LIGHTHEARTED THREAD 😆

That wonderful Bulgarian song won Eurovision last night, (I went to bed before the result), and there's a great word to describe the present chaotic world situation.

Bangaranga!!!!! Meaning commotion or disturbance.

The staging was brilliant, probably not far off a cabinet meeting scenario! Well done Dara! (Wasn't there a Dana who won once too!)

We, the UK, came bottom, with un point ! That just about sums things up!

Bangaranga!!!!

I gave up watching it years ago. Too silly and too political just spoiled it for me.

FGT same here, haven't watched it for years

We had such a good and successful song from Sam Ryder four years ago why on earth did this song which was
complete garbage get through.

Sam Ryder was guest performer on Britain's Got Talent last night, with a song from Tim Rice's and Andrew Lloyd-Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar
Amazing voice, and such emotion. Worth a look. A million miles better than our UK singer this year.

I wasnt going to watch, but someone wanted me to watch it with them.
Wouldnt have had the Bulgaria one as the winner.

Ours was rubbish.
I decided people I know could have done it better.

I thought this was a lighthearted thread! There's no point reminiscing about Katie Boyle and Terry Wogan, there was some rubbish in those days too. Remember Diggy-Loo Diggy-Ley or similar nonsense? It's a fun competition and this year's winner has been a big star in Bulgaria for about 10 years so she probably deserves her win.

We have plenty of established pop stars but they don't want to enter so we have to rely on relative unknowns for our entries so unless we can find another Sam Ryder we're never going to get on the left hand side of the scoreboard.

As was the UK song! What possessed them to choose that group and that stupid song?

People seem to ask the same question every year Oreo.

No, we came second in 2022 and would have come first but for the sympathy vote.

Allira Sun 17-May-26 10:57:10

Yes, Ukraine gave us a pity point😄

Oh, it was Ukraine, was it.

Thank you, but you really didn't have to. We would have quite understood if it was nul points!

Allira Sun 17-May-26 10:53:58

I watched a bit towards the end where they performed snippets of each winning song over the years ! and started to watch the voting but gave in and went to bed before the viewers' votes.

So far have not heard the winning song; the Australian one was much better than some over recent years and back to what it was all about years ago - a good song well sung rather than who can be the most outrageous.

The voting is political, yes, that is why Ukraine won in 2022, the UK second with Sam Ryder.

This year's UK entry was an embarrassment.

Just listened to the winner on Youtube - oh dear ... so bland.

Pity McCartney is not drafted in - now he knows how to write a song ....

I watched it on I player this morning ,a very Euro type song , I remember back in the early 70`s when out in the then West Germany Bjorn ,Benny , Anna and Freda doing Ring ,ring on BFBS ,I brought the single as it was catchy in a nearby Dutch town.
The only other time was a few months after they had Eurovision at Harrogate, I stayed in the Crown Hotel at the time when it was run by THF, and some of staff showed me pictures of some of the acts who appeared as some stayed in the hotel at the time .

I liked Malta but the singer had bad diction - or was that my hearing problem? I won't bother to watch it anymore. It was just a wall of the same noise and staged chaos. But then again, I am not under 60 so don't really understand the modern appeal. Back to my bedtime book!

It was Ukraine, sassenach. Unfortunately our dire entry couldn’t get weeded out before the final, saving us the embarrassment. We get an automatic entry due to the fact that we’re one of the top funders of the whole shebang. Wrong on so many levels, imho!

I think the UK, France and Germany automatically go through to the finals because of their involvement with Eurovision.

Fallingstar Sun 17-May-26 09:36:22

I don’t watch Eurovision. The last time we watched was when Sir Tel did the commentary and tbh it was his commentary that kept us watching.
I know the UK are founding members or some such thing and therefore will always take part but I think it is high time we stopped participating.

sassenach512 Sun 17-May-26 09:26:48

Anyone know who took pity on us and gave us a point?
I'd like to know who decided that idiotic song was good enough to represent the UK and how it didn't get booted off in the semi finals, it was dire

Oreo Sun 17-May-26 09:07:27

It’s mainly rubbish now it’s true.
Only three songs were any good imo, Italy, Israel and Australia.
All came in the first five, but the Eastern European song was awful.

MayBee70 Sun 17-May-26 09:00:38

I’ve always loved it but refused to watch it last night. I did listen to the winning song on utube, though. and it just sounded like a generic version of every Eastern European song there’s ever been but not as good as many of them.

Cossy Sun 17-May-26 08:57:40

Kandinsky

It was good years ago.
Now it’s just a big LGBT party and verging on soft porn.
Why we keep bothering with it god only knows.

Because it’s fun and people enjoy themselves and what difference does it make that LBGT folk enjoy it too?

I agree though it’s far far away from the original Song for Europe, like everything else in our world it’s evolved into something else entirely, but personally I like to see people party and enjoying themselves though the voting is an utter farce thanks

Luckygirl3 Sun 17-May-26 08:55:34

I am so glad I am not the only one who hates it!

Luckygirl3 Sun 17-May-26 08:54:52

I do not keep bothering with it! It used to be a bit of innocent fun. It is now noisy nonsense each country trying to be more outrageous than the other rather than producing a good song.
Remember Sandy Shaw in here bare feet?

fancyflowers Sun 17-May-26 08:38:50

I haven't watched it for years. It used to be entertaining, with some great songs (i.e. Abba) but I don't bother with it now.
