Adult DD ran off upset....

Well I’m quite concerned that she looks after children on her own as well and the parents fine with her not being able to act in an emergency.

And that she wants to become self employed. So without insurance. No certificate, no insurance.

The whole idea is flawed.

Not to mention not understanding National Insurance ……

Its a concern that she can't act in an emergency with a child. Its essential she can do this for the safety of the child. Knowing what to do is very different to carrying the action out.

If this causes her discomfort I'm surprised she can manage all the other things involved such as general day to day care of children, lifting, changing and at times moving quickly to catch a child or prevent an accident. Things she would definitely have to do if she set up on her own.

I have worked in childcare all my life and would not consider this safe for the children.

So she's in a job she doesn't like, that she's not qualified to do and quite probably won't be able to obtain the correct qualifications. Well that opens a can of worms. From being reported to the Local Authority to expensive and stressful litigation. Quite apart from putting the children in her care in the direct line of physical injury.

Nobody's NI contributions "run out". That's complete nonsense. Free NHS care is based on residency not NI contributions.

I'd be gently advising her to take some advice and look for a different. more self-rewarding line of work that suits her skills and capabilities. Many of us have physical or mental challenges that stop us doing certain types of jobs. That's life unfortunately. Play as well as you can with cards you are dealt with.

Too many misconceptions about NHS/NI, the necessity of basic professional requirements and sadly a “head in the sand” attitude. Why did D “run off” anyway? What was that meant to achieve?

You keep commenting that " it isn't her fault that she has RA" nobody has said it is BUT, it is her responsibility to the children she looks after to be fit to practice, she doesn't seem to be making much effort in finding out what she can do to help herself, but you are both locked into a blame cycle that it is everyone else who has a problem with her . Get her to start taking the reins , get help from people who can help, The RA association has a UK website with some information that might be helpful and a telephone number to speak to someone.

I do not understand why she is not doing more to help herself. There are a number of agencies and charities who could give her help and advice and seems that neither OP nor her daughter has used them.

It is possible to access special disability services through her local Jobs Centre. Job Centres have access to specialist advisors who can help someone like OP's DD find a sutiable profession and study for it.

I hope that you are reassured about NI and access to health services. That's one less worry. There are lots of suggestions here to help your daughter and I hope things work out for her in the end.

OP has been posting for the last few years so will likely return.

She does not like the job and is not capable of doing it, so i would think it is time to leave. The job centre could help with jobs she would be capable of doing.

If i was leaving a little one in nursery I would want all staff to be qualified.

I think the OP probably hasn’t got the answers/support she anticipated?

However, I must agree with posters who are concerned about her ability to care for little people and support those who say this is a chance for your DD to do something different - something she’d enjoy, within her physical limitations. I’m sure she could get help and possibly training through the job centre.

DD2 is a wheelchair user - being a pilot would be impossible! Doing DD1’s job on a building site would also be impossible.
After Uni and some retail work, DD2 is happy and has a successful career in banking.
My friend’s son developed MS. As a chef, he couldn’t work around sharp knives and kitchen spills.

I’m afraid it’s a case of horses for courses.

You still have to make NI and income tax contributions if self employed, there may be a minimum amount you earn below which you are exempt - I'm not sure.
You say she wants to start her own nursery and needs this qualification but cannot get it because her RA is too severe? Is she chasing rainbows?
Is her arthritis bad enough for her to be on benefits?

I'm not sure about the limitations of RA - but the PFA cert is actually quite easy going and passive.
It's mostly talking (or should I say listening) with a few mins floor work - it's not really heavy going apart from a few short chest compressions on a child sized dummy, and putting someone in a recovery postion.
It can be 6 hours online +6 hours face-2-face.
If your daughter can work with children daily the the FA should be quite doable in all honesty.
