Toys from Your childhood

I had a Kaleidoscope which I loved and metal skates that were always parting in the middle and I’d end up on the floor.

I had a teddy bear called Toffee, and a much loved doll called Ruth. I’m sadvthat I have lost both!

I still have my first ted, but was gutted when my parents had a loft clear out and threw away everything else. The main things I played with were Tiny Tears and Teeny Tiny Tears dolls and a lovely dolls house that I had for years. Another favourite was Shaker Maker, I used to sit for hours painting the figures that I'd made with it.

Tanith I asked one year for skates as all my friends were floating around in white ice skate boots When Christmas come there was a box of skates when I opened it it was those awful metal things that had a screw in the middle I never got used to them and used to scratch around while all my friends floated
I had a much loved black doll ( can’t remember her name) and a celluloid boy doll called Boy (I was so inventive) and a rag doll called Num num however my very favourites were a dolls house and farmyard my Dad made me they were impeccable, little lights that lit up, carpets on the stairs etc When I left home they disappeared I think mum probably sold them on I so wish I had them now they were wonderful

My mother’s ‘Women's Weekly’ used to give knitting patterns for them.

I had several dolls including a black one and a boy one (no bits, this was the early 50s!) called Jimmy. Also a farmyard with painted metal animals and fences (lead?😱) and a dolls’ house for which you could buy little packets of plastic furniture from Woollies. And I remember a kaleidoscope too. I was an only child and grandchild, definitely spoiled by my maternal grandparents.

Like you Alioop I still have my first Teddy, his name is Rupert and he is 82 years old. But just like your Mother my Mother gave away all my toys and books without even asking me. I admit I had left home but they were in a cupboard in my old bedroom and it was a large house so not taking up any room. When I asked why she had given them away she replied Oh you don't want them anymore! I was furious and have never even after all these years forgiven her. My daughters, bless them know how it upset me and have since given me one or two of my favourite books as a memento. It may seem very childish but I was an only child and some of my toys were my friends, Even now at 83 years old it still rankles, I really must let it go ans grow up!

Clearing out the attic the other day, I found my favourite doll called Baba, had her since I was a baby. She has a rubber face and a soft body. Gave her a bath and washed her little pink dress. Love her to bits.

I still have the mini zinc bath I got as part of a laundry set, sixty three years ago. We use it now to mix wallpaper paste.
It comprised a wringer on wheels (my brother used to sit on it and I pushed him), a scrubbing brush, a scrubbing board, a zinc pail and a mini bar of green soap. I loved that set!!

The only thing left from my childhood is a Girls Companion book which dad gave to his sister when she was about 13 for Christmas. My favourite doll (which I buried in the garden when it was beyond repair) was called Flower. I used to knit clothes for her. My daughter had several dolls and she called them all Elizabeth, which is her second name. My ex Royal Marine son still has his teddy which no one is allowed to touch! Younger son is happy for his niece to play with his old toys which were stored in his room.

I still have a doll I named Christine. She is stored in a drawer in my bedroom. She needs restrung as the elastic holding her together perished long ago.

I've often wondered if the teddy bear ladies in the Repair Shop would fix her. I've never applied.

travelnan I was an adult and no longer living at home, but I'm still so upset too. The only reason I still have Brown Bear is because I took him with me thank goodness.

Those expanding roller skates were awful, you had a kids size 11 on at the start and by the time you got round the street corner they stretched out to a size 4 and had a cut knee.

I loved my dolls, especially the last one I got for, possibly, my 10th birthday. She had rooted hair and I called her Daisybell.

I still have my my Britain’s Miniature Garden, though a lot of the plastic flowers have gone very brittle. My sister and I bought little individual packs with our saved up pocket money, from the toy department of Beales in Bournemouth. My maternal grandparents lived in Bournemouth and we always spent the month of July there.

I spent HOURS playing with cardboard dress up dolls with paper clothes! Also loved the things that had "seasons", such as whip and top, skipping rope, marbles, and batting a tyre down the street with a stick, bicycle tyre, that is.

My dolly is called Belinda and wears a blue and white home knitted outfit, she’s about 65 years old now.

Yes it was and I loved getting the Bunty each week.

I had the teeny tiny tears doll. It’s still at my dads house in the small bedroom along with a collection of various dolls my mum had when she was alive.
I also loved getting Spirograph one Christmas also Mousetrap game and one called Mousey,mousey.

I still have all my 1960s Lego, added to when the DC were small. Also two teddies and a doll, but other toys perished and have been thrown away.

I loved Spirograph and my Etch-a-Sketch, and was an avid reader although I only have about twenty of my childhood books. A highlight of my childhood was when my parents bought a huge secondhand armchair for my bedroom. My mother made a couple of cushions and I would spend hours curled up reading.

But still have a greenhouse with staging and a cold frame/trellis etc

DaisyAlice, yes, I think it was Bunty that had dress up dolls.
I loved paper dress up dolls, especially Norah and Tilly from my mum’s magazine.
My favourite toys were gardening sets from Britains I think. You could plant out all sorts of flower arrangements with a dibber, in bases with holes in. I loved grape hyacinths best.

When I was a child we got two goats and named them Norah and Tilly. Was it Woman's Realm? That's the magazine my mother had.
