I meant me listening to the radio whilst they had the footie on..
Good Morning Wednesday 17th June 2026
Have any non fans got anything planned for the six weeks the World Cup will be on? I'm looking through the streaming services and Youtube for old dramas to watch and, if the weather is nice, will be making full advantage of this. Only being in the office two days a week as well means I can avoid people talking about footballers I've never heard of.
I meant me listening to the radio whilst they had the footie on..

Well I'll be watching some that isn't on at silly o'clock, I love football. I boycotted the last one as a matter of principle and wouldn't let myself watch one minute of it. I thought about boycotting this one because of the USA involvement but decided not to. I'll be in the correct timezone for the last couple of weeks of the tournament so would love it if England get that far.
I didn’t boycott the last one but felt that I should boycott this one. However, having boycotted the Eurovision Song Contest ( which I love) I’ve decided that I’m not going to let Trump deprive me of something I enjoy. At least during the matches I hopefully won’t have to turn on the tv to see him ranting on about something. I’m no expert but I don’t remember being very impressed with the standard of football in the last one ( I don’t understand the game (eg offside stuff) but do know when I’m watching a good one!). Will Wimbledon be coinciding with it, too?
I may watch the odd game, but most of the time I shall just keep an eye on the results. I have plenty of things to keep myself occupied anyway, so the World Cup won't really make a difference to my life.
I shall return to watching my local team in August.

Me! TBH I loathe football.
Ditto.
I dont watch it at all, it has no interest for me I would rather knit fog
We have football mad children and grandchildren, so will try to watch, especially England and Spain
No interest whatsoever. My life will carry on as usual.
It's not just a female thing, a lot of men don't like football and prefer other sports, or watch no sports at all. In the office at work, the majority of staff are women, and only two like football, and half the men don't care either.
My main dislie of football, and also other team sports, is hereditaty: my dad hated school games, I had no aptitude at them and won't watch soemthing I hated playing as a kid and couldn't play.
Don't get the patriotism thing about supporting England either: the players live in a world far removed from the fans and only care about the money. They're certainly not my country.
I detest football with a vengeance!!
No, I'm not watching it.
Well, not in England anyway. 🤣
I am watching from my house in France. France's prediction to win is higher than England's, so that's who I'll support.
There's loads of merchandise here in supermarkets and shops. I bought DGS the kit, so France had better not be knocked out before I get home at the beginning of July!!
I like football, but the edge is off it this time because there has been so much controversy, and I’m really not a fan of the razzmatazz that the USA are putting on for the games. I’m pretty tolerant about sport being on TV because it attracts millions of viewers, that’s why the mainstream channels show it in preference to the usual fare. If you have no paid for channels, there is plenty of alternative viewing on Freeview too.
No one will be watching the World Cup in this household. Life will continue as if it had never been thought of.
Thinking back to 1966 (I am sure some of you will remember it). I had a busy day, I was sailing in the morning and after lunch with my skipper I got back on the tube to return to my bedsit at Chalk Farm.
I noticed that the roads were very empty and that there were very few people on the tube. At Chalk Farm, got out and once again the streets and shops were empty. I went into an electrical shop to buy batteries for my radio. The shop was empty but there was clearly a tv in a back area briadcasting a football match. A very disgruntled member of staff came out to serve me and I asked him why everything was so uiet, Where was everybody?
He looked at me with amazement and said. 'It is the World Cup final', I wandered out still mystified. I knew there was some football contest on, but that it was the final and England were in it had completely passed me by.
I will be watching - I love football ⚽️
Don't get the patriotism thing about supporting England either: the players live in a world far removed from the fans and only care about the money. I beg to differ some players and ex players certainly care very much about the football not the money. One for example, just see Ian Wright watching an England match and see his reaction when they score. Incidentally Ian Wright cares just as much about the women's game too. And he never played for my club team, so it isn't me being biased.
My DH loves football, so it will be on in our house , although many of the matches are at silly o clock .
Watching a lot of men kick a ball around for £millions is something I can manage without, I won’t be watching.
Allez les blues Martav!
Yes, I shall be watching our England matches 🏴
I'm not really a soccer fan, so most likely not. Of course there will be hype for Canada so my DH may have the TV on.
We have been watching the news regarding getting set up for the cup, controversy regarding ticket prices which are astronomical, and the inflated hotel costs in Vancouver.
As for all the games taking place in USA, we hear the news that the travel numbers expected are much lower than predicted, due to high prices and politics.
I guess I have to try to focus on the sport without all the background noise, since soccer/football is such a beloved sport all over the world.
Canadian Gran I'm so glad we book our annual trip to see Canadian relatives at least 10 months in advance because airfares exploded, a combination of Trump's antics and availability! The ticket prices for matches in the states are unreal, I hope stadia are half empty, greed should never conquer. We'll be going to mid/eastern Canada, I haven't actually looked where the Canadian based matches are being played.
Perhaps because I am not English and also have no particular interest in football, but I cannot understand why watching/not watching is such a big deal or should be a source of pride or superiority.
Of course I wish the England team well, and the Scots (are any other “home”nations involved?)
But why don’t we have a thread about who isn’t watching the Open (golf) or Roland Garros? I suppose there will be admonitions on frequenting Wetherspoons or not, next.

I suppose it is because we can’t get away from it. Shops, pubs, television, newspaper. etc, etc are full of it. Advertising is aimed at it.
I remember the last time England was in the Final, we opened the school early, special breakfast and a large television in the hall. When they lost ,the boys , especially were inconsolable. Never again our head said.
No interest really but since watching ‘Dear England’ I will watch the England matches
Dh is not much of a footie fan, more of a rugger bugger, but I dare say he’ll watch some England games, so I’ll have to take myself off to the kitchen or garden, or out altogether.
I won't watch any of it, even allowing for Scotland playing for the first time for years. I'm not a fan of football. I expect it'll be on if dgs1 is around as he's a big fan of playing and watching
