Sleep is the most selfish thing that we can do. You can’t share your sleep with anybody, so why share your bed?

Double?
Singles?
Separate rooms perhaps?

We share a bed in the U.K. but not out in Spain - we have two singles - for many months it’s so darned hot!

Which do you choose?

Separate rooms here. I'm upstairs he's downstairs.
It works very well for us. DH still works silly hours and usually gets up at 3am! I'm an owl, my usual bedtime is between 11pm and 1am.
We also have separate bathrooms.

I know it is called grans nett but I do read the comments when an interesting subject pops up we still sleep together 55years has just flown by, but it never got to be a habit, a little shared Bodily warmth is still nice. And we can look after each other if necessary, I hope this goes on a bit longer but I do wonder from time which side of the bed will be empty first I do hope it is my side I would not fare well on my own.

I have a partner and we both have our own homes. We sleep together four nights a week. I have a double bed but I wish I'd have bought a king as he is a very light sleeper and if I get up to go to the loo he always hears me moving and asks if I'm alright. When we go away and it's a huge bed he is none the wiser if I'm up or down! He's a snorer but not too bad as I seem to sleep through most of it.

We sleep together....in 'spoons' mostly - me tucked in to his back. I hate being away from him - my big old bear - I am mole because of my grey fluffy dressing gown.

My husband has restless leg syndrome ..... snores like I don’t know what and it blighted so many years of sleep for me. Also I’m a lark and he’s definitely an owl. I’m up at 5.30 am and he’s only been Zin bed for 4 hours.... it all proved too much for me, so we now sleep in separate rooms..... and life is so much better. All you folk too worried to try it.... take the plunge.

We bought electric beds with separate basesi in a double -6ft - frame, which gave us plenty of room, while I was able to help him when needed.
Now he is sleeping in a hospital bed downstairs, while I am upstairs, with his side taken over by our two cats!
I do miss the closeness..a hospital bed is no good for a cuddle.

Cool Gran we have separate rooms too, it started with my menopause being too hot in bed throwing the covers off , DH would go in to the spare room , also I have restless leg syndrome and need to be able to move and fidget in bed , I also have to get up and walk round , We both had such disturbed nights he stayed in the spare room ever since, it works , we both get the sleep we need and we are as close as ever , My question Coolgran is do you take anything fir Restless legs,? it drives me mad and is also painful sometimes,

Hetty58 Tue 24-Dec-19 16:35:34

I can't choose as my favourite option isn't there (sleep with somebody else)!

ALANaV Tue 24-Dec-19 16:41:13

Separate houses definitely ! ha ha …...but now I am on my own it is wonderful to have a king size bed all to myself ...the funny thing is I always seem to wake up still having slept on one side and not in the middle as I intended !!!

Hetty58 Tue 24-Dec-19 17:01:19

My second husband couldn't sleep on the spare side of the bed - oh no, just had to have 'my' side (for 21 years)! I soon reverted back to my favourite side!

Anais, I agree with ninathenana. I live too far away but i'm sure you will find the perfect nana. Good luck and a merry Christmas to you all x

Joyfulnanna Tue 24-Dec-19 17:38:11

This is very interesting. Thanks for starting the thread. I like to sleep alone, get a much better night's rest, but having a super king bed makes it easier to sleep together.

Dianehillbilly1957 Tue 24-Dec-19 17:55:32

I'm happy in my own room, doesn't mean I think less of my partner, but he snores, fidgets & as I'm a lousy sleeper everything disturbs me! Also I can wake during the night & have a read without disturbing him, win, win.

Separate rooms about 3 miles apart. Lovely

farview Tue 24-Dec-19 18:16:06

Haha...much as my post is very true...I also am in fits of laughter now..thanks ladies ??????

Tennisnan Tue 24-Dec-19 18:45:17

Separate rooms, own king size beds, own bathrooms due his snoring, night time loo breaks, and different body clocks, He was reluctant and upset at first. Would not let me tell anyone. DIL didn't help as viewed it as impending divorce. Articles like this help explain it more. Both love it now and he comes in for a cuddle most mornings when he wakes up. Sleep quality, mood and health much improved for both as a result.

blue60 Tue 24-Dec-19 18:47:01

Always together.

Barmeyoldbat Tue 24-Dec-19 19:39:14

Same room, same double bed, well most the time. I won't sleep in the spare room anymore as the mattress is to soft for and my back aches. So Mr Barmey will often move during he night to the spare bed bed because of me being restless, him not being able to sleep or for some other reason. At the moment we have been in separate rooms for about 6 weeks, first due to me with chest infection, cold and cough and now Mr B has it so he still there.

When we were away recently we slept in a 6 ft wide bed and Mr B said he would text me when he wanted a cuddle.

I estimate we have a 60/40 arrangement. DH snores for Britain some nights but not others. Some nights I have perhaps kicked or pushed him 50 times. I can’t sleep anywhere other than in my own bed. He’s asleep within seconds whereas I’m a very restless sleeper. He’s got better at predicting when he’s most likely to have to sleep in the Snoratorium. I kicked him out of the en-suite to the main bathroom earlier this year. Got fed up with toothpaste spray all over the mirror, in the basin, water everywhere. Downside is there’s 2 lots of bedding to see to.
