Whether they are banned or simply stop contributing it seems this happens reasonably often. It is a shame ,particularly when someone who has been a ‘regular’ is banned and most of us have no idea what caused it. A recent person to be banned never, as far as I am aware, transgressed . Sometimes I think someone with opposing views complains and causes a banning quite unnecessarily and we are the poorer for it. It would be very boring indeed if we all held the same views on everything.

HelterSkelter1

I expect this will be picked up by the press soon. Anarchy on Gransnet!

This is just what we dont want imo HelterSkelter. I suggest we cut the big drama gossip tone element and stick to sensible suggestions to try and get Allirra back.

I value the relative lack of press reporting. There are so many of us who write and share out of need very private matters, asking for help on this or that. We want a relatively safe space and on the whole GN does give us that.

Can we concentrate on targeting who to write to and get on with doing so, so we can keep the Gransnet many of us value?

Writing about, "ooo maybe I'll be banned next" etc etc is just the sort of thing that could be picked up

I feel being positive for Allira is our best option. Hi Allira xx

I'm glad you're not the CEO fancythat, it would be awful to lose GN.

I am happy to email, but I'm not sure what has happened, so I can't include relevant points.

I know Allira has been banned, but not why. Is it because she used to post under a different name? I thought everyone knew that, and in any case it's hardly uncommon. If we know the answer we can refer to it in our emails.

People are saying there is a conspiracy, but what is it, and who is involved? Same applies.

Who hasn't posted on the thread, and why is that sinister? If that is a veiled accusation, who is being accused (or how do I work it out)? That's mostly nosiness if I'm honest, but again, it could be included in an email if there is a history.

Why is all of this secret between us? I can understand HQ not publicly going into detail, but why are posters talking in code? Surely we can speak about it if Allira doesn't mind? Obviously not to accuse an individual in case we're wrong, but in more general terms. I am a long-term regular poster, and I have no idea what's going on, so newbies or less regular contributors must feel left out - this puts people off posting. I nearly gave up on GN years ago when something similar was happening - all the coded posts felt very exclusionary.

If anyone 'in the know' would like to give more detail, the emails can be better targeted.

Finally, if those of us who pay the MN subscription cancel it, it might make a point? I know it's not a lot, but every little helps, as they say in Tesco grin

Excellent post Doodledog.

(BTW I didn’t know that Allira used to post under another name🤷‍♀️)

fancythat

I thought I read on here, and maybe somewhere else when someone posted, that Gransnet has never made a profit.

I've read that on here, but that doesn't make it true grin. On paper, it should make money, and would if the owners updated it and tried to attract the numerous millionaire pensioners who are supposedly out there.

Is it possible for those who know the detail of what Allira has been accused of to tell us that detail? Would this be appropriate?

I just did

I have ben away from this forum for nearly two weeks.
No real idea of what happened.
I have read this thread.

There was a post by someone from Gransnet HQ right at the beginning of this thread.

If there is a new CEO, if I was her, I would pull the plug on Gransnet if they get browbeaten by it.
It has always been a loss maker.

Tell contributers to just join Mumsnet if they wanted to. Make Mumsnet for all ages[which I assume it is already?].

MN is for all ages, and many of us post on both sites, but GN has a particular demographic which attracts particular advertising. The 'grey pound' is valuable, and if managed properly the site could be very profitable - do we know that it isn't?

I know for a fact that there are, or have been, cliques on GN who orchestrate multiple reporting to get posters banned. I know this because many years ago I was included by mistake in the PMs discussing it.

shock Good heavens! But, that was useful - at least you knew what the mean-girls were up to, and that sheds some light on why some posters disappeared.

I remember there were a couple of members who were a tad controversial - and awkward... but I usually found it easy enough to give as good as I got (so to speak) if I was targeted... or just log out of GN and go do something else!

But - Allira? How can anyone be offended by her comments?

Squiffy Thu 28-May-26 10:31:31

I’ve sent an email, so let’s hope enough are sent to prompt Allira’s reinstatement.

👋 Allira

Doodledog, we don't all know the exact 'reason' for the banishment, but I have gone with how I find Allira to be courteous in her responses, even if we are on different sides of the discussion.

I agree with this. I don't always agree with Allira, but that's true of most posters - I agree on some topics but not on others - but like her sense of humour, and ability to see both sides.

I just think that if we are asking for reinstatement it would be better if we were all saying the same things.

Have written asking for Allira's reinstatement. Kept it short.

Galaxy Thu 28-May-26 10:13:58

Yes I often agree with Allira and sometimes disagree, I have never seen her be unpleasant. She is witty, I wonder if people can't cope with that.

Thanks Scribbles, we'll soon know if our emails have been read and/or passed on.
I assume there will be some sort of reply.

Galaxy Thu 28-May-26 10:02:56

This has happened numerous times before on MN, it didn't make any difference or make the press I am afraid. The only time think I have ever seen a decision overturned was a recent poster on here.

Silvershadow Thu 28-May-26 10:02:40

I’ve got no real views on this being a newish poster and I’m not familiar with the banned poster probably because I don’t look at the same chats.

Two things spring to mind. If they say she’s banned because of numerous reporting is it all in the same topic or a cumulative effect over several months and topics?

Reported by one specific poster or several?

Also, notwithstanding the fact that so many are up in arms about it, where does that leave the person(s) who did the reporting? Are they no longer welcome?

As someone else already said, not writing in support on this banned lady doesn’t mean they are complicit in the reporting. People might be ill, on holiday, have no interest etc.

As I say, none of it affects me but just felt I’d add a few words, trying to look at it unemotionally.

I wonder if GNHQ have considered the possibility that these 'numerous reports' could have come from one or two posters, who set up several 'new' accounts just so they could use them to report.

This would look extremely suspicious if reports have come from posters who don't have a posting history.

What is in no doubt is that no one can understand what Allira could have done to justify a lifetime ban and this is very concerning and unsettling for the rest of us.

and both scenarios sinister (imho)

Scribbles Thu 28-May-26 09:52:03

I have emailed Justine Roberts. I understand that she is no longer CEO at Mumsnet/Gransnet but retains ownership of the business and, therefore, will have a strong interest in what's happening. If members become disillusioned and leave the site, there won't be a business left worth owning.

JaneJudge Thu 28-May-26 09:41:39

I don't understand who has the motivation to keep reporting people or trying to get people banned

MawsRosie Thu 28-May-26 09:34:40

Oreo

Allira hadn’t been banned before, that’s all just Chinese whispers.
If posters haven’t got any factual content then leave off the gossip.

True, she hasn’t, but it’s what she has been accused of and of subsequently returning”under the wire”
Told this by Allira herself.

JenniferEccles Thu 28-May-26 09:28:06

I had a feeling I had read that Justine Roberts had left/sold Mumsnet, and according to what I have found, someone called Sue Macmillan is now the CEO.
