Does anyone else have a passion for Teapots - or anything else 😄

The first photo shows our trusty everyday teapot (we have more than one now, in case of breakages). It makes the best cup of tea out of any teapots I have had. Many of you may recognise the Marks and Spencer Harvest design. I was married in 1989 and I think Harvest was the set of choice for a very large number of people who were married between around 1985-1995. Either Harvest or Eternal Beau.
The second photo is part of my kitchen window display.

I like teapots and do have some on display but l wouldn’t consider myself to be a collector of them. I have my everyday teapots as l think tea tastes better when made in a pot. I have several sets of china inherited from my grandmother but my collection has been the Royal Worcester Months of the Year and Days of the Week figurines of children designed by an artist called Freda Doughty. They are nostalgic, fifties style children and, as a child of the Ladybird books era with their beautiful illustrations, they are of a similar type. They are not in fashion at the moment but l like them, as does my mother, which is all that matters

what a fantastic thread!!! I love copper cooking pots, I just cannot bear to leave beautiful examples on ebay!!! I do think they have been undervalued and prices are picking up now But I have got rather a lot. My husband says I have too many & packed some up to put in storage but he has forgotten where so I have to start all over again buying more!!!

I have a bit of a thing about egg cups being chickens. It reminds us. I've got some beauts. old lustre, french fience, Staffordshire...cant resist when I see.

As a small child I remember when the green pyrex came out and my mum got the whole tea service and some dinner plates. Over the years they disappeared and got broken and nicer china took its place . However I still had until fairly recently a green pyrex dinner plate that had travelled the world with me. I took it to Portugal and Syria when I lived there. It was still used to make apple pies etc and could go in the oven and then onto the table. My mother gave my sister and I one each when we left home and mine has been used from bedsits to flats and houses. Memories of much of my life were locked up in that green pyrex!! I always loved fine white china or white with a very little decoration on it. Champagne taste but beer money! I bought a great dinnerservice in lovely Rosenthal china when it was discontinued pattern., and my son was about 2 years old. There used to be surprised gasps when I gave him his food on this china and it was suggested he should have plastic, but as I said if you use plastic and it bounces he will think that china does too and why should he have horrid plastic when we had china? In actual fact the only thing that ever got broken was the lid from the sugar bowl and I broke that. That china has lasted me for years and years and still gives pleasure now!

I have a dresser in the kitchen full of small jugs. Been collecting them for years and they are much admired.

I have also collected studio pottery for many years and every so often I go through it and sell a bit and treat myself to something nice.

I used to collect antique and vintage jugs too, they're so pretty. sadly now I live in a modern flat and don't know what to do with them. I've also got a lovely Mason's dinner service but no dining room, as well as beautiful crystal glasses - though I think I will still use the glassware.

A friend of mine is a collector of teapots, she has about 150 now 😱
Shelving from floor to ceiling in one room, and display cabinets everywhere in the house. Looks ridiculous!

I have a few teapots, but rarely use them. But my passion is blue and white china. Can't resist a pretty plate. I use some every day. Also Bristol blue etched glass and pale blue pressed glass from early 1900s.

Teapots and kitchenalia generally are very popular with collectors because they are both decorative and useful. Americans love them. Unfortunately anything made from pottery, china or glass is an added hastle for international shipping.

She had the study filled with shelves where she could put the umpteen teapots she got every Christmas from the family.

My husband had the same problem with pig ornaments. As soon as friends knew he liked pigs, he was given them from everyone each Christmas. He can't the sight of pig ornaments any more 🤣🤣🤣

Apparently I have two separate hobbies. Crafting and collecting materials for crafting.

PPS: the small green temari at the bottom of the first photo was made by Minibaggs when she was ten. To go towards a scout badge, I seem to remember.

My poor old mother in law. Someone got her a lovely novelty type teapot for Christmas, many moons ago. She was quite delighted and effusive with thanks.

She had 10 children. Numerous grandchildren. Few great grandchildren.

Thus started the habit of being a teapot collector. She had the study filled with shelves where she could put the umpteen teapots she got every Christmas from the family.

I did ask my husband if she really liked them as I could almost see the light leaving her eyes as she unpacked yet another.

She had approximately 160 when she died.

PS I use old woollen socks as the initial stuffing and then knitting yarn, then sewing thread to make the ball ready for decorating.

Historically they were often made as children's toys.

Temari are Japanese thread balls. They used to be made from scraps of fabric made into a ball by winding thread around and around until you have a sphere. Then you mark divisions (lines of longitude mostly) and embroider patterns using those guidelines.

I like to think of it as embroidering Platonic solids onto spheres or two-dimensional figures on a curved surface.

What is a temari? I've never heard of one before 🤔

I have eight teapots, three of which are in use and one of which MrB won in a raffle. That will get donated to another raffle or fundraising sale.

My Daily Teapot (😂) is a glass on that fits under my thick teacosy and serves me my 3 early morning cups of tea.
A larger Evesham one comes out if I'm making tea for several people at once.
And the iron Japanese one that MrB brought back from Basel earlier this year is used at tea (dinner time when we are having green tea with our meal instead of wine.

Of the others, only one has a lid that fits/matches but I also collect pottery lids in the hope of finding lids that work on others.

Oh yes, one of them leaks so is only used as a thread holder (thread end comes through the spout) when I'm winding a temari. Photo shows a pause in winding with the temari ball 'lidding the leaky teapot.

I used to have a few teapots but sent several to a charity shop recently.
This is my favourite (that I have kept). Photo is from the Internet as cupboard door is blocked by sorting-out "stuff in progress"!

Mine is a replacement for a wedding present which was sadly dropped many years ago. It has a strainer - but frankly I don't use that except for very large leaf teas.
