I go to the hairdressers when I have a reason to get my hair cut, usually once every couple of years. That's it. I've got better things to spend my money on and better ways to spend my time.
Anyone else struggle with this?
I have hair appointments every six weeks - alternate ones are highlights. I have a pedicure every 6 weeks or so but that is all.
What do you have?
I wonder whether I don't think i am worth the cost and attention or am I just content with myself. What else should I consider?

O.M.G. there really are a lot of preening princesses out there! I dont mind the occasional spa visit (at (£34 a visit)for sauna, steam rooms etc.. But i colour hair myself or my Granddaughter does it, same for trims if i cant get a low-ish price haircut offer,(she is training for hair& beauty) And i do any other beauty regimes myself.I might get the very occasional pedicure or massage but only if i've been given birthday present money..My word there must be quite a bit of money spare in these times of rising costs.😁
Nannan2, This may, for a lot of us be the first time we have been entirely able to prioritise what we wish to/save up for or spend on ourselves! Years of putting our own needs to the back of the queue, if it feels good do it
Team Preen here! (Or actually team anything you want to do)
I cut my own hair, it’s a bit longer than shoulder length, with a messy fringed, and every few months I pull it into a high ponytail and chop a couple of inches off. It falls in layers and looks ok-ish loose, but I usually wear it twisted up in a claw clip. I did have it tidied by a hairdresser before DD’s wedding last year, it was cut professionally when I needed a new passport photo in 2018, and again, by coincidence rather than design, it was cut just before the first lockdown and just after the second. I really, really hate having it done!
However, I had BIAB nails done for DD’s wedding too, first time I’ve ever had them done, and they delight me so much I’ve carried on going every 3-4 weeks although it’s an expense I can’t justify!
Not sure if it counts as a beauty treatment but I’m going to rejoin the gym at my local retirement village. It’s not cheap compared to the leisure centre but the sauna is usually empty and I do worry about catching covid at the one at the leisure centre ( I still haven’t caught it). I do have a sauna blanket but I have to lie in it for ages for it to work and, unlike the gym sauna, I can’t get out of it and have a freezing cold shower. I don’t do much these days now that I can’t walk very well and don’t spend money on the cinema or theatre any more. I’ll also save on having showers at home. They also do eg chair Pilates classes. My physio does them in another village but there’s nowhere to park. It’s also near to my daughter’s house so I can go there when I’m house sitting. Really looking forward to rejoining!
Nothing puritanical from me. Its like everything, you can have too much of a good thing and most of us know someone whose pursuit of treatments that will make them look younger, is frankly pathetic, the clock will keep ticking, regardless of what you do to yourself.
But if you enjoy a treatment, even if you just enjoy the pampering, why not? The killjoys obviously get their pleasure from sneering at other people. leave them to it, sneering and disapproval does make unecessary lines on ones face.
Nothing much. Cut my own hair as and when. Whatever cream is reduced in home bargains.
Haircut every 4-6 weeks.
Balayage every 3 months - no overall colour.
Moisturise and factor 50, lippy.
Daily exercise, walk miles and miles daily.
I do pedicure for myself, every nicely. Pretty colours.
I'm a "preening princess" At 77 I can do what I want, when I want and I'm fortunate to have the money to spend on myself. It hasn't always been like that!
I have my hair coloured every 4 weeks and cut every 8 weeks. I dye my own brows, do my own nails and do my own pedicures. I am a member at a gym which also gives me monthly access to the spa and I do weights and pilates to keep myself strong and supple.
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned having any "tweakments" but having seen the censorious comments on similar threads, I guess they prefer to keep it to themselves but I'm prepared to share! I have a chemical brow lift every 4 months ie botox that gives a subtle but definite improvement to my eyes. It keeps them more open, significantly less "hooded" and reduces the crows feet. I also have skin boosters every 6 months which really improve the skin on my face, it's basically hydration from within and not fillers. I didn't start having any "work" done until I was in my 70's and tbh I really wish I'd started earlier. I go to a medically qualified person and it costs far less than the average holiday and gives me a real boost. For me, it's money well spent, others might see it as vanity. If that's what you think , do me a favour and keep it to yourself as, frankly, I don't give a damn! I'm posting because some people might be interested.
Well done you foxie48 👏👏👏
I have been considering some tweakments I need to make my mind up.
MayBee70 I consider my gym membership as an investment in my personal rather than a luxury.
I have been a member at the same gym for nearly 30 years, and go a minimum of three times a week.

Gosh, what a variety of replies.
Like many I have my short hair trimmed every 6 weeks and dark streaks in my original colour put back in between the grey, applied with a sort of paintbrush. The hairdresser laughed when I told her it was called salt and pepper in English; she thought it was very apt.
I also have my toenails done every 6 weeks. I always make the next appointment immediately and try to organise it so that I have both done on the same day so as not to break up the week too much.
I enjoy a massage if we go to a spa, but I hate the sauna.
I have often wondered about getting a facial - haven't had one for years - but I would like to be sure it was someone who knew how to treat my 71 year old face appropriately.
Have been trying to get my fingernails to grow and look decent since I was about 11, so I wouldn't let a beautician even look at them. I hide them carefully when I go to pay the hairdresser and the girl who does my toes.
The nicest part about these appointments is the chat and the cameraderie. I have known my hairdresser since before my youngest was born (1988). The treatments are just a necessary measure.

My advice is don't leave it too late, go to a properly qualified person (preferably on recommendation) and take advice. I don't expect to look younger or different but I do look as if I've had a good nights sleep and am awake, my make up goes on more smoothly and I have a glow. Other women often remark on my skin and I am completely open about having skin boosters but I do also follow a regular skin regime with decent products. The botox just stops the incremental droop of my eyelids, it doesn't change anything , I just look like me. I think some people don't appreciate how subtle "tweakments " can be and confuse them with the obviously false, overdone faces that are shown on fb etc. Absolutely not the same thing!
Lifehouse in Thorpe le Soken? I'm not far from there.

Yes, that’s the one 👍🏻
Haircut every six weeks, that's about it .
A dry hair trim about every 3 months.
That is it for outside intervention! I colour my own hair, use a bit of nail varnish now and then etc.
