Thunderstorms, anyone?

Anyone had thunderstorms yet? We had an absolutely epic one around 3am this morning. It was right overhead - the thunder was deafening and the lightning was awesome. I actually thought there had been a gas explosion or something as it was so loud. We don't often get storms like that in this neck of the woods.
The rain which followed was biblical - although fortunately didn't last long. Apparently a house just a couple of miles away was hit by the lightning - saw pics on a local residents' forum of the fire.

Nothing where I am in mid-Scotland, although surrounding areas seem to have been hit. I’m dreading any storm, I’m still scared of thunder though I’m in my 70’s! I can’t explain it, a rumble of thunder just causes a visceral fear in me and I want to run away and hide. 🫣

Here in South West France we had one at about 10pm last night European time. Crashing thunder; not too much lightening; rain like stair rods. Didn't last very long but cooled everything off. We are down 5 degrees to 33-34 today. Feels like blessed relief. More storms predicted this weekend.

In Somerset the lightning started around 10pm, joined by thunder at 11pm, soon after that torrential rain The thunder and lightning seemed to rumble on for a couple of hours at least.
This morning it was as if we hadn’t had the storm.

We had a storm mid-afternoon, heavy rain and thunder. Luckily I was in town so wasn’t on my own with my terror! 👀 Sun is out now.

Epic storm here in n Yorkshire at 4.30 pm. Huge hailstones and tremendous deluge. Cooled everything down but sun out again and it’s heating up nicely.

Enormous clap of thunder at 1am this morning near Bath. Terrified the dog. There was further lightening and thunder in the distance but it soon faded away. We had a little rain which was good. Nothing like the epic storm earlier in the week.

We had spectacular thunder and lightning in the small hiurs but no rain and little reduction in temperature. We have at least another day of heat and it can’t end soon enough.

I am in County Durham and it has come back here as well. It started around 7 then eased but has returned. It has taken me weeks to get a hair appointment so if I am struck by lightening on the way so be it.

at least it would make your hair curl !

we are in Oxfordshire, in stifling heat, headaches,
33deg in our bedroom, blinds and curtains closed
all day, expecting and welcoming a storm, hopefully
clearing the air as we feel we cannot breathe at the moment

yes we had a belter last night...I woke at 1.45 the sky was flashing ,I've never seen it like that before, it was like a second or 2 between the sheets of lightning, then came the thunder, louder that I've ever heard it I thought the roof had exploded, about 7am the rain started, still a bit muggy.

We'd like one please.

I love a good storm, hoping we might have one here for the sale of the lawn!

Our lawn and garden could use a nice rain storm.

Rain also fills water storage tanks, for future watering.

Lots of thunder today in Darlington. We had it this morning, then it cleared with a very nice sunshine for hours. By 3pm thunder came back, loads of it! At my end of town, it wouldn't stop rumbling! It lasted for ages.

Sorry I forgot to add, listening to thunder inspired me to go and make myself a mug of tea.!

I came out of John Lewis to eerie weather - cold, windy and weirdly dark. A huge flash of lightning and claps of thunder right overhead in Gosforth (Newcastle) at about 5pm, followed by more and torrential rain. I felt sorry for those caught in it at The Hoppings and at Gosforth Park Racecourse - it’s Northumberland Plate weekend.
However, like magic, completely gone, back to hot and sunny, blue sky and bone dry.

I’m staying in Leith , I’m told there was a thunderstorm last night , I slept through , one benefit of deafness !

Horrendous thunderstorms here at 02.39 and approximately 15.00 hrs. The afternoon one caused my garage to flood as the drains couldn’t cope with the amount of rain of epic proportions. Thankfully I’ve got old doormats at entrance which soaked up most of it. I managed to video and photograph it today. Never experienced this before. I’m in Central Scotland.

I wish - the weather needs to break

We had massive thunderstorms last night, here in S W Wales. Terrific rolling thunder, lightning, streak after streak and a heavy downpour. Yesterday was grey and chilly first thing, but brightened up in the afternoon. The temperature has definitely dropped. Hope today will be similar.

I slept with the bedroom windows wide open and didn’t hear any storms but I woke at 6.30 and the paving slabs were all wet so we definitely had rain. It is still very hot and humid.
