The State Banquet

The Duchess of Gloucester did indeed look elegant at the State Banquet.
This has reminded me of the day, probably about 1974, when I was standing outside the Town Hall in Chester, waiting to cross the road.
Suddenly a young couple were standing next to me. It was the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. The Duchess's leg was bandaged. She had recently had her first baby.

I well remember the Duchess of Gloucester having her first baby, as my first baby was born around the same time.

Her baby needed special care, can’t remember why, and the News report said it didn’t matter whether you were royalty or not, the anxiety for the parents would be the same.

The baby, a boy, recovered well, and is the Earl Of Ulster, married with his own family, I think.

I just want to say what a really lovely link, and thank you for the photos.

Mme Macron dresses well. Catherine always looks good but her red outfit isn’t one I’d like to see her in again. The Queen has good stylists. I often think she’d rather be in wellies digging her garden or walking a dog or three

I was listening to an old rocker talking on Irish radio today. He said in passing "I was having afternoon tea in the Shelbourne Hotel". It made me smile.

I agree, not sure why but red just isn’t her colour.

You can tell that the Florist has been changed .. Queen Elizabeth always had a central LOW flower arrangement and now its a bushy untidy shrub where you can see over and cant talk to anyone ... I know King Charles likes to stir things up but really ?

suzieque66 the table is enormous so I don't think yelling across at the guest opposite would be quite the done thing. Speak to your left first course and right for the second. Seeing as I am so well versed in Royal table maners I can't think why I've not been invited.

The D of G is slim and elegant, but it was her beautiful matching jewellery that caught my eye.

I thought Catherine’s gown was not the best I’ve seen her, the red looked a bit harsh somehow.

Absolutely but I recommend scaping them into one's wine glass and slurping them.

I read that at the dinner the government gave the Macrons at some embassy, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester represented the King as they often do on similar occasions.
They are obviously very well thought of by the Royal Family, a very safe pair of hands.

My FIL used to go on about MJ being a long haired layabout and he once threw his slippers at the TV when MJ was on.

Yes l lived with that generation of fathers who hated long haired,layabout rock stars
