Crying over sad songs on the radio

Just listening to Michael Ball on Radio2, and he played Lean on Me by Bill Withers. Couldn't stop the tears coming, as it's so poignant. I seem to feel a lot like this recently whenever I hear certain songs; Carole King's You've got a Friend is another one. Never used to feel like this, so must be an age thing! Also, the fact that he's pjaying lots of Father's Day dedications isn't helping! Anyone else have songs which set them off?

Sweet Thames flow softly.
Theres a version by Christy Moore (?) and Sinead O'Connor, which is lovely.
One particular line about his love leaving, and taking his sun, moon and stars with her.

Do not sing to me my Beauty, Rachmaninov
La Vergine degli Angeli, Leontyne Price from Force of Destiny, Verdi. Not a song, but would like it for my funeral.

Nick Cave, Into my Arms
In my life, Beatles
Spartacus ballet music.
Ich bin der Welt, Mahler sung by Janet Baker
So many, I could go on and on.

I’m just in the middle of drawing up my funeral plans - yes, I’d like that song too, by Stevie Wonder

In My Life, by The Beatles, resonates with me...especially because we are getting older.

MissAdventure Tue 23-Jun-26 10:41:43

Oh yes, to both of those.

The First Time Ever I saw your Face, plus Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, get me every time. I often have to leave the room.

There's a Sinaed O'Connor song, "My Darling Child" where she just croons to her baby, calling him Me little lamby, my little puppy, me little ninja.

She's usually pretty serious in her songs, so it makes it all the sweeter , with her beautiful lilting voice.

Its very sad, considering the end of her life, now.

Rarely hear this one on the radio but I always think of my own Dad talking about his father who he always referred to fondly as ‘the old man’.

Time to Say Goodbye is too much to bear right now.

During a music lesson at secondary school, the teacher played a record called Deck of Cards. I sat and listened to the words and to my embarrassment was a blubbering mess by the end.

P J Proby is still alive I’ve just Googled him.
He’s 87.
I thought he was gorgeous (when I was about 12) 😁
Texas born, he lives in the UK now apparently.

Has anyone heard the John Legend song 'All of me'?
Its the most beautiful love song, but the first line reminds me of my girl.
"What would i do without your smart mouth?" (Something like that)
I first heard it in the car with her, and down came the tears....

For me, it's "Those were the days"" and "Seasons in the Sun" that bring on the tears nowadays.
Oh, and "Puff the Magic Dragon blush

Oh gosh, I thought I was alone in being reduced to tears by Puff the Magic Dragon!
Also Seasons in the Sun and Forever Autumn 😢

I see we are not alone - Trisha99 has said the same.
I only have to think about it to well up, and i dont really know why!!
(Which could have been awkward since I introduced youngest DGS to the song earlier this year, but luckily he doesn't seem to have noticed my wet eyes.)

Stranger on the Shore Acker Bilk will always remind me of my Mom and Dad

When I played this just now, I was back in the mid sixties, living with my lovely mum & dad and little sister. It had me thinking of my mum enjoying a whisky and dry ginger in a lovely cocktail glass with a Maraschino cherry - and dad with his beer from a Watneys Party Four.
Happy Days 😊😢

I’m sure I can’t be the only one asking Alexa to play these songs?
🥰
Such wonderful choices, very emotional. x

The song "Life Is For Living" by Barclay James Harvest will forever remind me of my sister, taken way too early from us. The lyrics make me cry whenever I hear the song . . .

You and me, our life is drifting along
Watching the world as it's singing its song
High above, someone is calling to me
Life is for living and living is free

You to me, are like the sun in the sky
See how you fly you have wings of your own
You and me, our love will last without end
Ride with the wind won't you follow me home

Turn around and see the circles we spin
And we're taking our chances on where we begin
Up above, the rain is falling on me
Life is for living and living is free . . .

‘My coat of many colours that my mama made for me’by Dolly Parton.
For Dolly this, like so many of her songs, is based on her own life. And this song chimes with my early childhood brought up in a poor but proud household where my mother would make-do and mend.

I watched a documentery about John, and apparently Annie's song was wtitten very, very quickly, as an almost meaningless, apology to his wife for one of his many, many dalliances.
Quite took the shine off it for a while.

All you John Denver fans should be careful if you're watching the World Cup. Take Me Home Country Roads has been very popular over the past few days during half time and after matches.

The last few years it doesn’t take much to start the tears I can even cry at an advert, and don’t start me off thinking about not seeing my 8 year old grandson grow up I’m crying now just typing it
