Central heating

I don’t have any central heating so you make do and mend and find other ways of keeping warm
I rarely get colds though

Like Whitewave my conservatory is warm at this time of the year in the morning, being east facing.
I am in here now and the temperature is 20.5.
It will be like this until lunchtime.
Outside it is raining and chilly.
Heating will come on in the morning after next week if temperatures stay the same.

I looked at the house temperature yesterday - 22c so the heating won’t be on yet. It was chilly out this morning though - but the house stays warm as it is heated by the conservatory downstairs.

I’m hanging on as long as possible 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
Having unpacked and rediscovered my winter woollies however I find I have enough to wear them 2 at a time and I also have some lovely cashmere jackets/wraps/ponchos which I plan to wear indoors if necessary - as I have nowhere smart to wear them to anyway!

I don't do cold either.

Ours is coming on (of it's own volition) most mornings now. We boost it in the evening if needed.

It's darned chilly here in the mornings now, unseasonably so,
Absolutely don't want to put the CH on yet. Perish the thought!
So I've bought a little fan heater thing from Argos and am collecting it later today. It will come in handy.
I'm in my warm fleecy house trousers this morning and a big warm cardigan. But the sun is shining.

If I really feel chilly, despite adequate clothing, the heating goes on. But we’re not there yet.

Dh doesn’t feel the cold as much as I do but I notice that he’s more likely to admit to feeling chilly nowadays. When younger he never did.

This morning for the first time I’m regretfully out of my summer trousers. I have on my new M&S ‘cosy’ jeggings, a thin camisole, a long thinnish polo neck jumper, and a padded gilet. And warm socks!

I must dig out my sheepskin ‘house boots’ and put them in the washing machine. Several years old now but invaluable when it’s really cold.

I'm more into door curtains, bubble-wrapped windows, wearing layers, electric blankets (and throws) - along with plenty of walks and hot drinks. Central heating is a last resort.

Mine is off for a long time yet - but then, I'm in London, with it's own microclimate.

I’ve been trying to hold off to keep the bills down but feel the temperature has really dropped this week. I’ve had to layer up my clothing and have a body warmer on around the house today.

I’m looking forward to my teenage grandchildren spending the weekend with me and as it’s currently 14c indoors I’m going to put the heating on before they arrive to take the chill off the house. I don’t want them to say in years to come “remember when we used to stay at Gran’s and her house was cold and miserable” 😆

Our heating is never turned off. It is set at 21 so if it dropped below that in July it would come on. I don’t do cold 😟

I suppose it depends where you live. This area is usually frost free thanks to the Gulf Stream. Last winter my friend who lives about 30 miles inland was snowed in several days but nothing here. The heating goes on for one hour in the morning in cold weather once winter arrives. We turn it on as needed during the day.

PS I bet that article is SE England-based.

Except for short warm spells in late May and week or so in August, ours comes on for an hour every morning and evening. Later in the year I'll adjust it to stay on longer if the temperatures are lower than at the moment – currently about 10º.

We've lived here 17 years and this has been the same every year. All my relations who live in warmer (and less damp) places think it's hilarious that I call 17º outside 'hot' 😂
