Good Morning from Durham. Flight from Malaga delayed by almost 2 hours, so I’m home, had a cuppa and wondering if it’s worth trying to have a nap.
Usual coffee with a friend beckons at 10.30, then a suitcase full of holiday clothes to launder.

Will read the thread later, but for now …

Best wishes to all. X

Ashcombe Mon 06-Jul-26 05:16:59

Good morning from Portsmouth TL. Interesting to read of your connection with Portsmouth, FriedGreenTomatoes!

Up and out soon to board the Guillaume de Normandie which departs at 8.00am. We had a good journey here yesterday taking just over four hours and enjoyed dinner at the pub attached to the hotel.

Hope you all have a good week. 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

Good morning from s somerset, sunny and hotter today

A busy day yesterday, cycling and allotment as planned and the afternoon was spent sorting my patio, re-jigging my begonias as 12 from 30 were not making progress.

I dismantled a large metal 3 tier etagere, off to the tip with that this week and I am also getting rid of 3 large troughs, all part of decluttering/downsizing to make life easier in the future

I planted more leeks and dug the holes ready for two blackberry plants, hence the blister. All in all it was a satisfying day but busy with no calm sewing

I am relaxing at home today, craft group is on but I am giving it a miss, I want to sew and do nothing in particular and to sit outside for while, to enjoy the ground sedum, it is very beautiful now, a real carpet of pastel colours

Good morning from Malta where another sunny day is forecast with a high of 33°C which will feel like 37°C.

Welcome back Georgesgran sorry you had a delay and hope you manage a nap.

I had a quiet day yesterday. After Mass I had a long FaceTime chat with my pal in Leicester. She always cheers me up.

I did strip the bed and got the sheets washed then dried on the line. Such bliss getting into fresh linen.

Watched a lot of tennis, by 9.30pm I’d had enough and went to bed where I slept a bit better. I’ve been taking magnesium so am wondering if it’s started to take effect.

No plans yet for today other than doing my thirty minutes on the cross trainer.

DD3 mentioned the beach but I’m not really in the mood so hope she’s changed her mind!

I watched the celebration of dear Soop’s life last night. Very moving indeed. She was a one-off.💔

Take care all and I hope your day goes well.☀️

Good morning everyone from south Glos, I’ve been awake for a while thanks to a wood pigeon cooing from the gutter above my open bedroom window 🙄
I finished the last bit of sorting out the back garden yesterday, I was outside just after 7am. I chopped off the Japanese anaemones that had spread into the edge alongside the pond; they were full of fat orange slugs 🤢
So, very satisfying evicting them into the woods behind us.
I potted up the tomato seedlings, topped up the last big pot that has a climbing rose in it and brushed the patio.
I spent most of the afternoon in my Shed with tiddler, very peaceful.
DS called for a long video chat yesterday evening, he’s very busy at work. Both DGCs are enjoying their sports, doing well too which is lovely to hear about. DDIL is calling me this morning for a chat.
Today I’m having coffee with a friend, I need to go to the post office on my way to her. I will send some euros to the boys for their holiday money, they’re off to Italy and Sweden, lucky things!
Not looking forward to the heatwave that’s looming this week, but I’ll be prepared!
Wishing everyone a lovely day x
🌹

Good morning from a hazy Bristol.
I had one of my “soggy” days yesterday, so wasn’t at my usual cheerful best.
The special evensong was lovely, the vicar was wearing his canon stole and vestments, very smart but probably hit too. I wasn’t in a state to stay on for fizz and canapés but came straight home.
Today, I’m going to Tesco, with/out my neighbour. She hasn’t said anything about going, so I might end up walking there.
Free afternoon; I’ll probably finish my quilt. Or I might make a fruit cake as the oven will be on to heat/sterilise jars for more marmalade.
Hope you have a good day. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩

Good morning from a very warm Black Country, probably the reason I woke so early.

MrJ will be up soon, as he wants to watch the England match on I-Player. So no News on and phone switched off. I will have to set it up for him so he doesn't catch any news as TV comes on. I know the result, but he doesn't know I know smile

Had a lovely day yesterday, contacted my friend and we walked along the canal, coffee in a cafe, then walk back along canal to the town as the Carnival was on. Had Tapas for lunch in the local Loungers Bar, and shared a Churros dessert! Home by 3 and MrJ arrived back from visiting his incapacitated DD (broken knee a few weeks ago)

Line Dancing later this morning unless is it too hot, as there is no air con, just fans.

Wishing you all the coolest day possible

Good morning Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where we will have yet another day without rain. I’m getting ready to say goodbye to my garden unless I cave in and put the hose on it. We have no ban in place here yet. Yesterday I made a large beef casserole which I will portion up for the freezer this morning, did some ironing and took down and cleaned all the bird feeders. Much as I would like to, I wont use them again until after the summer.

DGS and SiL called in the afternoon on their way up to Leeds where GS is doing a work placement connected with his Uni course, living in B&B accommodation. I had made him a batch of biscuits which were gratefully received. He’s only ‘up the road’ but I worry about him far more than I ever did about his mother who went off to live in France, living with complete strangers for six moths, as part of her university course!

No idea what the plan is today. I’ll just see how the day unfolds.

Have the best one you can, folks.

Good morning from a breezy Anglesey.

Today I need to change the bedlinen in my room ahead of my friend arriving from Canvey Island for a few days.
I'm going to sleep on the sofa bed. She'll probably say she'll be fine on the sofa bed, but I think having our room with an en suite will give her a bit of privacy and somewhere to escape.

The weather forecast for the week is pretty good but I've still suggested she brings an emergency cardi.

Woke up to a plethora of messages on one of my WhatsApp groups. Old college friends who'd watched the England match. I might try to see it on catch up.

Wishing you all the best day possible. Take care. 🌻

Good morning from our Cornwall holiday home. Good weather forecast.
We had a gentle day yesterday, a delicious lunch and then a short trip to the Helford passage. Lots more chat and laughter with our friends.
Today we plan to visit Lizard village and Mullion. We shall buy pasties for dinner this evening.
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.

Gelisa Mon 06-Jul-26 06:31:22

Good morning Mick and all from a cloudy Morecambe Bay. It’s looking dry today but won’t get above 18degrees.
CDog decided it was time to get up about half an hour ago. He’s now curled up on my knee asleep again after sniffing intently round the garden. I’m not sure who or what our visitor was. I suspect it my have had a long tail! Living next to a canal they do wander into the garden occasionally.
Tomorrow we are off to Shetland. My friend is coming with us. She plans to arrive later this evening so we can get off first thing in the morning.
We have been every year to Shetland for the last 25 years, sometimes in the camper but always staying in a traditional Croft house. Sadly most of the people we got to know are no longer with us so this may be the last year we go up for a while. We are only staying a week this year instead of our usual three. We will take my friend to some of our favourite places. I say some because our very favourite places are at the end of long walks which I am no longer fit enough to manage.
We have an air bnb en route and will sail Wednesday evening arriving Thursday morning. Before then I need to pack!
Take care.🌸

Good morning everyone from a very bright and sunny 🌞Northampton. Up early as it's yoga first thing - my first time back after my cataract op. It will be nice to see everyone again, and then go for coffee afterwards.

Spent a good three hours in the garden yesterday as it wasn't too hot. I tidied up the rampant jasmine and vine on my pergola and tied in the new shoots on my Golden Showers climbing rose; it has done very well this year. The vine has lots of bunches of grapes which will eventually turn purple and ready to eat!
I then cut back the Philadelphus, wiegela and a couple of other shrubs which have finished flowering. The cistus and forsythia I cannot cope with as they are too big so will have to get a gardener in.
I will try to cut the grass this week, but first thing in the morning before it gets too hot.

When I get back from yoga my aim is to vacuum the bedrooms and then do the staircase, as that job has been neglected lately.

An easy dinner tonight of fish, new potatoes and peas.

Wishing all a pleasant Monday.
And all the best to HelterSkelter who is having her cataract op today.

Good morning from Wiltshire.

We had a lovely weekend. Saw DD2 first for coffee. She has finally got a date for her MRI and CTA scans. I ordered the books DGD3 hasn’t got from the Isadora Moon series. DGS2 was far too busy helping his dad (at 5) to talk to us.

We then drove on to Newbury and met up with DS and his gorgeous dog Luna who was so pleased to see us in a café garden in Yattendon where we had lunch. We dropped off DGD2’s 13th birthday presents for later this week. DGS1 was competing in a swimming meet in Aldershot so his mum took him this time and DGD2 was with her theatre group preparing for a show in Newbury.

Then on to DD1. DGD1 was at the Henley Regatta so we didn’t see her till she got home around 11pm. They are big tennis fans so we watched Wimbledon for a while. They usually go but not this year. We went out to the fab Indian restaurant in Twyford.
Yesterday was DD1’s birthday. There were numerous helicopters flying overhead enroute from Farnborough airport to Silverstone. I guess people arrive there on private jets before flying on in helicopters. Apparently it was the same in the early evening too in reverse. SInL stayed up to watch England. I’ve just read who won.

Ginny your prison incarceration sounded terrific!
Enjoy your time in France Ashcombe.
Hope your back improves asap Grammeretto.

Have a great start to the week everyone.

Good morning from Sheffield

What a brilliant result for England. I don’t follow football but the menfolk in the family do. It boosts the whole country I think.

I had such a busy day yesterday. We went cycling in the morning, then hubby expressed that he would like to go out in the afternoon.
We ended up going to Cleethorpes. It was lovely to see families enjoying the beach. You can’t beat an English seaside town. We enjoyed fish and chips on the pier. We then called off at our youngest sons and jumped in his hot tub.

We got home at about 8.30. Didn’t even sit down just straight to bed to relax and read. I did sleep very well, I was shattered.

Prayer group this morning and I am working this afternoon
Take care everyone flowers

HelterSkelter1 Mon 06-Jul-26 06:59:53

Good morning from a sunny N Surrey. Cool so far.

Thank you BlueSapphire.that was so kind. Am having a mug of tea on the back step. DD2 is coming to stay with DH and I will have a cab there and back from our friendly local cab company.
Enjoy your day everyone....I will try and enjoy mine!!

Gingster Mon 06-Jul-26 07:02:01

Good morning all.

Dh was going to stay up for the match but didn’t make it. We’ll watch it on catch-up later.

Lots of tennis watching yesterday - I’ll miss it when it’s over.
I did a bit of gardening in between matches as it wasn’t too sunny.

We have our U3A meeting today with a speaker on Fishing boats. I won’t bother to go as it would mean hanging around for busses in the heat. I’d make the effort but …..

Dgd1 messaged me last night saying her little cat(rescued from the streets and is her baby), had been unwell, cost a fortune at the vet and she’ll have to miss her holiday that she was due to go on today.

She works so hard (mental health nurse) and never asks for anything, so I’ve pinged her over some money to try to help out.

I’ll get some quotes today to have a new roof put in the conservatory . Something to keep out the sun and leaks. Don’t know why haven’t thought of it before. 🤯.

Dd and DGD had a lovely time at the seaside cottage and of course were sad to leave.

Safe journey Ash and Dh.
Enjoy your holiday Gelisa sounds idyllic.

Send down some rain, grans in the north. We’re getting desperate her in the south east.

Take care all 🌺

brook2704 Mon 06-Jul-26 07:03:42

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s grey and raining, might brighten up later who knows 🤷‍♀️
Pleased you’re home safely georgesgran and safe travels to Ash and everyone on the move today
It’s exactly the same in our house NannyJan, I know the score but DH doesn’t and is watching the match on tenterhooks!
Just the usual housework this morning followed by a volunteering session this afternoon and then out line dancing this evening. All enjoyable and keeps me busy
It’ll be to get back to your yoga BlueSapphire and coffee with your pals after
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

monk08 Mon 06-Jul-26 07:05:38

Good morning all from a sunny Black country.
NannyJan it's the same in this household I know the score DH is going to watch it on BBC2 at 7, have had to move his phone.
Have ironing to do before it gets to hot and we are going for a carvery later with yet another of our vouchers.
Safe travels Ashcombe and anybody else on the move, best wishes to anyone celebrating and virtual hugs where needed.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans and stay cool 😎.

Grammaretto Mon 06-Jul-26 07:11:45

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's 14° .
Despite my back pain, yesterday was unexpectedly a good day.😊

Quaker meeting followed by being taken to visit some beautiful open gardens. The French volunteers had been tackling my jungle and were happy to drive into the Border hills. It rained gently throughout. 🌧️

I cooked the dinner which went down well.
Spiced rice with cashew nuts.

A roofer is due this morning. I hope he can find and cure the leak. 🤞

Another chiropractor appointment today. Not sure these are making a difference. I have a physio appt on Friday.

Tonight my cousin is due from Boston. She likes to stay in a nearby Airbnb but I hope she'll join us often.

I have to eat my words re the football! Well done England. My football crazy DGD will be thrilled.

Safe journey Ashcombe.
Thinking of all who are unwell or sad.
I hope everyone has some joy today.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 06-Jul-26 07:14:01

Good morning I think it’s going to be another glorious warm summers day 🌞

I am trying to decide whether or not to go to the gym, asthma still a bit iffy but my body is telling me it needs to stretch and move.

I know I will have happy, but very tired little GS’s this morning ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Safe journeys to those who are travelling 🙋‍♀️

Astitchintime Mon 06-Jul-26 07:15:45

Good morning from the NE Mids. Bright and sunny this morning with a gentle breeze. Hope to get some crafting underway today after the usual tidying up etc.
Have a good day one and all!

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 06-Jul-26 07:16:36

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. A hot day is promised.

I didn’t stay up for the football (OH did) but I checked the result when I went to the loo around 4 am. Will the King contact the Head of FIFA and beg him to reinstate our player who was sent off? Such a cheek of trump - OH saw the American player’s foul and said it was a blatant and dreadful foul.

Our younger son went back to London yesterday. He is always good company. He had bought us three beautiful golden birds as a belated Golden Wedding present. He also cooked us dinner.

Our cleaner should be here this morning. OH has an appointment. I will pop into Waitrose after lunch. The normal food shop but I’ve also got a pair of curtains to collect. OH is finding it difficult to sleep so I’ve ordered a pair of curtains with black out lining. Although I’ve got a new sewing machine I don’t really want to make curtains again!

Have a good day and keep hydrated! There’s another heatwave due for a lot of us.

Gagagran Mon 06-Jul-26 07:22:41

Good Morning everyone from a sunny, central south coast. Another warm one in store.

Had a long video call from DD yesterday and heard all about her trip to Melbourne then Hong Kong. She said she doesn't suffer from jet lag by just keeping to her regular hours. She is off to Zagreb for the next conference - not sure when.

Two of my friends from my former choir are coming to see me tomorrow morning and I am looking forward to that. I shall miss the contact with the choir members but with these two especially. They have both said they want to carry on our friendship outside choir so we will see how that goes. I have never been someone with a pressing need for friends being a trainee hermit!

Had a surprise knock at the door about 6pm yesterday and it was our new neighbour asking if we had had dinner yet. I said not and he asked if we liked fish. Oh yes, said I so so he proffered two packs of fried cod from the chippy which they had oversupplied for them and he would be delighted if we could eat them! They are now in the fridge awaiting our lunch today. We seem to have fallen really lucky with this very kind young couple moving in next door. I didn't tell him that we eat dinner at lunchtime and tea at teatime and I was making DH his sandwich tea at the time! It would have felt churlish to do so.

Heard from my niece yesterday in the Isle of Man but still no closure yet. It can't be long. We went through this with my Dad and he hung on for a week after we were told time was almost up as he had a very strong heart. It is exhausting for my poor niece and I am supporting her as much as I can from a distance.

Wishing safe travels for everyone on the move and some relief today for all with struggles and worries of any kind.

luluaugust Mon 06-Jul-26 07:29:47

Good morning from a bright and breezy W Kent. Cleaner this morning and then a trip to get some photos specially printed. Enjoyed plenty of tennis yesterday.
Best wishes
