Whether they are banned or simply stop contributing it seems this happens reasonably often. It is a shame ,particularly when someone who has been a ‘regular’ is banned and most of us have no idea what caused it. A recent person to be banned never, as far as I am aware, transgressed . Sometimes I think someone with opposing views complains and causes a banning quite unnecessarily and we are the poorer for it. It would be very boring indeed if we all held the same views on everything.

If someone has been banned on Gransnet, are they also banned on Mumsnet? I assume you have to register separately but when I've occasionally looked, I think I've recognised usernames from here, as I know some are on both sites.

I’ve been out all day today babysitting my GD, and I’ve just got home and caught up with the thread. It seems to have drifted somewhat, into ‘some posters’ territory, I suspect that those comments are focussed less on how we can support *Allira’s return than on personal grievances, which are really not relevant to this, as I’m sure ‘some posters’ means different people to all of us.

What i think is important is to appeal to the specific ‘some posters’ who reported Allira, to ask them if they would consider asking for her reinstatement, given how many of us feel it was unjust to report her on such slender grounds. I wonder if they are reading this, whether they would consider it.

I ve had no response to the email not even a generic ‘thank you for your email’

I’ve sent you a PM.

I do wonder why GN guidelines appear to be enforced over zealously compared to mumsnet.

On the odd occasion I drift over to their site, I am amazed at some of their threads and posts. Far more robust debate, swearing and mud slinging abounds.

Surely what’s good for one should be good for the other 🤷‍♀️

Because we're probably seen as gentle geriatric nanna knitters like the old Shreddies ad Or at least that's how they'd like us to be 😂

Good to see you back, Caleo. 👋

To be honest, I feel like I have taken hallucionegics, I no longer have much understanding of what is going on.

welcome to my world sad grin

who are 'some people' anyway? can't they be listed so we all know in numerical order. Meanest first...

Galaxy Thu 28-May-26 18:16:55

Yes that was very helpful.

SueDonim Thu 28-May-26 18:13:25

I’ve had no response to my email, either.

Thank you for the comment about the much-missed Callistemon. The scales have fallen from my eyes!

Oh dear.

What started as a thread about someone being banned for no obvious reason has become one about cliques and boats and factions/Mean Girls and so on.

FWIW, I understand all of that and why it's relevant, but if what we (as a collective force) want is to see Allira reinstated (as I do), then we have to ignore it and ask for a fair and objective system of moderation, so that everyone can understand what is acceptable on here and what isn't..

The focus here is Allira. Unusually consensus has broken out. I’ve seen no one criticising Allira, on the contrary she’s liked and respected

I’m very unhappy that Gransnet mods or whoever send a generic email in response to what must be a stream of emails in support . Allira must be reinstated. It’s like the Stasi

fancythat

I have ben away from this forum for nearly two weeks.
No real idea of what happened.
I have read this thread.

There was a post by someone from Gransnet HQ right at the beginning of this thread.

If there is a new CEO, if I was her, I would pull the plug on Gransnet if they get browbeaten by it.
It has always been a loss maker.

Tell contributers to just join Mumsnet if they wanted to. Make Mumsnet for all ages[which I assume it is already?].

MN is for all ages, and many of us post on both sites, but GN has a particular demographic which attracts particular advertising. The 'grey pound' is valuable, and if managed properly the site could be very profitable - do we know that it isn't?

I occasionally been lurking since I said goodbye to you all due to over- moderating. I will not receive any more of GN's unwelcome emails.
I am replying to Doodledog as I do want to say that I agree .

There is no personal animosity from the moderator as she is restricted by the invisible hand of the market . Gransnet is not a welfare charity.

Primrose53 Thu 28-May-26 17:30:05

Maybee70. Because it is a topic that Allira often contributed to!

Doodledog I desperately want Allira back! Obviously ignore it if you choose to.

I don’t associate Allira with political threads, though.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 28-May-26 17:08:47

If the banning was/is due to a post on one of the numerous migrant related threads, then Primrose53 has a valid point 🤷‍♀️

But who are these mean girls? if a group or a couple or more got a really nice even tempered, contributor banned just by the click of their thumbs shouldn’t we be knowing who they are so we can ask them personally why????
What could anyone have against any poster unless they were really rude and offensive on many occasions or were trolling them

Gransnet come out of hiding and talk to us like adults please This is not going to go away !

I know for a fact that there are, or have been, cliques on GN who orchestrate multiple reporting to get posters banned. I know this because many years ago I was included by mistake in the PMs discussing it. I thought it was awful, but the mean girls were targetting a controversial poster who you either loved or hated: long-standing members will know exactly who I mean. I was very much in the first camp, as it happened, but she sailed close to the wind so many times that she was bound to be banned eventually. Sadly, imho, and RIP.

But the point is that this is Allira, not a poster that people would ever gang up on. It’s telling that nobody on here has had a bad word to say about her. I recall the poster I mentioned earlier having public rebukes from GNHQ - these days everything’s done behind the scenes, so we don’t know what’s going on. A bit of transparency would be nice.

Maggiemaybe. I agree with you about the ganging up and I know for sure it goes on.

I have got to get this off my chest! Like myself and many others Allira says what she thinks about the migrant crisis/small boats issue. We are just ordinary, everyday people but we get carefully worded messages implying that we are racists, toxic, muddled, sensationalising etc etc. Yet I have never called any of these posters any kind of name and neither has Allira.

A clique on here are very pro migrants and that’s fine and their right but there is no need to call people who disagree horrible names or constantly report them to GN. It’s total lies and just very nasty.

Why on earth are you bringing the migrant issue into this?

MissAdventure Thu 28-May-26 16:42:48

Aveline

Why don't they take down this thread and quietly reinstate her?

Because the dreaded "some people" wouldn't accept that they'd not been kept informed, were being treated like children, deserved to know, were now too scared to post, etc.

Its not enough that hq know how strongly people feel, how sure they are that allira is genuine all round good egg.

Some people like to stir the pot and keep it going, i think.

Lathyrus as far as we all know Allira had had no previous warnings it came completely out of the blue.
Boom boom you’re banned for life.
Who reported her ?that’s the big question there is a snake amongst us obviously
calandergirl the only person on here I ve had trouble with was✈️👜 she was so nasty to me I was not sorry when she disappeared

Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply Allira had had any warnings.

Just that there is no consistent process. Nor are there opportunities for engagement to discuss any report as GN says there are.

It is arbitrary, depending I think on who at GN handles any given report.

Snake in the grass - as manifested by the hissing tambourine creating tension at the beginning of the Marvin Gaye classic
‘Heard it through the Grapevine’

I recently learned this in a Music Appreciation class
and thought I would share.
You all possibly knew this and just me who didn’t.

Are we under new management here?
Any poster complained about or reported maybe then
has a background check providing their IP address/es

@tinafl, we should count our blessings, being ignored is probs better than being noticed too much and then banned.
Maybe is better to fly beneath the radar.

Thanks for the response Fallingstar think I agree with you my head will stay behind the sofa😄
