I think the idea to be careful about speech is a really terrible idea. I understand what Petra is saying about people being cautious but I honestly think we should do the opposite.

I think that is what I was trying to say, if a little clumsily, earlier. Why should a poster stifle their style just because out there there is a certain poster or two who is going to take exception to it? Won't it be like treading on eggshells, whereas Allira's posts were a breath of fresh air, and like someone said before, lightened the mood when discussions become aggressive.
I know I've gone nowhere else on his site since last week because I'm being very cautious, so will a number of people just not post?

I suspect most removals are actually as a result of people making hurtful personal comments, rather than expressing their political views?

If I reported incitement the Trump threads would have gone be now.

Most of that is just fine and great questions.

But they have explained before that they cannot monitor every single post on every single thread and can only respond if someone or many someones report it.

It is necessary to be able to report that which is grossly hurtful and offensive to an individual GN, or in the politics bits are that which is actually illegal ie constitutes a hate crime/incitment to hate.

Particularly in the first instance, we could not have the protection we need for as mentioned many times above in threads where people are vulnerable and desperate and have summoned courage to ask for help etc etc.

We’ve heard from friends of banned posters that it comes out of the blue and is non-negotiable, which is at odds with what we hear from HQ. Obviously the full story can get lost along the way, but as the process is shrouded in mystery, it is difficult to know what to believe.

I realise that individual cases can’t be discussed, but a more open dialogue would be much appreciated, please, particularly around whether the person doing the reporting is taken into account when decisions are made (eg is it a lurker, or someone who is often involved in arguments?). Why do some people seem to get away with things for years, and others disappear at what appears to be a first offence? Is a system of reporting sensible given that many of us rarely, if ever report and others do so often? How can that ever be equitable? Answers to those sorts of questions would be very much appreciated, please.

I would like to endorse Doodledog's excellent post which I think clearly expresses the concerns that many of us have about the whole reporting and banning process. These concerns have been amplified by the banning of a poster who is one of the last people we'd expect to transgress in a way that deserved it.

Revisiting this thread first thing, thank you Annie for the welcome update. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a happier outcome and cautiously hopeful in seeing the reapperance of one of GN's favourite members. We're all missing her presence as this thread illustrates.

I don’t think GN realise what a bad taste in the mouth this decision has left some members with.
What I’ve read here and in PMs is that some members are going to be very wary of what they post, looking over their shoulder, over thinking what they’ve posted.
And then deciding not to post at all 🤷‍♀️

Yes Anniegransnet we as a group are very, very concerned about what appears to be the unfairness and speed of this banning with no prior warnings or indeed explanation as to what rule has been broken !!

I do hope you are investigating the reason behind any accusations as well as the reason for banning which we as a group (I think I speak for everybody) feel is acutely important

I realise your personal hands are tied, you are just a spokesperson, but the seriousness of taking someone’s support and friendship from under their feet in one swoop and seemingly for little ‘known’ reason is incredibly serious
