My older son, his wife and their toddler daughter moved in yesterday and today my younger son also arrived to stay. They live reasonably close by (30/55minutes drive respectively) and we see them all very regularly during the year, so we are delighted that they still are excited and want to come and stay at ‘home’ for Christmas. My daughter-in-law’s parents live within a stone’s throw of my house so they spend some time with her family too.
When they’re here they pitch in and cook, bake, load the dishwasher etc. and are a joy to be with. As I’m still recovering from illness they’ll ensure I don’t overdo things by helping out. They’re very good friends to each other and although they’re parents themselves they still love to play board games, go cycling and continue to enjoy the pastimes of their youth when they get together.
I appreciate how lucky we are, but I wonder how others feel about adult children coming home to stay for the holiday? Would you want them to? Is it a chore or a delight? Do old quarrels re-ignite or are they pleased to be together?
The land is dry, and the people are ...stupid?
