Have been musing about coffee this morning, not the good stuff but instant coffee, but a really enjoyable one.I’m going to buy something later on today and am always hoping to find a better one than the last one I bought.
The coffee in the rest room at work is always poor quality so I will start taking my own in with me.
It needs to be one with caffeine. What can you recommend?

I get Ringtons tea from the man in the van and it is the best tea by a country mile. We aren't big coffee drinkers but have one occasionally and their instant coffee is equally good. Visitors also comment on how nice it is too.

With you there. Have you tried their apple pie biscuits? Yum

I do not like coffee but DH, who is a bit fussy has switched to Aldi's own Alcafe, which he says he can tell the difference but likes it. (It also appeals to his meannest because it is half the price of the named brands and far less than the other cheaper supermarket brands

Cardamom

It definitely does MissAdventure; it's like watching magic! grin

Yes, i didn't believe it myself until i tried it.
I used a tiny whisk thing, so it took a while, but it turned into a sort of caramel gloop. smile

Small things please small minds, so it's said, but it took me back to my bunking off school days.

Kenco Smooth is very nice. It's also responsibly sourced.

You can Google on YouTube & ask best instant coffees. It will give you the worst six & at least three of the best coffees.
I did one on water. Highland spring came out the best. Some of the worst was smart water, Perrier, (Voss which I buy) Nestle pure. Inferior filtration.

Well you can but I prefer the old fashioned personal recommendation 😃 brew

MissAdventure Wed 13-May-26 14:50:01

That's the one!
It works, too.

I was sceptical about trying this but, to my astonishment, it actually does make the most amazing coffee creme.

4 tablespoons of instant coffee (preferably powdered but granules will work)
2 tablespoons of hot water
Granulated sugar to taste

Put all ingredients into a tallish jug and with a stick blender keep whizzing it all together until a pale, thick, creamy consistency is achieved. It should be thick enough that you can scoop spoonfuls up and they stay in shape. It's fab if you heat a mug of warm milk and stir a few spoonfuls in to make a latte. Or a spoonful over ice cream. You can store it for a week or so if kept in the fridge but if it starts to fall flat, just whizzing it up again.

I used to use Nescafe Alta Rica, the only instant I found that tasted nearly like real coffee, but now only drink ground coffee, Lavazza Espresso made in an Aeropress is almost as simple as a cup of instant.

I posted a long while back a method of using just instant coffee and hot milk, and making the kind of "frothy coffee" cafes used to serve.

I think I'm on the road towards "Mellow Birds", which my mum liked and we teased her about. blush
I used to love a strong coffee, but I'm gradually going off it.

I suppose its not bad thing; i used to drink about 12 or more a day.

Basgetti Wed 13-May-26 11:31:16

Fair enough. I only drink Americano, no froth.

MissAdventure Tue 12-May-26 17:47:17

I don't like Costa coffee very much.
Loads of froth, followed by tepid milk, then bitter dregs in the bottom of it.

Mollygo Tue 12-May-26 17:35:44

That explains it Basgetti. He rejected Costa too.

That’s so true.
If we started a thread on best brand bottled water it would probably run just as well.

NB In a burst of economy drive, DH said he should try ALDI and Lidl own brand coffee.
He disliked Aldi’s so much he never tried Lidl, but some must find it OK as it keeps being sold.

I find it really good, tastes like Costa. Each to their own.

Just an observation: not a criticism at all! The problem with these type of questions is you get snowed under by lots of personal preferences which, of course, may not be to the taste of the OP. As a coffee drinker myself I have tried most of the varieties suggested but my palate and preferences mean of course that some I like and some I detest. I guess we all have to be willing to try until we find what we do like. Be sure though that the coffee you regularly drink and like will repel someone else.
There is always water I suppose.
Still or sparkling?

Haha, very true, but I don’t mind trying a lot and hopefully will find at least three that I like.
The Alta Rica is very nice and now I have the Azera, which I actually don’t like all that much but DP does, we do indeed all have different tastes.

MadAsAHatter Tue 12-May-26 09:10:52

Nescafé Alta Rica is a very smooth drink

Just started using London Nootropics. Wonderful taste and made of mushrooms I believe.

MissAdventure Sat 09-May-26 13:11:01

I used to like Red Mountain.
I wonder if I'd still like it now.
