what hope is there for any other courier?
I was expecting a new BT hub yesterday and when I checked the tracking discovered it had been mis-delivered to a nearby house. There was a message saying they had delivered the package and a picture of a doorway where it had been left. Not my doorway!
The thing is that the delivery notification said they had left the package in "your safe place" and posted a message through the door to say where it was. I was furious as I spent all day listening out for it and CCTV showed no mail van had been to my house. I would never ask for a package to be left if I was going to be in all day. These hubs cost over £100 and I would not be leaving it out in the wet.
Of course I could simply get a replacement from BT but thats not the point. I was furious. My cleaner recognised the doorway (he passes it on his way into the estate) and offered to go and try to retrieve it for me. We downloaded the picture onto his phone and a copy of the order email as proof. Twenty minutes later he was back with the hub, grinning.
It turns out he didnt bother knocking and asking for the package as it was still where the postie had left it. He just lifted it and brought it back. After all, it was my package with my name and address clearly written.
Do you think he should have knocked on the door? He says no, its not dishonest to take back your own property and might have caused an argument if he knocked. Now the "wrong" house inhabitants will be none the wiser.
