No interest and won’t be watching. Rugby Union is our thing!

Anyone else not watching the World Cup
(170 Posts)Have any non fans got anything planned for the six weeks the World Cup will be on? I'm looking through the streaming services and Youtube for old dramas to watch and, if the weather is nice, will be making full advantage of this. Only being in the office two days a week as well means I can avoid people talking about footballers I've never heard of.
I do wish our British teams well but I am not interested in watching any of it. I thoroughly object to the main channels ignoring the rest of us and filling our screens with nothing but football, especially pundits, nothing is worse than listening to know it alls dissecting the games for hours on end.

World Cup? I didn’t know there was one. Someone mentioned footballers so presumably it’s given to whoever kicks a ball around the best but I thought football was only played in the winter, when the participants can get maximum mud on their clothes.
I’m so glad I only had daughters.
I know many women and girls who both like and play football, so having daughters is no guarantee of a football-free family. Personally, I'm glad I had a football playing son, I would have hated taking a daughter to ballet dancing
I don't think we will watch all the matches but we'll watch England and probably Scotland.
What World Cup?

Oh God no! I hate football, much to the annoyance of my family. Everytime they try to give me a nugget of information I'm prone to say "you're mistaking me for someone who gives a damn"
Me too! I couldn’t care less about anything to do with football but my husband likes watching his team play and of course he will always watch England play. I read, listen to podcasts or music. There is always something to do in the house.
Oh Watermeadow I was prepared to go along with your post until the line about having daughters
No comment.
Except have you not heard of the Lionesses?
Or for the rugby fans, the Red Roses.
Shame on you
PS I have three daughters, DD1 is a passionate football supporter
DGS1 (her eldest son) has danced with Birmingham Royal Ballet
I'm not sure what is worse - watching the boring game or the fact that everybody thinks you need to watch it.
Why?
I've been to so called professional matches and I think it is absolutely awful. I genuinely would rather watch paint dry
both my husband and I hate sport - so we will be raiding the charity shops for cheap DVDs.
Had an older brother (14 years) who was a professional footballer, did play for his country once. I lived and breathed football as a child, food was geared to what he wanted, needed. Weekends revolved around games, will I won't be dragged along. Only good think was that he had a sports car and when he was home I did get an occasional ride in it and he'd give me a but pocket money for wiping the headlights (think he just allowed me to do that to give me pocket money). Even all thise years ago, finacial rewards nothing like they are nowadays, football and footballers were almost worshiped. For many years, I've detested anything to do with football.
I used to hate big sport events when I was married, especially football as it took priority over everything else. I remember sitting in a newly added spare room with my very young first baby. The room had just been plastered and was still drying out. There was a tatty old armchair and a black and white portable tv sitting on an upturned box. Meanwhile my ex was sitting in the living room watching world cup football most of the time.
By the time we had split up I remained in out house while he moved in with his new partner. Then along came a big football tournament, possibly world cup - I don't remember - and he turned up to remove the second TV for his partner to watch while he watched football on their main set! Me and our two children were left with one set between us!
Thankfully my DS isn't a big sports fan so I could at least watch my favourite programmes. Now I live alone and can avoid the football entirely. No doubt my ex's partner will be relegated to another room like I always was. She's welcome to him!

Me! I’d sooner stuck pins in my eyes than watch football!
Not heard that that expression for years. Had a real good laugh

Hate football, the noise, the 'commentary' nonsense. I would put Jonathan Pierce in room 101 or maybe set his alarm for silly o'clock to be awoken by one of his pathetic outbursts when someone kicks a ball in a net! The rubbish I have had to listen to with my husband (usually when trapped in a car with him!) boring cricket, even more boring golf, monotonous football. Ugggh you have struck a nerve!
No thank you.
Especially when they keep cancelling favourite t.v. Programmes to show it.
I can’t wait for the World Cup, it’s the greatest show on earth. I loathe most sport but international football is so exciting.
I find it really boring but I gather that most of the matches are in the middle of the night so hopefully my husband will watch them when I'm not around.
Definitely not . Thankfully husband hates sport .
oh, is it on? Not interested in cricket.
Dad’s definition of football was, ——- 11 blokes kicking a bag of wind between two posts and another 11 blokes trying to stop them. Never been even remotely interested in watching a game .
Same here, hate football.Luckily for me, my 2youngest sons (at home) hate it as well😆
I will watch when the international timings align as I love football- Arsenal fan here normally.
"Not watching it either — I'll be in the kitchen with my dad making the most of the peace and quiet."

I can't wait! We are carrying out our family sweepstake on Sunday after lunch. Everyone is excited, we are a football family, both playing & supporting. It brings us a lovely month or so of playful enmity, jealousy of those with the home nations & top teams, and lots of WhatsApp messages on a newly established group. Such fun - for football fans. I'm just sad it's in the USA.
I was wondering if anyone else was having a sweepstake!
I’m not much of a football fan if I’m honest, unless I’m watching the grandsons play. I do admire some of our players though - Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford to name but two - and most of the family are really looking forward to it, so I’ll be catching a lot of the action over the next few weeks. I will definitely watch the home nation matches if they’re on during my waking hours, even if I do have one eye on my jigsaw or crossword.
I’m always up for a big international event, and particularly if there’s a sweepstake for me to organise. We’ll be pushing the button on the teams generator tomorrow. No doubt I’ll get four no-hopers, but I might just be in line for the wooden spoon prize.
I like football and will watch if England and Scotland are playing at reasonable times. I'm English and Mr CJ is Scottish so could be interesting! We support the same English club though!
I will be watching but not as excited as 20 years ago with that golden generation. I'm not 100% happy with team squad but let's see!
Wont be watching as there is only one sport that I think is worth watching & thats any motorsport but especially Formula 1 & BTCC!
We never watch sport, any sport, dh not interested nor am I. Drives me mad as we usually watch terrestrial tv but there is so littke choice while sport is on on nearly every channel. For what seems forever.
