The boy,the mole,the fox and the horse

I’ve just watched it with a view to letting my sleepover guests watch it, but 6 year old is at the ‘ but why?’ stage, and I can hear all his questions already, probably mainly about the boy’s parents’ whereabouts and what they will eat! I think it’ll have to wait for a while.

The book has arrived and I realise that it is too old for 4 year old. It will be kept for his older brother. I have ordered a Peter Rabbit book instead.

I think this book's theme is that "feeling at home" and "belonging" resides in the heart, as opposed to a physical place.

The boy starts by searching for a physical place and not to feel lost and small, but finds the what he needs is there right in front of him in the sharing and truths of the animals he meets.

Lovely embroidery!

Did a random watch of this with adult son. We were both so moved by it. Me more than him. I welled up when the horse asks the boy a question (can’t quite remember how it’s phrased) and he said ‘Hope’. A beautiful tale.

I recorded it for my grandson on christmas day. He loves it and wont let me delete it. He still watches it a lot. I love it too.

Agreed - the animated version enhances the book greatly.

I watched it again last night - haven’t seen the book - I found it so depressing and it made me cry!
I wanted the boy to be taken in with all the creatures!

My daughter bought me this book a while ago. I think it will be the next Christmas programme, taking the Snowman's place. I also found comparison with The Bible - forgiving, helping
and friendship.

I follow Charlie Mackasy on Instagram. He posts quite often. I find his work very uplifting.

My sister bought this for my birthday in lockdown ...look at a new page everyday ....just loaned it to my 11 year old granddaughter to read ...

Yammy Yes I now live in Northumberland and lots of words are shared and accents intermingle.

It's because we have the Reiver blood in us, The accents slides from one country to the other in Northumberland in Cumberland it slides until it reaches Annan and then we have trouble understanding them unless we talk what we call "broad". My forebears are Armstrongs and Elliots from up on the Cheviots the worst of the worst. Its embarrassing in Carlisle all their names are in the pavement and so many family names are there.Our chimneys reek and we have sneaks on the door I bet you say the same.

I plan to buy the Scottish version which is The laddie the Mowdie the Tod and the Cuddie.

Those words are used for animals in Cumberland as well. A farmer friend's car reg. is TOD. My father caught mowdies in traps and we have a saying "Did y ever see a cuddie jump awore a five barred yat. The laddie would be a Lal lad.
We share so many words with the Scots.

I’ve had the book for a while but resisted the film in case it wasn’t true to it. But it was, simply delightful and very moving. Agree with NanKate about The Wind in the Willows and also Anne of Green Gables for me.
