Whether they are banned or simply stop contributing it seems this happens reasonably often. It is a shame ,particularly when someone who has been a ‘regular’ is banned and most of us have no idea what caused it. A recent person to be banned never, as far as I am aware, transgressed . Sometimes I think someone with opposing views complains and causes a banning quite unnecessarily and we are the poorer for it. It would be very boring indeed if we all held the same views on everything.

If only people would think twice before pressing that report button. I have never reported anyone as I feel posts should be left for all to see and wonder about the effect on someone when they are reported and then possibly banned.
I still think it's cowardly to report.

I don’t think reporting is in itself cowardly, because sometimes people say things that are really offensive, even illegal, and there is no option. The cowardly thing is to report somebody but not say that you have done so, in my opinion anyway. If you feel strongly enough to report, you should not be afraid to say you have, and why.

Kandinsky Sat 30-May-26 16:58:07

I’m sure I have said when I’ve reported a post, but I personally don’t know what difference that makes?
Numerous people could be reporting the same post.

Casdon Sat 30-May-26 17:04:12

I think when you publicly say that you have reported, it makes you think twice about whether reporting is really justified, and not just a petty response because you disagree with what somebody has said. It’s usually better to let others see when somebody has said something out of order, so I’d only ever report something that was a blatant personal attack, racist, incited violence, or something equivalent, but some people must have lower reporting triggers, or Allira would still be here.

Well done if you’ve said you reported.
If everyone who reported posted that they had, and the reasons for doing so it would help, especially if people were reporting the same post.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 30-May-26 17:09:15

On the couple of occasions I have reported a post, I have posted that I have done so and why.

Kandinsky Sat 30-May-26 17:11:48

Casdon
Yes, you’re right.

Oreo Sat 30-May-26 17:19:05

Talking of the how and why of reporting doesn’t address the fact that Allira never needed to be reported as don’t the vast majority of other posters on here.
A few do now and then. The goady posts especially if they come thick and fast.

We also have a responsibility not to pursue a poster, as Allira obviously was, with the intention of getting her banned, imo.

Not the Allira I recognise, sorry.

ixion Sat 30-May-26 17:30:48

Did you mean that Allira was doing the pursuing or that she was on the receiving end?
🤔

TerriBull Sat 30-May-26 17:38:38

That's not true! Allira was the one being pursued by a poster who had it in for her and who'd changed names several times, she's propably changing again right now shes been rumbledangry

Doodledog Sat 30-May-26 17:42:12

Who is it?

I may be a bit thick, but I'm no wiser than I was.

MayBee70 Sat 30-May-26 17:43:52

I think I’m currently in some sort of parallel universe confused.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 30-May-26 17:45:21

TerriBull correct 👍

And me, I haven’t a clue who is who really only see names and respond.

Casdon Sat 30-May-26 18:16:24

If you’re correct TerriBull, provided that GNHQ have been given all the details of current and previous incarnations of the pursuer, it would presumably be something they can investigate fairly easily? It’s still likely to depend on whether Allira breached the red line they have set, but it changes the goalposts a lot, surely.

LizzieDrip Sat 30-May-26 18:19:33

Parallel universe here too MayBe and WWM2confused

JaneJudge Sat 30-May-26 18:27:28

I’m always confused 😐

Sorry, badly expressed .......... (and if Allira were here, she'd say, ("You been at the wine again?")

I meant to say,
in the way that Allira was (pursued),
i.e. on the receiving end.

TerriBull

Yes she was very funny. I think the problem could have occurred when her levity crossed with the dead serious prefects of GN, the ones with the perma stern and stoney faces 😠😠😠

And taking the thread off course with light hearted banter.
Although I have to admit to adding to the banter on the last thread where this happened. 😉
But thanks to a fun sponge these type of threads won’t happen again 😥

Gransnet HQ repeatedly state they are not influenced by Reports when operating a suspension or ban.
It would be courteous to publish the reason, if only to prevent other posters from falling into the same trap.
This arbitrary suspension without explanation is, intentionally or not, curtailing free speech.

Now that is a very good point.

Because we are all wondering what on earth she could have said that would attract a permanent ban (I'm assuming from what I've read that it is permanent?).

And that does beg the question. We need to know, because if Allira can fall into the trap, then so could possibly any of us - and it's inhibiting.

The other thing that worries me is that I know there are posters on here who have a lot going on, medically speaking. If they get banned for any reason, haven't exchanged email addresses with anyone, and need to reach-out for whatever reason, then they are stuffed. If they are having a tough time, have had some awful health crisis, or even a worrying diagnosis, the support from the GN community could be very important. I'm thinking of the threads where members post their recent GP or hospital 'test' results, and are terrified of the implications. And that's not hype, I have seen posters use that precise word. There are frequently threads like that where, by the end of them, the OP returns to thank everyone and say that they are feeling calmer because of the support, and crucially - information - they've received.

When my partner died last year, GN became, after a few months, a kind of lifeline for me because being part of the rumble and rattle of the every-day posts was what helped me to pick up the threads of 'normal' life. As has been said, we are a community. Maybe it's not an exaggeration to say that peremptorily cutting someone off from their community could in some instances, be quite devastating?

Can you divulge why GN wouldn’t let you quote the above.
Did they contact you?
Let’s see if they let me quote it.

They have yet to produce evidence that Allira came back when she was banned under a previous name.

There is something very unpleasant going on here. We are united yet gnhq dismiss our posts as they clearly count for nothing

They want to shut Gransnet?
