I finally got dh to get it out of the loft. It’s a big one, and pretty noisy, which is why we hadn’t got it out before, but, oh the difference!
Needless to say, it’s absolutely sweltering here again today….

My old fan broke last year so brought a tower fan its 30° in my living room curtains have been shut since 5am . Its lovely and has remote control.

We have a chiller unit in the L room, fan oscillating over cold water, I could hug it!
Fan in bedroom.
35 now, blinds and windows closed in L room (west) open in kitchen/diner (east).

We went out and bought two fans on Sunday. I had one on all last night in the bedroom. Currently we cannot open any windows in the bedrooms, although we can open windows on the landing and in the bathroom. The fan makes sleeping possible.

We have one, you put water in the bottom and it’s very good, keeping our LR “liveable”

Just ordered two, as our one is very old and cumbersome.

Iam64 Thu 25-Jun-26 14:49:07

Had one delivered within twelve hours of order from the evil empire. Reviews said easy to assemble. Well it was for my daughter 🌞. Now have two going in the big kitchen. It’s got velux windows and double patio glass doors. Ill need blinds if the heat becomes frequent

Just seen a photo of massive queues outside a Lidl store today, for an air conditioning unit which was going on sale in their 'middle aisle' this morning.

We bought an air con unit last year and 2 tabletop fans to replace old small ones. Both very quiet. The air con is noisy but effective. So glad I bought them. It has made the last 3 days manageable. I will think about shutters on the kitchen window and a curtain rail above the kitchen patio doors to hang something on. Not sure what yet.

I have a tower fan, which is quiet and effective. However, the thing that has made the most difference is a ‘sail’ that throws shade onto my rear ground floor windows. My house is almost exactly east / west. I get sun on the front in the morning, a brief respite in the middle of the day while the sun is overhead and then, when it is at its hottest, it shines straight into my kitchen and living room. The sail is an awning that can be fixed in any position, usually either rectangular or triangular in shape. Mine shades my French windows and kitchen door perfectly and makes a huge difference. A cheap and adaptable way to help reduce the heat. I got mine from Amazon.

We have a good Dyson tower fan but will be researching mobile air con units and buy one as soon as possible as it’s still only June 🥵

Millie22 Thu 25-Jun-26 16:19:28

I have 3 in various locations in the house.

The best one is quite big but we put an ice block in the back and it's brilliant. It's like a small air conditioning unit.

HelterSkelter1 Thu 25-Jun-26 16:40:45

Our air con moveable unit is a Black and Decker one. Pleased witb it. Came via Amazon. Keeping our big bedroom nice and cool today where we are spending all of out time. Temp is probably 19 but outside 33 plus. We are west of London.

Need to keep the door closed. So I wouldnt use it in an open plan area.

Oreo Thu 25-Jun-26 16:42:23

Must take a look at the Black and Decker 👍🏻

BoggledMind Thu 25-Jun-26 16:49:42

We have a tower fan on at the moment and it's quite pleasant. Apparently it's 90°F outside but I haven’t been out long enough to see if that's correct.

Witzend Thu 25-Jun-26 19:00:17

Dh said he checked on Amazon for fans the other day - all the highly rated ones* were out of stock, or only for delivery e.g. 28th July.
*IIRC he’d checked Which?

Iam64 Thu 25-Jun-26 19:15:32

I ordered from Amazon Monday, they said delivery Wednesday but it arrived mid day Tuesday. No wonder we use the evil empire

We ordered from Argos late on Sunday evening. Collected 9.00am Monday morning.

We live a couple of hundred yards from Argos and just parked close to the entrance and shoved the boxes in the boot.

I have a floor-standing one in the bedroom, living room, kitchen, and home office, all whizzing around at supersonic speed for hour after hour!

I can't abide summer/sun/heat anyway, never could, but this particular wave is evil! Trying to lie on top of the duvet last night, sweating so much it was like I was swimming in it, being constantly buzzed by snotmonster flies - I absolutely hate them - they kept hitting my face and head, arms and legs, so I was forced to pull the duvet up to my chin, lie on my right side and put a pillow on the left side of my face.

I tried spraying the beasts with Raid, but for every 2 I kill, there's another 2000 to take their place! They were crawling on the bed, the pillow, and the duvet, too!

No one hasn’t mentioned what I think is a very best fan almost silent… Meaco. Bliss!

mokryna Fri 26-Jun-26 13:43:20

At midnight it was 30c inside as well as outside, first time I slept with the tower fan on. Opened the windows for cooler air this morning but everything retaines the heat so no real joy before closing everywhere. 39 yesterday, only 36 today.

sunglow12 Fri 26-Jun-26 13:45:04

I rather like my neck fan bought from Amazon

Slimswim Fri 26-Jun-26 13:47:51

We purchased a portable air conditioning unit a few weeks ago when we had the last spell of hot weather. When the weather changed after a few days I thought we had wasted our money. Now we’ve been sitting in the living room with it on and I’m pleased we bought it. Only negative thing is, it’s noisy and too heavy to carry up the stairs. Our neighbour has just had air conditioning installed, £15,000 but it will heat the house too.

georgia101 Fri 26-Jun-26 14:01:56

We bought a portable air conditioning unit from Amazon in last year's heatwave. It's a life saver! Noisy, but makes the room comfortable to live in. We have fans in other rooms but they don't reduce to temperature. We've heard it's expensive to run so only use it in extreme temperatures like these past few days, but yesterday it was on all day and evening.

izzibear Fri 26-Jun-26 14:03:14

WHAT are snotmonster flies and where do you live, TheWeirdoAgain60??
