If Royal Mail cant find your house ...

Our house is literally just around the corner from our RM. It takes just seconds to walk there.

Only a few days ago I'd ordered a parcel that was small enough to push through our letterbox.

I got an email saying it had been delivered within the date stated...which it had been...but it was pushed through the box of our directly next door neighbour... who is on holiday for 2 weeks! We often get his mail and he often gets our parcels. He well deserves his holiday as he's a builder working up to 18 hours a day 6 days a week.

I wouldn't have minded but my parcel is medical and I needed it the day it arrived!

Thankfully, he just managed to catch my husband that night and handed him the parcel just before we flew off for his holiday.

RM told us ''we got slightly confused with the address'' but our house names are not similar and his ...his doesn't have a name but ours does, and his front door is green where as ours is black so I don't know how RM got so confused!

What 3 Words is used in so many addresses. I would download that from the App Store and view your 3 strange unconnected words. So useful in other ways.

Nannan2, the whole world is divided into 3 metre squares. What3words has given a unique 3 word address to each square. It shouldn't matter that your house is a new build, it's built on some of those squares. Different parts of my house have different words.
I gave delivery companies my What3words address for my garden gate.

It is best to get things delivered to 'local' co-op or tesco express store & go pick them up- i say local but they're at least 2-3 miles away!

Theres only 1 DPD man who gets right house- if he's not working we've no chance! Unfortunately Amazon have started using DPD for most of their deliveries rather than their own drivers/vans! So i cancelled my subscriptions from Amazon & i'm going to tell them why.

I tried what 3 words but didnt work & when i tried look a second time was given different words and on map didnt look to be EXACTLY were i live- we have a brand new house only completed end of september and getting deliveries to the correct house is a bl**dy nightmare- the couriers are bad and DPD in particular- they take stuff to either first address on street or go right past my house & leave things with someone else just cause theyre getting more than one parcel. One of my sons had a parcel go missing- the woman at the other house(1 of neighbours told him who had that doormat in photo!) said DPD had delivered it to them but come back & got it- yet he'd not bothered to drop it at ours even though he was passing it! 4days later after contacting retailer it came to us-rather battered box- either that or they sent a replacement?Royal mail were actually getting it right- until i replied to email to just redeliver on another day as id be out- and instead they left it next door- and we dont really know them yet so i had to go collect it and apologise(its happened twice now) only ones who can find us are takeaway drivers/supermarket deliverys(only because i put down nearest pub in the orders box)

Use What3Words, biglouis. Then they've no excuse.

We use it in our address all the time, although Royal Mail are in fact the best delivery service here.

I bought a printer on Ebay a few weeks ago. I live in Oxford, but Fedex tracking showed that it had been delivered to a postcode/address in Clitheroe, Lancs. I had received an email showing my postal address, stating that it had been left with me at this same time. Fortunately Ebay gave me an immediate refund, but I can't understand what went wrong. I then found another printer at a lower price, which arrived safely.
I have yet to set up the printer, these things never work for me!

What they do here is dump it at the nearest post office if they can’t deliver and you haven’t asked them to leave it on the doorstep. You get a small postcard with a number and have to go over there ,show I.D., and pick it up. Some of them are lazy and don’t even attempt delivery, just shove a postcard in your mailbox. That’s probably why more and more private and faster companies are moving in on them.

What a brilliant idea! I'm going to use that app. This is the second time in two days that I have learned something useful from Gransnet!

We are lucky as we are on first name terms with the postman and the DPD man so they always find us!

After a few missing parcels, I think they mostly know our address now. As do the take-away places. (I think I've put the place on the map 🤣).
Well, that is, except the waterboard, who are still telling us our address does not exist!
I sometimes think coutiers just can't be bothered at times, so they drop them wherever, BUT...have a look at the 'What 3 Words' app, get your 3 words, and put them on any delivery orders you make. That pinpoints your property!!

Years back I used to deliver cash collection envelopes for a charity. I didnt need to know the name or number of a house, but was amazed at how many houses had neither name nor number visible. Also how many houses had really difficult letterboxes to put the envelope through with stiff brushes or a tight snap shut mechanism. Some letterboxes were reslly high or back breakingly low.

I felt a lot of sympathy for our posties. However this doesnt excuse the laziness of some posties and delivery drivers. And I wonder as well whether any parcel I send will ever arrive.

Last christmas period I had 3 wrongly delivered mail pieces in the apsce of 2 weeks. 2 were Royal Mail so I simply handed them to my usual postie who collects my business mail. The third was Evri and had just been left outside my gate - not even at the door. It was for a road about 10 minutes walk away. There was no resemblence between that address and mine. Just another lazy driver.

My nephew dropped it off a few days later on his next visit as he can walk home that way. He said there was no reply to his knocking so he simply left it by the side door out of direct view of the street.

I sometimes wonder how anyone ever gets their parcels.

Our street is strangely numbered and half of the houses are "back to front" with the front door up an alley but the street itself is easy enough to find. The package has been left 2 streets away at the correct number but wrong street. No resemblence in the names. Probably just a lazy temporary postie.

I will investigate the app.

I wonder what the inhabitants of the house made of the card telling them that their parcel had been left in a safe place.

I have made a note of mine and use it a lot. My house is in a strangely named street (there are various bits of it with different names) and drivers often can’t find us.

Having the app on my phone could come in handy too if ever I get stuck up a mountain😉

I have now given my What3words address to all the delivery companies. One driver told me that his GPS isn't specific enough.

You can use What Three Words to help delivery drivers find you. I sometimes put it in the 'notes' section of an order.

If you haven't come across it, it is an app which gives you three words as a code to the square metre of the earth that you are standing on. Anyone else with the app can find you with those words, so it is useful for ambulance drivers and mountain rescuers etc too.

The usual postman knows our locality (all house names and no road names) , but when he is off and a temporary postman delivering- things can end up anywhere. Other delivery company’s are very hit and miss, so we have a text group for our hamlet to help get the correct packages to the right house. However today, the usual postman knocked on the door with a parcel that only had the first two letters of my husbands first name legible as the ink had run in the rain and half the post code and he knew it was for us!
I would possibly knock on the door if I knew the residents of the house were in but if out and I saw my incorrectly delivered parcel sat outside in the rain would just rescue it.
