The Antarctic! We are past going to South America and getting on ships, too far for us now but I would have loved to see all the ice and wildlife and that other world we know nothing about.
There are other places, too. I have never been to Canada, I would love to see a wild bear. Where would you like to go ?

Trans Siberian Express, Belorus, Ecuador or anywhere else at high altitude.

Japan has always fascinated me and New Zealand couldn’t hack the long flights now

I’ve done mostly holidays in Europe and the Carribean but I did live in Hong Kind ng for 6 months when my husband was in the army in the early 70s .
Next April I will be going on a cruise with my family to the Norwegian Fjords, which will be a nice change from a sunbathing holiday .

The Galapagos Islands, definitely. As some of you may know, I'm a tortoise-lover and I would just love to see the giant tortoises on the island. I would also be fascinated to see where Darwin developed his groundbreaking theory of evolution.

Sadly I don't think that will be possible now, as it's not really a traditional tourist destination (quite rightly) and I'm not sure I could cope with the journey.

Failing that, I would have loved to visit Madagascar for its unique flora and fauna. A huge proportion of its wild-life inhabitants are found nowhere else in the world - incredible!

AskAlice fyi a friend of mine just got back from a trip to the Galapagos with Nature Trek, flew most of the way and then a small, non luxury type cruise to Galapagos Isles. Very much a trip designed for nature lovers, small group of people can't remember exactly but think less than 20, apparently very well informed speakers. She loved it.

I have been to so few places and now it is too late, sadly.
I have always wanted to go to Canada, especially Quebec and Montreal, and do the long train journey across the Rocky Mountains.
When I was younger lack of time and money prevented me. Then DH’s health made flying unwise. I would have loved to do a long car journey across to eastern Europe but when we retired he took on another job, so that never happened. Now I content myself with short breaks in this country.

I would love to go on the Ghan train from Perth to Sydney, spend about 4 weeks driving up to Cairns and then fly to New.Zealand. We'd then drive through both islands for about 4 weeks. Flying Business Class of course. grinLast year we had 4 nights in Sydney and then did a cruise around NZ. Brilliant, but it felt as though we were just dipping our toes. Distance, age and cost puts it out of reach now. We really loved what we saw of NZ in particular.

I sort of fancy New Zealand but it’s just so far . Never seen the Caribbean but hoping to do a cruise in 2027. I was lucky enough to visit Israel in 1979 and had an amazing holiday . My brother worked in Uzbekistan and I spent some time there just after the break up of the Soviet Union. My father, who I never met, was from India and I planned to visit there but had to cancel twice due to DP’s illness. No longer with DP so hopefully I will get there . I want to have afternoon tea at Wildflower Hall overlooking the Himalayas.

After reading Dervla Murphy’s travel books years ago I particularly wanted to go to Afghanistan and see the apricot trees, I do not think it would be possible or wise today! Not that I am now not fit enough to undertake such a journey. I have never been to Asia, our nomadic life did not venture in that direction.
These days I would be happy to take a trip,on Eurostar if I could get OH to leave his armchair!

Esmay Wed 17-Jun-26 22:20:14

Japan as I'm fascinated by the art.

Georgesgran Wed 17-Jun-26 22:15:16

DH and I always talked about Canada, the Rocky Mountaineer, followed by a whale watching cruise. Sadly, it wasn’t to be, but it seems I’ve been to some of the places other posters would like to visit.

My DiL is part Lebanese but has never been there. I think this is rather sad but the political situation has never been condusive.
Likewise my DM was born in Burma (Myanmar) but I have never been despite having many relatives buried there and growing up hearing all the stories of her childhood.

So yes I would have liked to go but doubt I will now.

Chaitriona Wed 17-Jun-26 21:39:25

Cornwall.

arum Wed 17-Jun-26 18:43:19

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and other Caribbean Islands

BoggledMind Wed 17-Jun-26 18:33:22

Phoenix Arizona.

Sicily I think. That was the trip we were planning when Covid closed down life. Runners up then were Trieste and Cadiz. Only airport phobia and DH’s frailty that prevents us from doing these now.

Never had the means to go when I was younger so missed out on a lot and now just don't think I'd be fit enough for foreign travel, but...Would have liked to have seen some Parts of Italy including Rome and Venice. I would have loved to have experienced India, Australia, and parts of America. I would have liked to have seen New York just once. I would liked to have seen Vietnam and China. I suppose you should never say never but to be honest I panic if I have to go out of my comfort zone within the UK now ! It's quite sad and poignant really thinking of where you would have loved to have gone. When I was young, I always thought one day I'd have the chance, but time has a habit of going rather quickly doesn't it ?!!

St Petersberg. But I heard they're not good with gluten free food. And now i wouldn't go to Russia on principle.

Fran53 Wed 17-Jun-26 17:02:26

I yearned from a young age to go to Australia, so much so that I begged my parents to emigrate, they refused! Fast forward many years and I then tried to get my husband to emigrate, again it was a firm no. It's the one thing in life I regret not being able to do, anyone know a millionaire who would like to buy me a first class return plane ticket?

grannybuy Wed 17-Jun-26 16:46:56

Argentina and Hong Kong.

Musicgirl Wed 17-Jun-26 16:12:19

The Holy Land. Until the region becomes a lot safer, l think it would be madness to attempt to visit it.

TerriBull Wed 17-Jun-26 16:07:28

I have been to Israel in the mid '80s and went all over the country, it's quite small, including frequent visits to Jerusalem. I'm glad I did it then, I wouldn't want to go now. We wanted to go to Egypt from there, but were told we couldn't go back into Israel if we did, so we didn't. If the world were a different place there are whole swathes of the Middle East I would love to have seen, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Iran.

I had relatives who lived in Tehran pre revolution, a bit like Paris back then I'm told. My father, during the war was in Libya and Algeria and parts of those are interesting, Morocco as well. I wouldn't be too bothered about seeing more of the Far East, other than Japan. I spent a week in Singapore visiting Malaysia on the way back from Australia. Since watching Race Across the world, "the Stans" look really interesting, I'd add those to my list of places I'd like to go to, but won't now.

I've done a lot of the US, both east and west coasts and Canada, didn't go to the French part though I would still like to do that. South America and Mexico have been my favourite long haul destinations, I loved Buenos Aires and the Iguazu Falls, less so Rio. I'd love to see more of that continent though. New Zealand was on our list, I feel daunted by how far it is, it took may ages to get over the flight to Australia and I was years younger then. I love going to new places, but of late I hate flying. My last flight was to Jersey 31 mins from Gatwick, Yay! I can just about deal with that grin

Mawmac Wed 17-Jun-26 16:07:12

Like you MissChateline, still hope to visit Argentina, plus Chile, and the Stans, but not on horseback!
Had to cancel Costa Rica earlier this year, but hopefully next year.
However, I was planning a trip to Russia - St Petersburg, Moscow & the trans- Siberian express just before covid. Now, that's impossible to contemplate.
Also, some parts of US - Grand Canyon, Yosemite, New Orleans - don't think I'll ever travel there now.
