FGT2 I am on the point of giving up on the N & P threads.
Lest we forget what we have just lost ....

I think it’s probably ‘sauce for the goose’ time Galaxy as those who don’t get reported become ever more emboldened. Some are Teflon coated because no-one calls them out.
Apologies if my post about ‘echo chambers’ offended you TulipTree but to be honest as a ratio the left leaning posters generate a lot of posts (with a myriad of links) far in excess than the few of us posters with more centre right opinions. Hey ho. Which illustrates what I meant.
I rest my case
Anyway, back to Allira - far more important.

I have had four personal attacks on some of those threads. They weren't deleted because I didn't report. I am still thinking about it but I am moving towards reporting all such incidents.
It’s completely your choice -do what feels right for you.

I think it’s quite insulting to a large number of Gransnetters to rubbish threads they’re on as echo chambers and imply they are serial reporters. There’s some interesting and feisty debates going on and I’ve only seen one deletion so far.

Gosh Doodledog I hadn’t realised that Growstuff had been banned.
A poster I rarely agreed with and who held strong views but always interesting and well researched posts.
Goodness me, let’s have a rewritten and clear list of rules followed by a total
Amnesty for all previously banned posters.
Once we have a list of completely unambiguous rules we will all know how to behave as expected.
So GNHQ please may we have unambiguous rules and a wiped clean slate for all.
Thank you.
Agreed on all counts. I don’t want GN to be somewhere that just deletes people who ‘some’ don’t like.
I don’t know whether GS would come back or not, but like many of us she was older and suffering from ill health, so ‘disappearing’ her at a stroke was, IMO wrong.
So is holding popularity contests for the disappeared ones. Reinstatement should be based on conduct, not the number of supporters they have. IMO.
Excellent post LauraNorderr well argued.
To be honest I miss the cut and thrust of the N&P threads but daren’t post now. If I get caught in the crosshairs of a heated discussion who knows whether I might rattle someone’s cage and get reported. Then ‘poof’ I’m gone. Not worth the risk anymore in my opinion. I’m sticking pretty much to the ‘safe threads’ - the Good Morning one and then I bookend my day with a post in soops.
I value the kindness and empathy from virtual friends in my new state of widowhood to risk jeopardising my account.
A sad state of affairs which we have to accept. Oh well, the echo chambers in N&P are pretty delighted not to suffer my nonsense opinions I suppose. 🤷♀️
It’s shoddy. I’ve enjoyed gransnet since I retired but currently I’m uneasy about the way it’s moderated. It’s all a bit 1984
It's making me think twice about investing my time and efforts into posting, and very many members on here post far more than I do so are investing a lot more of their time.
And that's a real shame because for a lot of members it's an important support network, for many and varied reasons, regardless of how jolly they might seem in print.
It's been a sad few weeks, with no real answers. It could be any one of us next.
Good post, Laura.
Yes, well said LauraNorder.
This unfair banning has highlighted the way posts can be deleted but the poster given no reason, questioned then told by gransnet to read the guidelines.

LauraNorder well said 👏👏👏
Well put LauraNorder
Yes she was quite clear that she didn't want us speculating on who might be reporting but the only thing having a 'chilling effect' on GN is their unceremonious dumping of a long standing friend of ours for nebulous reasons.
I am sorry Annie, with all due respect, but the process is unfair. If one or more posters take a dislike to someone and goad them in to retaliating then continuously report them the outcome will be that that poster will come to your attention. The latter has tried to sort out the goading for herself and does not report the goaders then they do not come to your attention,
Hence in my opinion your wrongful banning.
Please be aware that your policy of reporting is flawed and can be abused. Reporting should only be used in extreme cases such as racism, sexism, deliberate cruelty and the like and not cases of heated argument where both are giving as good as they get.
Hurt feelings shouldn’t come in to it, nor should accusations of bullying in retaliation to harsh answers. We are grown ups and should be able to cope with all sorts of attitudes.
We are not shrinking violets, wimps, snowflakes, etc., if we are then we have no place on social media and should remain in the salon with our smelling salts.
I think Annie has been quite clear in what she said Aveline
I assume our position hasn't changed means she wont be coming back Aveline.
This is getting beyond ridiculous now...
So when are you reinstating Allira?
Hi all,
We’re not going to go back over the individual decision again here. We know some of you feel very strongly about it, and we do understand that. But we’ve said what we can fairly say, and our position hasn’t changed.
There is one thing we do need to pick up on, though, which is the way reports and reporters are being talked about.
Gransnet only works if people feel able to report things to us. We don’t see every post as it happens - no forum team does - and we rely on reports from users to help us spot things that may need looking at. Sometimes we agree with a report and take action; sometimes we don’t. But reporting in itself isn’t malicious. It’s part of how a self-policing community functions.
We also want to be very clear that we do not tell posters who has reported them. Reports are confidential, and they need to stay that way. Once people start speculating about who reported what, or suggesting that posters should be ashamed of reporting, it has a chilling effect. It makes people less likely to flag things when they genuinely feel targeted or uncomfortable, and that isn’t good for any of us.
We know this is an emotive subject, and we’re not asking everyone to agree with us. But please don’t turn this into a hunt for reporters, or a campaign to make reporting look like something underhand. It really isn’t. It’s one of the ways people help keep the place usable.
General feedback about moderation is fine, and we’ll read it. But we will remove posts that speculate about reporters.
Thanks,
GNHQ
