Browsing through a beauty feature on hair yesterday at my hairdressers I came across a feature long or short hair after 60. Also it mentioned colours too, Blonde or brunette etc. It got me wondering how many people actually have shorter hair as they get older

I had long hair down my back when I got married, I then went to a shoulder length bob which I loved but got fed up of after years and years. I decided when I was in my early 40's to go short. I am at the moment very in-between and it's driving me mad at not having any particular style due to trying to grow it back into a short bob. Just last week I saw 2 women whom Ive known for years but only occasionally see them in the passing, they both had shortish bobs and when I looked at them being the same age as myself I thought 'no' not for me. Now Ive been growing my hair for about 6 months now only to find it's too thick, it's taking too long to get to where I would like it to be so now I'm phoning hairdresser tomorrow to make an appointment to have it cut and put back into the short style I think I prefer. Oh the dilemma, it's only hair after all wink

I used to have very dark hair. Now in my 70s it is silver grey. I have it cut in a bob. Shorter at the back. Very easy to keep looking good . Just wash and go.

I’m lucky I’m quite dark haired just tiny bit of grey mostly underneath.i sport a bob and it suits had it longer but it aged me shorter makes me look a bit more in style and younger! I do colour it though once a month it leaves it in good condition. My dad was 73 when he died and not one single grey hair!,

My hair, over the years has, to use a friend’s expression, “gone up and down like a tart’s drawers”. (Hope no-one found that offensive).
I was naturally blonde and, with the hairdresser’s assistance, kept it that way until very recently. It was always very straight too but, recently started to become curly. As it was for a longish time in a shoulder length bob, I had to blow dry or use straighteners to keep it smooth and straight. In a fit of ‘fedupness’, I asked my hairdresser to cut it short into a pixie cut but, am not finding that any easier to care for. I hate a curly fringe! Any advice would be welcome. My hair is very fine too.

Short but everyone else prefers longish, but it is just such a fash.
Shortish just now and friends ask me if I am ill, duh.

I had this very conversation with a new hairdresser only recently. I used the same person for years out of habit and had the same shoulder length cut time and again, and it was only the salon closing that made me go elsewhere.
She strongly believes that hair should reflect your personality AND your lifestyle but age should determine your colour. I’d agree that once hair fades and greys, your skin tone changes too, and as a result no-one older looks good with dark dyed hair.
Anyway, I’m thrilled with my new slightly shorter that collar length angled bob. And so many people have said how well it suits me. smile
