Recommendations for fans please

Robert Dyers. £15, USB rechargeable and very quiet. Can also stand on table just about!

Meaco Sefte table top fan - around £100. Feels like it’s cooling the room (yes yes I know a fan can only blow the air around, not change the temperature…) Quiet operator and can set timer. Fine for me.

I use my ice packs that I receive from my injections (igloo) gel in a bag basically. Freeze then Put in a glass bowl, that seems to make the air cooler & Because they are gel they don’t seem to melt as quickly.

I bought the Meaco 1056 from John Lewis 5 years ago and have used it ever since. Expensive (I paid £99, now £100) but very good.

I have just purchased a Logik tower fan which I’ve now set up. Working well so far. There was a Dyson in our posh hotel room last week but it didn’t work very well.j

Have any of you GN's experience of one of these air conditioner units with some sort of 'window kit' included so that apparently you don't need to let hot air/ insects/birds in through an open window? Interested to know how and if they work.

It depends on your windows, ours pivot at the top so a window kit would not work, but sash windows should be fine. You can also get kits for sliding patio doors which is fine if it is tall enough - though a little flimsy.
However in the end the best solution is always a hole drilled through the wall with a slatted vent cover on the outside.

Thanks CC I would need some sort of permanent cover on the inside too for when aircon unit not in use. Concerned re any outlets on exterior wall as live in the middle of open countryside with lots of hornets and bats flying around.

Its called summer not an heatwave, I remember tar melting on the road when we were kids and popping the bubbles, it was never called a heatwave

I have a ProBreeze tower fan ..3 power settings and it oscillates. Has a remote control as well as manual. Best fan I have ever had. Have a small tower black and decker one in the kitchen.

Have 2 dehumidifiers in my bedrooms from John Lewis ,Meaco 20l in my bedroom and 25l in my spare room. Comes with free 5 yrar warranty. Even on night time setting they dry my washing in the spare room. One in my room is on every night all year round. Colder weather takes away the condensation and this hot weather the humidity so no sweaty nights.

Did had ProBreeze 20l dehumidifiers but even though I took out the extra warranty had them off Amazon when they both broken within a month of each other the insurance company only paid out for one and refused to pay for the other one .

I bought a second fan today so I don’t have to keep carrying the old one up and downstairs. I’m quite happy with the same old desk fans, about £17. I know I’m going to need one on day and night for the next week.
This country needs to embrace air con instead of expecting rising deaths every time it’s hot. People certainly shouldn’t be expected to commute and work in extreme heat, thank God I’m retired, I can’t do anything when it’s very hot.

We bought four of John Lewis own make with remote controls and different settings. We find them really good.

I know there have been threads previously, but just wondered if anyone had current recommendations for a good fan, before the next heat wave kicks in.

I have a Dyson hot/ cold blade less fan . It’s silent and comes with a remote control. I have ordered a vortex fan which looks a lot like the Dyson . Again it’s a hot/ cold blade less fan at a fraction of the price (£130) that I think is a great deal .

You have done exactly the right thing Dylis 😊 We have two of those, one downstairs in the livingroom and another in our bedroom. The remote controls are great and they're so quiet you can get a decent 'blow' that you can sleep through. Had our oldest one for about 5 or 6 years now, never had a problem. We also bought the small rechargeable fan which is great for taking away on holiday. And the free storage bag is really good for keeping the dust off during storage. When you want to give the unit a complete thorough clean (after a couple of years use) there's a great video made by the owner of the company that holds your hand and goes step by step.

We have just ordered a Meaco 1056. I have done a lot of research and hopefully I am going for the right one!
I ordered it direct with the company and it includes a free storage bag. Also free next day delivery.

@knspol , my son has had one of those air conditioners that you mention. It works well . At night they have it on the landing with the doors open and it cools all the bedrooms down .

Sorry proper name of fan is: Flex Breeze HydroGo fan. Bought from Amazon but sure available in other stores.

A Shark FLEX is great. Small, very little noise and can be set to emits an unnoticeable mist of water to counter hot dry air you want.

Meaco, much the best I have ever had. 5 stars on the John Lewis website.

I like the fans on tall stands because you can put them high and aim the flow down towards your bed when you are asleep.
