temperature is back to normal.
How do others fill these long heat wave days?

I sit outside on the sun lounger in the shade with a good book and a fan enjoying the weather while it lasts 😀

I've watched quite a bit of Wimbledon this year with my fan beside me. I just do small bits at a time then flop when I run out of energy. In the evenings from around 7.30pm I sit in the garden with a book. Then water it!

I get up at 4am when it’s cool enough to prepare that evening’s meal and do other light tasks. I also open all the windows and external doors until 7am then close them and all curtains. It’s surprising how that early morning air can cool the rooms. I place all my night wear and a cold hot water bottle in the fridge, then will either do some craft work, read, cryptic crosswords, do a jigsaw or watch a film or two. If I need to shop I go to the supermarket that opens first at 6am. It does all get monotonous though, I agree.

Be grateful that you can move outdoors..some people cannot leave their homes ever because of their physical/health conditions..
This summer heat is temporary…

WelshPoppy Fri 10-Jul-26 14:10:10

I tend to carry on as normal, but maybe a bit slower and with more fluid intake.

I decided to go to the south coast on the train. Huge mistake, it's packed, no seats, separated from my travelling companion who was carrying my little dog, I'm now sat on a copy of the Big Issue, in the corridor with all the luggage and no room to stand up again because it's so crowded! How can they sell so many more tickets than seats!!!! Hopefully not more people getting on at Taunton now as there's nowhere to go...Bored!

Nothing much happens in my house during the Wimbledon fortnight.

Normal service will resume next week.

Mad Meg I think we must be twins! - and married to twins. It can be tough sometimes can’t it?

I do all the things I am too stiff and sore to do in the endless rain that seems to fill three seasons of the year these days.

If only the heat would continue all summer! I am so full of energy and starving when mealtimes come round.

To those who suffer in the heat: do as peope do in hot countries. Have fans on indoor, keep your curtains drawn and windows open. Get up at four or five in the morning, sleep during the hotest part of the day and stay up til well after middag. Eat your main meal between nine and eleven in the evening.

I impressed myself by doing a one hour exercise class at 10.30 this morning! Was up early to get washing on and plants watered etc. Been sat in shade knitting and listening to audio book this afternoon, but now watching a bit of Wimbledon.

Amazing how people go out for walks early morning or late evening. It's a little cooler then, lbut still far too hot for me to attempt even a sedate stroll. A few yards brings me out in a sweat. As for those I see from my balcony walking any time of the day on the sunny side of the street - I honestly don't know how they do it. I long for this horrible heatwave to be over.

I stick to my home & professional activities daily.
I utilise the coolest hours of the mornings ( 8am - 11am ) and take advanced Spanish intensive courses /

Do basic household chores however, we have our amazing cleaning lady every Friday, we both keep up chores.

Also catch up with lady friends I have not seen recently and have lunch once a week out with a lady friend or two.

Hubs and I also walk early am with our French Bulldog and then I take Edmond home.

I also enjoy the Public Library / Zara Home Shops / Catching up with our twin daughters (married) and our grandkids.

So always something in my diary to keep abreast of and busy.

I am not a "housework" person.
I do what is required and no more.
The bathroom and loos are always clean - and the kitchen sink.

Everything can wait a few days in my opinion.
I have a dishwasher and robot hoovers... these are working when I'm not!

You sound like my soulmate regarding housework. Have you read the poem. “ Dust if you must “ grin

How I envy you busy people. I don’t sweat and can’t bear the heat and have no air-conditioned car to take me places. This heat wave is worse than Covid. There wasn’t a day when I didn’t walk my dogs twice.
Must stop moaning and put up with it!

Juneandarchie1 Fri 10-Jul-26 16:03:36

I’ve used my time to sort out my wardrobe and list on Vinted.
The money is coming in small amounts while I’m sitting here sorting out comparing energy switch.
In with one hand, out with the other 🙄🤪

Not done much housework other than general clear up after making butties for lunch. Done some washing and ironing - won't get any warmer than I am. Also been decorating spare bedroom which needs a second coat over the weekend. Probably be Sunday before I get back to that as working this evening and tomorrow.
The weather being too hot isn't a issue for me - I just love the glorious weather.

If you are struggling, you are struggling. There is a big surge in people suffering from poor mental and physical ill health during this hot weather.

All I can suggest is to somehow ease into it and accept it as best you can.

It certainly seems to affect some people's ability to use the manners they were (presumably) taught.
I find it every bit as bad as covid.
