Anyone else not watching the World Cup

We are not big fans.
Havent got much of a clue what is going on.

Someone said some matches will be at 3am.
Didnt make sense to me.

Will look it all up sometime.

Not saying I wont get more interested as it all goes along.
Will depend what Countries are left in nearer the end I guess.

I will avoid watchin. I have a hard drive full of programmes to watch instead

I might watch an England game, am not a football fan but if England do well would be exciting to watch.
Not sure why it is in the US, have lived in the US many moons ago for a short time and have family there and the public interest in football is not the same as in most of the rest of the world, for them the SuperBowl is the big thing as well as other sporting events that are not football. They do have some ‘soccer’ teams and of course the national team, but I imagine the public will not be tuning in in large numbers.
Still, I suppose they have the big bucks to put on a good show.

Not a football fan really, the actual games are not the problem but the interminable chat before and afterwards. Not just football either most sports now seem to have 'experts' who dissect the games minute by minute it is so boring and takes up so much time.

My husband (died 15 years ago) was a West Ham fan, which ensures miserable match days 😉😉, and my whole family are footie fans, grandsons and one granddaughter all play for local clubs, so yes will be watching, but with no high hopes! I have 6 year old twin grandsons, one supporting Portugal and the other Argentina 🤣🤣 , but I can understand those with no interest getting fed up with the coverage. Although do remember many of the games will be late, or early hours, so maybe not as many changes to schedules 😀.

But there are many more on the site than it would first appear.

I will watch the England matches but at a reasonable hour on catchup. I’m not mad keen on football but my son and his children are all avid Tottenham fans as was my late husband so follow their progress occasionally.
It won’t be the same coming from the Americas as North Americans aren’t as fond of footie as us unlike the South America’s countries like Brazil & Mexico are mad keen. I hope we do well but I don’t expect us to win.

I might watch the final if England manage to make it that far, otherwise I'll avoid it. I had to be the football fan when our son was at home because DH isn't a sports fan, but since he left home my interest has evaporated.

But no doubt there will be similar moans when Wimbledon is on (“Come on Tim!”)) as if what is on TV is the only thing that matters!
With more streaming platforms than you can shake a stick at, I can’t see what all the fuss is about - unless you spend your life in Wetherspoons.

The World Cup I’ll. ever forget was the 1966 one - we had my German exchange girl staying! Talk about nerves - I could barely bear to watch at the end.

It was very hard for poor Ingrid of course, but I’m still glad it wasn’t the other way around!

I was on holiday with mum and dad and we watched it in a sort of communal room on the camp site. It’s one of the standout memories of my childhood.

Perhaps because I am not English and also have no particular interest in football, but I cannot understand why watching/not watching is such a big deal or should be a source of pride or superiority.
Of course I wish the England team well, and the Scots (are any other “home”nations involved?)
But why don’t we have a thread about who isn’t watching the Open (golf) or Roland Garros? I suppose there will be admonitions on frequenting Wetherspoons or not, next.

It is not a particular English thing. I is the same in many big football countries round the world

As to the uery about alternative events. uite simply the following is much less than that for football, no one is interested.

Whether you are interested in any particular sport, or none at all (like me), a passion for football is something that unites nations (internally, but not externally) - and numbers count.

I'll read the scores along with my daily news round up. If England get through to the quarters, semis or final, I might watch some of the matches. If England actually wins, I'll piggy back on to the euphoria, just like many others. Same with Wimbledon.

RL fan definitely not football for me.

I can't wait! We are carrying out our family sweepstake on Sunday after lunch. Everyone is excited, we are a football family, both playing & supporting. It brings us a lovely month or so of playful enmity, jealousy of those with the home nations & top teams, and lots of WhatsApp messages on a newly established group. Such fun - for football fans. I'm just sad it's in the USA.

Against the run of play, we will be watching the World Cup, if we manage to stay awake.

As well as the England games, I will also be keeping an eye on the Norway games - big Erling Haaland fan here! Any chance to see my favourite player in action!

Add to this the fact that Mr LP hails originally from Scotland, and still supports his national team - though without much hope of success, they're in the same group as Brazil!

Someone was asking upthread if Wimbledon clashed with the World Cup. Well, sort of, but different times of day/night! Wimbledon fortnight starts on the 29th June, England's first match is 17th June.

I understand that not everyone is a sports fan, so I hope we get nice weather so people can get out into their gardens, parks, countryside, beaches etc, and enjoy themselves in their own way - possibly with the advantage of less crowded spaces?

I certainly won't be watching it but DH will no doubt watch a bit of it. If we get to the final I will watch some of it even though I don't have any real interest in football. My son-in-law however will be glued to the screen over the next few weeks.

Football? Nah! Bunch of guys kicking a ball around for 90 minutes? Stultifying... I'd rather watch paint dry.

I'll only watch it if they get into the final which I doubt.
I don't even know who the England players are these days.
I'm more concerned with Emmerdale and Corrie being on at different days and times.

definately not watching the world cup! I detest football.
i've got enough recorded on my sky q box to keep me happy for weeks and hopefully more programmes will be recorded every day.
just as long as they keep the repair shop on on a Wednesday- too often they take it off when football happens.
