Can’t settle

Lately I’ve found that if I’m due to do something in the afternoon or even , I can’t settle to anything, am like a cat on hit bricks counting down until the time I have to get ready and go. Is anyone else like this? I never used to be like it.

Same

Absolutely, know what you mean! What I do to stop doing this now is in the morning I'm up ridiculously early I write a long list of all my chores and new ideas. Everyday I have a new idea. 🙂

Peaseblossom Fri 15-May-26 14:07:38

Yes unfortunately and I've always been like it.

Bazza Fri 15-May-26 14:04:29

Yet another one of the delights of getting older!

WithNobsOnIt Fri 15-May-26 14:01:08

Yes l also am a bit like that and have got worse since l got older. I think it maybe mire common than people let on.

Sometimes, I think it may be rooted in some kind of deeply rooted, subconscious anxiety and annoyance about life.

Aspects we have little control over.

We would rather be doing something else more pleasurable

Rocketstop2 Fri 15-May-26 13:51:52

Yes, me too, exactly the same. Annoying isn't it ? !

knspol Fri 15-May-26 13:51:22

Thought it was just me, so glad it's not!
If I have to go anywhere on an afternoon or evening I spend all day deciding what to wear, what time to get ready and basically fretting about whatever/wherever. Never ever used to be like this and wonder like others if it's just because of too many empty hours with nothing else to think about. Feel better for knowing I'm not on my own.

Babsbada Fri 15-May-26 13:40:18

Yep that's me too!

I have a 81 year old sister-in-law like that. Thursday morning is her usual shopping day, driven by my brother. Yesterday, Thursday, she was having her usual home hairdresser visit at 4
pm so shopping had to be cancelled. My brotger tried on Wednesday to convince her they could still go to the supermarket as per usual but no, had to be changed to Friday a.m. Drives him mad!

Essexgirl145 Fri 15-May-26 13:35:37

Now you mention it, I've been like that for a while, perhaps it's about living in the moment and no looking t far ahead. It's probably normal so don't worry.

ClicketyClick Fri 15-May-26 09:01:31

I'm the same. Like today I am seeing a solicitor after lunch and know I won't get a thing done this morning for fretting over the appointment and if the bus arrives late for getting me there on time. So I'll be catching an early bus and killing time by still continually fretting in a cafe in town .

Yes I'm the same and am what my DMiL called being previous
It's probably due to having too much time to worry.

Exactly. We had busy lives. Our brains were working on what we were doing that day.
If you were working and had a dental appointment in the afternoon you would still get on with your work. You wouldn’t be fidgeting and fretting.

Sickofweddingcake Fri 15-May-26 08:40:59

I had to be at an important appointment, one hour's drive away, yesterday.
I was an hour early!
I hate being late...

fancythat Fri 15-May-26 08:31:26

fancythat

I have always been like this.
Part of the reason I am a bit loathe to go out in the evenings. I just wouldnt get anything done!

For me, it is energy.
I dont have a whole heap of it.
So if I am out in the evening, I need to "save" some energy during the day, to cope.

Cid24 Fri 15-May-26 08:24:25

Isn’t it odd! And VERY annoying!

I’m sure it’s since retirement there’s more time to fret

When I was about to retire, I said to a colleague that once I left work, 90% of my worries would disappear.

Her reply?

“You’ll still find something to worry about, Calendar”.

How right she was!

Story of my life! When I look back I don’t know how my late DH put up with me for thirty-five years!🤦‍♀️

Erica23 Fri 15-May-26 06:25:40

Oh yes I’m like this too and DH even worse than me. We’ve been up since 5am just because we have to pick the DGC up from school at 3pm 😂

Macaydia Fri 15-May-26 04:10:26

I am the same ! I thought it was just me.

I think we are on to something here. Late-age anxiety?

Fallingstar Thu 14-May-26 23:12:44

I also faff about when I know I have to go somewhere. If it’s in the morning I don’t sleep very well the night before, if it’s in the afternoon I do a lot of unnecessary housework that I can’t complete satisfactorily, and if it is in the evening the whole day is wasted.
I thought it was just me 🙄

Nannee49 Thu 14-May-26 22:11:04

Absolutely. I was never like this but with less to fill my time now - as you say since retirement Cid24 - I find I get agitated even when it's something pleasurable like going out to lunch. Too much empty head space I think.

Cid24 Thu 14-May-26 22:01:34

Cossy Thu 14-May-26 13:37:52

Yes! It didn’t used to bother me so much, but I always hated being late, now I’m ready and set to leave hours in advance, it’s driving me nuts!
