When did you last meet somebody new?

I met someone new Monday of this week.
I’ve just moved to a new area and would like to meet new people with the hope of us becoming friends. So I added a post on the local facebook community forum asking if anyone fancied meeting up for a cuppa or glass of wine.
Have met some lovely ladies so far, also met a couple of ladies that were nice but not my kind of friends.

I see quite a few people regularly at church and at choirs that I only know by sight, and occasionally chat with, but I am determined to get to know some of them more in the coming months. I have already met up with one for coffee and must invite her back. A potential new friend.
Most of my friends are old friends that I rarely see, but we keep in contact. It is all too easy to feel isolated on a local level.

I don’t find making friends/joining clubs etc easy, and have recently retired, the majority of my friends I’ve known 25 years and one couple 50 years and I’m happy with them and whilst I wouldn’t rebuff any overtures of friendship I’m not actively seeking new ones

Every day

Practically every week! I belong to WI, got to a PT gym, attend my local church and go to classes at a local over 50s college. My life is full of lovely people, old friends and new.

Today at our u3a quarterly meeting. I joined u3a and am now on the committee and meet new folk nearly every week, plus have made lots of new friends

As women, we are lucky to be wired to make friends relatively easily, and chat with other women, even if we have nothing in common other than being female. Men, on the other hand, don't manage to get beyond small talk unless they have something in common.

I won't go on to expand on how easy it is for them to abandon us to a group of women just because we are female, so that they can pursue their blokey interests..

there are ideas of putting your requests 'out there' ive often been sceptical of such things. around 2 months ago, i realised that i no longer had any real friends as they either moved away etc, i put requests out there,ive recently made 2 new contacts which may lead to more, funny old world......

Getting beyond nodding acquaintance to friendship is not always easy.

I volunteer on courses for people caring for someone living with dementia. The classes will typically have 10-15 participants and last 5 weeks so I often meet new people.

I joined a painting group in U3A a year or so ago and met a nice group of like minded people. Not so much new people, but a group of us have started going for coffee after our Tai Chi sessions, which means an hour of non stop talking.

We’ve just returned from a cruise with approximately 3,000 other passengers from all over the world, but normally we don’t meet many new acquaintances. I don’t think I’d be confident enough to do a solo cruise, unfortunately, but lots of people do. Volunteering is definitely a good way to make new friends.

I had a new carer start on Tuesday, nice lady and today while dusting she saw a photo of my husband and was quite elated as turns out she knew him as he and her grandad were friends and business associates. Amazing coincidence as she only really moved back to this area recently but she remembers my husband well as he always used to give her a fiver, yes he would I can imagine. Would having a friend request on Facebook count if so I’ve met two new people this week 🥰

Please, please be cautious with friend requests on Facebook.
Very often, if they are unknown to you, they are scammers.
Even if the name is one which you recognise, it may still be a scammer who has stolen the name.
I always check with the person if their name is known to me, and usually find they have been hacked and did not make the friend request themselves. Be very careful until you have proof of who these new Facebook friends are.

I am very wary of making new friends. My last friend (over 35 years) really insulted me and I then found out she had been making advances to my husband too! 'friends' have let me down badly over the years and I no longer seek them, acquaintances are are far as I am prepared to go now.

I've recently joined a ChairYoga group and the instructor and other participants have been very welcoming. After the hour session we have half an hour natter time

When I retired a year ago I joined our local Over 50's group. We meet once a month and go on a monthly trip

I have just returned from a week’s Arts related holiday with a group of whom I knew perhaps 6 quite well, another 18-20 by name or by sight from our monthly meetings and the rest (6) not at all beforehand.
We mixed, learned each others’ names, chatted over drinks and dinner or shared a table for a cuppa in a NT house or garden.

In our city you can find 11 daily activity clubs ( for retired people ) within a radius of 3 miles, accessible with bicycle.
The management of these centers are professionals financed by municipality. I run a German course myself. Mainly I am playing table tennis. You surely can meet a lot of new friends (or enemies in chess sections ). Table tennis can as well be played outdoors at ten locations ( concrete tables with steel nets , very loud ) - but useful in covid times,. TT already can be played in local community houses .

A nice lady has welcomed me to the exercise class. I only know her first name and find it hard to think of anything to say!
The other group I joined go for coffee afterwards but again I don't know them well and don't see them until the next week. They are all old friends.
