Busy with a lot of stressful stuff a.t.m. so taking time out this afternoon to sit under a tree in my garden and re- read one of my Philppa Gregory historical novels about the Tudors. They are familiar friends and take me away from my responsibilities into another world...

I have just started The Word Hord, a book about old english. It is a topic I am increasingly fascinated by and it has started very well.

Ps John Boyne is my favourite author !!

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy plus Katabasis by R.F.Kuang for some light relief. Enjoying both in their own individual ways.

Family lies by Karen Rose. Almost finished and looking forward to reading the fifth Thursday Murder Club which is sitting waiting.

The in death series by J D Robb. It's one of my favorate series as it builds as it progresses. I was put off before reading by someone saying it was set in the future, but its only by about 60 years if I remember right.

Oh, I love them too! Yes, as you say, they are set in the future - but they're not too 'sci-fi', if that makes sense.

I have recently read Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus (I laughed and cried!); Happy all the Time by Laurie Colwin and The Bulgari Connection by Fay Weldon. I couldn't put any of them down.

My all time favourite book is All Passion Spent by Vita Sackville West. Read several times now.

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. Recommend.

Re-reading Doctor Thorne (Anthony Trollope)

I am reading a biography of Antoine de Saint-Exupery. We went to a talk and a reading of it by the author, organised by the local Society of Friends of our (French) twin town. It turned out that the author is local to us, so it was a nice evening. I asked her if it would be availab!e in translation, but she said the estate of St-Ex had said it was to remain in German and in Germany. It does not always give a favourable view of him. I'm only making slow progress, having started it before the talk, and am still only 1/3 of the way through. I did break off to read a Ken Follett though.....

I am on the fourth book in a series written by Mark Dawson with Atticus Priest as the main character.

Luckygirl3, I feel fairly confident as it was my bookclub read this month. I am away at the moment and missed the meeting but wanted to read the book as they all seem to have enjoyed it and had a good discussion. Let me know 😊 (I am prepared to duck the rotten tomatoes coming my way if you hate it 😂).

Several of you have said that you will be spending some of the Bank Holiday reading your book in the sunshine ( or the shade. ) So what are you all reading and enjoying at the moment? I am reading " This book made me think of you " by Libby Page and really enjoying it. I shall be sorry to come to the end of it.

When I posted this I was interested to see what everyone is reading but I never expected to gain so many book suggestions from it so thank you for that and happy reading everyone!

Im reading Winter of the Wotld by Ken Follett, the second book in a series which started before the start of WW1. We are now upto WW2 . It's about families in Wales, England, Germany and Russia. Its a story with lots of historical facts.
Each book, I'm reading on my Kindle, is very long. There is one more in the series.
If you like history and a good story I would recommend this series.

After Ever After by Hannah Luckett which was recommended by a friend. I’m enjoying it so far. “A heartfelt novel of love, loss and starting over in a small French village”. The main character’s husband - who was somewhat older than her - has died and there’s some mystery she has to sort out in the French village where they used to live. He was French, she’s English.

Really enjoying Offshore by Penelope Fitzgerald about a group of differing people living on old Thames barges at Battersea Reach in the 1950s 60s before it was upmarket.
Penelope Fitzgerald also lived on the river Thames so her descriptions are very accurate and interesting. It won the Booker Prize in 1979
