Ear worms! What’s yours today?

I have ear worms most days, songs or bits of music that play constantly in my head, today it’s ‘Let’s Stick Together’ by Bryan Ferry.
Now, I haven’t heard this song for a long time nor have I been reading about Bryan Ferry so why should this be?
Yesterday it was a piece of music, called I think The Moonlight Sonata, again something I’ve not heard in ages.
Strange isn’t it?

Gosh, I remember that flipping bus and its endless wheels! There would be about six of us tunelessly singing it to stop junior daughter's son from screaming!

Last week's and today's worm is the NHS electronic musak when one is kept on hold waiting for the phone to be answered!! It was blasting at me for an hour and a half and still noone answered.

I miss read the heading... I thought it said.. Eat worms? 🤭

Me too! That reminded me of the song about eating worms, but fortunately that has not become an ear worm.

What has, is the Air Scotia company song from The High Life TV series of the 90s. It has recently been made into a musical with the original cast, and has been touring Scotland. Scottish GNers may remember it! It's been going round and round in my head for days now.

BoggledMind, I too get random songs popping up to have a shot at being ear worms. Goodness knows where they come from and why they surface!

The other day, on YouTube , i came across a young autistic young boy, Jack, who loves Legos, sing ‘Just when i needed you most’ - I can’t get that out of my mind.

Allegri’s ‘Miserere’. I hate it. I’d sooner have my teeth drilled than suffer twelve minutes of it and now I can’t get rid of it!! Thank you, radio 3!

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jun-26 10:18:10

I find a particular sound might cause an earworm for me.
My mind will fit a tune around the sound of a noisy fan, for example.
I can't remember which scan it is, (the horribly noisy one) had me singing "sweet child of mine" to it, follwed by a multitude of other songs.
Absolute torture!
I had to do all the twiddly guitar solos, too! smile

I don't have an ear worm floating around as yet, but I am curious about them, and it's this.

We often get them after hearing something (as mentioned previously), but many times, I get an ear worm of a song or tune that I haven't heard for perhaps a very long time. It appears to come out of nowhere. Does this happen to anyone else? And why would a random song / tune appear from nowhere? Is there a file in our brains storing music throughout our lives, kept hidden until ear worm day?

MissAdventure Thu 04-Jun-26 22:41:49

Hmmm, that is interesting.
A sign? A lttle "Hello" from the other side?
What do you think?

Sometimes they say it's someone trying to communicate with you, don't know if it's in this place or the next !

That's a bit spooky.

It's almost exactly 5 years since my DF died and for the last few days I've had 'There was a soldier, a Scottish soldier, who wandered far away, and soldiered far away' running through my head. My DF used to sing it all the time when we were small and I always associate it with him as I've never heard it sung by anyone else.

Yes, it is similar.
Dedicated Follower of Fashion is my favourite Kinks song and gets stuck in my head too.

3 6 9 The goose drank wine, the monkey chewed tobacco on the streetcar line......
On and on it goes, I always used to love this nonsense rhyme, but once I start humming it, cannot get it out of my head...
