Where's the yogurts

Everytime I go shopping it's the same, the search for a fruit yogurt. I find the flippy ones, protein ones, ones for cholesterol but just no tart tangy ones

Did you notice the sugar content shoppingirl?

I've bought those and no, I didn't!

I'd avoid anything with artificial sweeteners though.

I don't eat much yoghurt but when I do it's Yeo Valley, Rachel's or River Cottage. It has to be organic. Of course the sugar content is important but far more so, at least to me, is what's been happening to the dairy cows that produce it.

Hard to find full fat yogurs or cottage cheese. The others are processed I thimk.

I miss the good old fashioned yogurts, 70’s style. No fancy syrups, sprinkles, chocolate rubbish etc. same with ice cream. I’m insulin dependent, but even prior to that I wanted lower sugar, not ‘removed sugar’ or low fat for that matter!! I think I’ll take advice from here and add fresh fruit to a good old plain yogurt.

Oykos, yes I agree * Jaxjacky* delicious.

I like them all but my favourite is Peach, was lemon a limited edition we bought it a couple but haven’t seen them for a while.

Yes, Rachel's too - if you can find them.

I used to like Langage Farm yogurt (it was local to us years ago before we moved) but haven't seen any for some time.

I was brought up to yogurt since I was 8 yrs of age.
As we lived near Dover and my father spoke French he would take us across to France where he enjoyed the French cheese, for me ‘The Laughing Cow soft cheese and Danone yogur, one of the only main yogurts in those days when there were no fruit yogurts.
I now love to have a yogurt every day usually the Algo sugar free yogurt.

Sainsbury's Taste the Difference yogurts are good. I like the lemon one. It's very tangy. The honey and ginger is tasty too. Other fruit flavours are available in the Taste the Difference range.

I go lactose free and Alpro Coconut yogurt is my favourite and yummy.
I don't mind the sugar content. It's artificial sweeteners I want to avoid.
I eat it with different fruits.

Another vote for Yeo Yoghurts. The lemon one is delicious, if you like lemon but I noticed cream was added, so I ration myself!

Does anyone remember Ski Yogurts? Very exotic in the 1960s.

Pinkhousegirl Mon 18-May-26 18:20:13

nearly all the flavoured /protein/lo-fat ones are full of thickeners and way too much sugar. M & S particularly bad, but I think all their food is over-processed, designed to remove what little confidence the UK had in its culinary ability!

Biscuitmuncher..where are you in the country ? If you go to Longley farm website it gives you a map of all areas it's sold in, all over the country, not just here in Yorkshire.

Longley farm use to be sold in homebargains. I loved the cottage cheese with chives. Cheap as chips!

I’m not a fan of fruit yogurts , too much sugar . I have Fage Greek yogurt and add fruit or nuts to it. Or any authentic Greek yogurt.

Apparently Lidls Greek yogurt is supposed to be the best.

Lidl Greek style natural yoghurt is excellent.

I can’t understand why anyone would buy a flavoured yoghurt, it’s so easy to add fruit, honey, coconut etc.

The tart, tangy ones are up around Holmfirth / Huddersfield - the Longley farm lemon yoghurts are to die for.
Sadly, I haven't lived in that area for many years, and can no longer find any near to where I live now.

Longley Farm yoghurts are lovely. Ditto the cottage cheese. I never liked it until I discovered Longley Farm’s, and now I’m addicted. smile

I buy a natural yogurt now and just add my own ‘whatever’ if you put fresh or frozen berries in the microwave for a bit and add it can make it tarty

Greek yoghurt works well with fresh or frozen berries..And a drip of honey..Yummy.

We get Longley Farm yoghurts and cottage cheese in Morrisons here in North Notts. Fage plain yoghurt is also good with added fresh fruit and raw honey if you feel a need for some sweetening.

Is nobody making their own? I believe its do-able with or without a slow cooker. I make butter too and may try cheese!
Or just keep eating the "addictive" ones that nobody reads the ingredients of ?

NotSpaghetti Tue 19-May-26 00:50:19

dlizi4 I'm sure lots of us can make our own yogurt and lots of us do read ingredients!
And which are "addictive" ones anyway?

We have both reading ingredients and making our own yogurt, kefir, and occasionally soft cheese since the 1970s. We won't be the only ones...

But there's no use making small quantities in my opinion (especially kefir).
So... like other people, (and as there aren't 7 of us anymore) we can afford to buy Yeo Valley or similar natural yogurt.
We still make kefir.

We don't sweeten either our kefir or yogurt but know our grandchildren like a sweeter yogurt - served with fruit and, if needed, a little maple syrup or honey.

Just because we can do something doesn't mean we "ought to".

I eat Fage yogurt every morning, have done for years and have never had any difficulty finding it in the supermarkets until now. My local Sainsbury has been out of stock of it for the last couple of weeks, I picked up two pots in another branch yesterday but there were only half a dozen on the shelf. Very odd.

Longley Farm plain yoghurt has two ingredients, milk and live yoghurt cultures. The flavoured ones have added fruit and unrefined fairtrade cane sugar.

I did make my own though back in the day. I probably still have that yoghurt maker at the back of a cupboard. Tbh it didn’t taste anywhere near as good as theirs.

I've been making our own with just milk and 'starter' saved from the last batch, though replaced every so often with half a carton of Yoe live natural. The only equipment needed is a pan, a thermometer and a large vacuum flask to maintain the temperature while it thickens.

But OH is the yoghurt-eater in the house and he's just announced that he isn't keen on it and wants to go back to using Faje.

I buy Oykos fruit yoghurts, Tesco.

Me too, they are delicious.
