So bored!

When it’s hot I can’t go out apart from very early dog walks. I have no transport. I sit indoors, too hot to do anything useful like housework or gardening. I know it’s not good for anyone to be sitting most of the day and it’s so boring. I’ve done puzzles, read a book, done embroidery, had a nap. I need to buy several birthday presents but won’t be able to go shopping until the temperature is back to normal.
How do others fill these long heat wave days?

Mostly watched North and South, on Channel 4, bookended by watering plants early & late. Reading Clay by Melissa Harrison & picking through the fridge.

Thanks. I didn't realise it was on Ch 4; I've been looking for it on BBC iplayer. There are a few other things on there to watch, too.

Tea and a biscuit in bed first thing and read for a bit.
Had a bath.
Breakfast.
Paid credit card bill online and made an Amazon order.
Some ironing.
Deadheading flowers in the garden. Staked tomatoes bushes.
Coffee break and puzzles/crossword.
Some painting [acrylics on canvas]
Lunch.
Browsed the internet.
Some knitting and watched Wimbledon.
Dinner.
Played an online game for 30 minutes.
Went for a 40 minute walk as it was cooler.
Watched football.......

Well I don’t drive but I m not really bored I m still volunteering and popping off for a sea swim after work
Allotment tomorrow to put second sowing of peas in and give it a good water then lunch with some friends
Shopping Saturday and maybe beach in the afternoon or some gardening
I can’t just stay in it drives me mad
Aren’t there any parks or woods nearby I m sure it must be horrid to be in the middle of a city either when it’s hot or freezing cold
Certainly nothing on TV at the moment if you’re not a sports fan, which I m not ( neither am I a housework fan) I always have a jigsaw on the go

It can be boring if you don’t drive I suppose.I still do a part time job but any housework here is done early morning as there’s a cool window of opportunity between 6 and 8 a.m.
I did the bathroom then, saw to laundry and pressed a few clothes as well, then watered the pots in my yard.DP did the vacuuming and then a bit of local food shopping.
There are books to read, tv programmes and radio and podcasts and stories on BBC Sounds.Crosswords and puzzles and having a nap.
Chins up, the heatwave won’t be forever.

missed this ….

Met a friend for brunch/lunch today, petrol and cashpoint. Home to do some laundry, watched Countdown, then got stuck into a pile of admin, much shredding involved. Sat outside with a book and lapped up the sun, then at 8pm started my housework and I’m outside again with a book, lump of cheese, bag of crisps and a glass of rose 🐓 wine.

Am impressed by your activity, Jaxjacky; I have looked for a missing bank statement without success, watched some tennis, watered various pots, and done it all very slowly. Another week of this does not augur well.

Cossy

I have absolutely no energy when it’s like this. And I sweat profusely.

Me too, it’s quite ghastly isn’t it!

I sometimes think I’ll disappear into a puddle…and yet, strangely enough, my favourite thing in the world is having a sauna.

All too hot for me, I've never coped with heat (or cold).

But having a disabled DH I haven't stopped with caring duties, making room for his podiatrist, washing bedding, changing his incontinence pads and supervise his (very slow) efforts at walking (with a rollator). Oh, and nagging him to drink more water - yesterday his BP was almost dangerously low. He thinks drinking water is an old wives tale!

watermeadow online shopping rules!
Fiddled with my Tesco grocery list for delivery tomorrow, wrapped a gift and wrote a card, raided the freezer for dinner, cleaned three toilets, did hip exercises. MrJ put washing out.
This afternoon, emailed friends abroad x two lots, MrJ bought washing in then he fuelled up both cars.
I rang my dentist to move an appointment, renewed library books online, watched some tennis, did second lot of hip exercises in the cooler kitchen.
Greenhouse tomatoes and courgettes watered, MrJ cooked hog burgers, new potatoes and we had salad.
Now watching football.

And me!
Even the soles of my feet were painful yesterday.

I am not a "housework" person.
I do what is required and no more.
The bathroom and loos are always clean - and the kitchen sink.

Everything can wait a few days in my opinion.
I have a dishwasher and robot hoovers... these are working when I'm not!

That’s me, bar the robot hoover!

I'm not really a housework person either, amd it shows!!
Time to try and get it spic and span.

It’ll all need doing again next week haha x

I'm honestly surprised there's not more casualties in this heat.
I don't know why they don't play inside, in air conditioned courts.

ronib Thu 09-Jul-26 20:35:13

It was very tiring watching the tennis this afternoon….. how do the players find such energy?

In this weather (around 35 deg. here today) I do the absolute bare minimum of cleaning. This morning I sat with the fan on full, and knitted half a nurse (hand puppet for Knit for Nowt).

Later, swimming - my David Lloyd is nice and cool!

Earlier:
Bought a birthday gift online.
Organised a fencing job.
Researched trellis.
Tried to find a new swimsuit online.
Listened to part of a book on Borrowbox as I did some puzzles.
Ate...
Replaced a light bulb (involving ladders).
Drank quite a lot of tea

Just about to serve dinner.
Will be watering the garden this evening (and next door's as they are away.

Was going to go swimming.... changed my mind!

I honestly don't think I'm ever bored though...

MissAdventure Thu 09-Jul-26 20:21:56

I'm doing housework.
I can't stand to do anything in the heat.

Just the same as any other day, but slower.
