I have never reported anyone because I despise tattle tales.

Please grow up. Saying that sounds like my Grandson 11 at the time, he and a lot of boys stuck to the code of I am not grassing.
Attitudes like that discourage people who are being bullied at work from reporting it.
I can categorically say I did not report Allirra, but although some reporting may be spiteful there are some things that need reporting, racism, and personal remarks designed to cause hurt. This is a online community and why should some posters be hurt and uncomfortable. That is why it has to be confidential.
Allira and I have agreed and disagreed. I gsd no bother with her at all.

Other posters are right - it is a character assassination. With sufficient detail (not supplied) it could be slanderous. I wonder where the free speech union is on this?

This is all so sad. Whenever I saw Callistemon/*Allira*’s name (I didn’t know they were one and the same people until this thread) I knew there’d be a sensible post, with nothing nasty. She always seemed to nail the zeitgeist.

I agree. This can really affect how many GNs post on here. It’s like having someone lurking behind you ready to pounce. I’ve never been brave enough to post on N & P threads, mainly because I don’t feel I’m as clued up as other posters, but now I’ll hesitate about posting at all.

I’m still shocked by the Gransnet character assassination of Callistemon/Allira. I’m one of the many posters who simply do not recognise that description as having any resemblance to Allira.
It’s difficult not to think this could be any one of us.

My other concern is the potential impact on the welfare of any poster described in the way Allira has been. Many of us are widowed, bereaved and managing various health problems. It’s the Gransnet demographic

Me too! Any poster who had never encountered Allira would think she was a thoroughly horrible person who had been a scourge to these forums for months if not years. We all know differently. I suspect that post could be libellous if Allira's real identity had been revealed.

Spot on. If this can happen to Allira, it could happen to any of us, hence why I said in an earlier post that I really think it will put people off posting.

Allira undoubtedly has a lovely life, a lovely family, and lovely grandchildren, but I agree with Iam64 that such a character assassination could have a devastating impact on anyone who cares.
And beyond everything else, Allira cares.

I have copped a fair bit of abuse but I wouldn’t even consider reporting . What’s wrong with people? I just feel deeply sorry for those abusing and consider they probably have dull lives and it just makes me feel rather superior , if anything , because I have a lovely life. Allira is NOT the person portrayed by the mods. At all.

An extremely disappointing response.

The decision to ban was made in light of the overall moderation history and a repeated pattern of behaviour over time. It was not based on one incident, one thread, or one report. That pattern included thread-policing, inflammatory posts, personal digs, bringing old grievances back into threads and encouraging criticism of posters who report posts.

I cannot pretend to have read all the posts that Allira wrote but I recall her as being entertaining, light-hearted, occasionally sardonic but generally balanced. I do not recall posts containing the criticisms listed above. In the cause of fairness examples should be provided to justify the ban; at present it is unjustified, based on an enquiry conducted in secret. I hope the campaign against it continues.

This cloak of obfuscation and anonymity does not serve Gransnet well.

Allira's banning still stinks. GN really has not got this right.

Having joined this forum around three years ago, Allira was the first person to welcome me and I will miss her very much.

Not just to you, she was always welcoming.

Doesn't this rather contradict the claim that Allira's alleged bad behaviour would be off-putting for people who are new or not part of an established group?
So that's that idea out the window.

I’m in favour of reporting, and to avoid the chance of anybody else being targeted in the way Allira must have been, I hope everybody will be willing to say when they have done so, and importantly, what their reason for reporting is. I hate the ‘some people’ side of Gransnet, and I think we would be a better site for being more open about when they think somebody else has crossed the line. That way, behaviour might be modified rather than continuing because offenders are not aware.

You make a good point Iam64. I would be devastated to read that about myself. I am widowed and live alone with family miles away and friends having died.
I hope Allira won't recognise herself in that description as others haven't.
It's all quite upsetting.

I also think politics comes into it. I will say no more but some will know exactly what I mean. Disgraceful.

I’m so sorry to read of this outcome. Allira didn’t deserve this to happen. In all the years I’ve been on GN I’ve never found her to be unpleasant in her posts. It stinks.

You’ll be missed Allira and I sincerely hope you’ll find a way to return 💐

That's the tack many of us have taken in the past which lets these posters remain with their toxicity. Meanwhile they report everything and anything they can which results in a poster like Allira getting a lifetime ban. Time for justice and equity, call them all out, every single one. Report, report, report!
Allira deserved fairness, equity, justice, she got none of these while her accuser/s get to continue despite their own transgressions.
