Anyone else not watching the World Cup

Have any non fans got anything planned for the six weeks the World Cup will be on? I'm looking through the streaming services and Youtube for old dramas to watch and, if the weather is nice, will be making full advantage of this. Only being in the office two days a week as well means I can avoid people talking about footballers I've never heard of.

World Cup? I didn’t know there was one. Someone mentioned footballers so presumably it’s given to whoever kicks a ball around the best but I thought football was only played in the winter, when the participants can get maximum mud on their clothes.
I’m so glad I only had daughters.

You do know women and girls can play football too, right?

What a bunch of moaning Minnies! The World Cup is only on every four years, so it hardly dominates TV viewing. If you don't like it, don't watch it - but I don't understand how NOT wanting to watch something somehow makes some people look down on those who do want to watch it. I'm sure there are many things people on here love watching which I don't - but I don't pour scorn on them for doing so. Live and let live...plenty of other channels for people to watch.

DH and I both loathe all sport

I hate June/July TV it is sport on all channels, footie, tennis, cricket, thank goodness not olympics or commonwealth games too, drives me insane, stick them on a sports channel and stop cutting our regular viewing schedule!

No interest but fortunately DH not interested either.

I cannot wait for the World Cup to start! Will watch as many matches as possible. And living in California means the timing will be excellent. Also will sometimes go to our local “British” pub to watch with other ex-pats.

Currently watching the England women's team play Spain in the world cup qualifiers group. OK far from our best performance but hey they brought a second European title home just last year.

I have no interest in football.
I shall probably read or watch Netflix.

Definitely won’t be watching.

Although I am a bloke I detest football. Will retire to the library and invest some time in several good books.

Me !

Pardon my ignorance but when does the World Cup start? I thought it was played in July.

I have deduced from news reporting that it is being played across the North American countries, but that is all.

No, sport can take over tv, for all I care, I rarely watch it. There are so many different things I can do in that time.

I have several times planned visits to places of interest to coincide with really big sports (and other) events because there is hardly anyone else there. When Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer. My children and I took ourselves off to Bath for the day, we were about the only people there, and we could see everything in detail and had lots of conversations with the staff working there.

No I hadn't checked to see when it will be running but I will be avoiding it at all costs. DH likes it. I don't. I must make good use of this time as normally he is always 'in my ear' pestering me. I could do some writing or go visit/meet up with friends, do some decluttering. I just don't want to hear it in the background so I can wear my wireless headphones that I finally got back from DD. Any other ideas to use the time productively gratefully received! What are you doing Cumbrianmale56?

I can't stand football, and the combined noise of the stadium crowd really winds me up! It's such a horrible noise, it actually causes me anxiety. 🙉

A football match to me is a group of men kicking a ball back and forth. How anyone can watch that over and over again beats me. Ball going back and forth for ever and ever, match after match after match. 😴

At least the vuvuzelas have been banned. The year when the World Cup was in, I think, South America the sound of them drove me nuts. I couldn’t have the sound off as I don’t know enough about football to understand what’s going on without the commentary.

Basgetti Fri 12-Jun-26 10:07:57

So cross: HIGNFY has been taken off to make way for bloody football!

Jaxjacky Fri 12-Jun-26 10:49:13

The series finished last Friday 5th June Basgetti.
