Having just watched the interview with Emily Maitlis, I just cannot make my mind up about him , I find it strange that he could not recollect having that photo taken with the girl with his arm around him , I thought he was very cautious with his answers, What do you all think ?

Anniebach Mon 18-Nov-19 09:54:52

How has the queen ‘stood by her son ‘ ? Has she given an interview defending him ?

Gonegirl Mon 18-Nov-19 09:55:07

I now await the shock horror. Especially from sw.

Anniebach Mon 18-Nov-19 09:57:12

Feeling brave gonegirl. ?

janipat Mon 18-Nov-19 10:02:46

Gonegirl I think these girls had been groomed and abused from younger ages than 17. And they are underage in that part of America so our age of consent is totally irrelevant. Some parts of the world have ages of consent of 11 and 12, so by your reasoning should we accept people from those countries having sex with our girls of that age in this country?

Callistemon Mon 18-Nov-19 10:03:27

But we are, Gonegirl.
Epstein was convicted years ago of procuring a 14 year old girl for purposes of prostitution. Another 36 girls, some also that young, were identified as being abused by him.
He served time in prison and was facing trial again for sex trafficking of minors but conveniently committed suicide.

Gonegirl Mon 18-Nov-19 10:08:02

Ok. That's Epstein. But it's not Prince Andrew is it? All he has done in actuality is indulge in a rich man's playboy lifestyle, which we all know he does anyway.

No way would Andrew have slept with a fourteen year old. Just a seventeen year old who was probably well up for it.

Gonegirl Mon 18-Nov-19 10:09:04

And being British himself, he would have considered her to be of the age of consent.

Anniebach Mon 18-Nov-19 10:09:55

We know Andrew was a friend of Epstein, we know he stayed in Epsteins homes.

We know Andrew had a photograph taken with the girl who claims he had sex with her, the photograph was taken in this country where the age of consent is 16.

Callistemon Mon 18-Nov-19 10:10:04

Well, all this is taking attention off Trump, the Clintons and their association with Epstein.

Gonegirl Mon 18-Nov-19 10:10:19

Don't insult me.

Alexa Mon 18-Nov-19 10:11:12

Some paedophiles would love to have sex with young girls but they don't do so as they know young girls cannot judge sexual matter for themselves and so need to be protected. These are good men.

Other paedophiles are sexual predators who regard any girls as his rightful prey. These are bad men.

Gonegirl Mon 18-Nov-19 10:12:07

It's taking it away from the General Election as well! grin

Gonegirl Mon 18-Nov-19 10:14:19

Well, we are talking about Prince Andrew here Alexa. We can't judge him on what "some paedophiles" may want. He is not a paedophile.

I think there could be too much shock horror involved here. Not with Epstein but with Andrew.

Gonegirl Mon 18-Nov-19 10:15:05

The young woman in the picture does look very happy.

Gonegirl Mon 18-Nov-19 10:17:13

I think he should have said "Yes, I had sex with her. She was 17, over the age of consent where I come from, and she was quite happy with it. So what?"

janipat Mon 18-Nov-19 10:23:12

Gonegirl I wasn't insulting you, I was showing that because our age of consent is 16 doesn't make it right for someone to ignore the higher age of consent of another country. I expected you to be horrified at the thought of an age of consent as young as 11. And I do find it insulting to the girls involved that you think they were "up for it" Do you not understand the reality of "grooming"?

I think he should have said "Yes, I had sex with her. She was 17, over the age of consent where I come from, and she was quite happy with it. So what?" So equally a Nigerian could say the same of an "up for it" 12 year old in this country. Wasn't it also the defence for the Rochdale abuses that those girls, some not much older, were "up for it" ?

Anniebach Mon 18-Nov-19 10:23:26

Did she keep the photograph because she was with a Prince ?

I don't think it was wise of him to say he never really partied.

It's well known he had a playboy life style. If he'd stuck to admitting it, it would be easier to understand that he maybe didn't think of the 'underage in America' angle but trying to come across as a misunderstood, principled man just doesn't ring true.

Alexa Mon 18-Nov-19 10:29:07

Gonegirl no mature man should have sex with a young girl who is either trafficked or does not know how behaving like a floozie will damage her even in today's 'permissive' world.

Very few young girls are truly streetwise.

BlueBelle Mon 18-Nov-19 10:34:57

Well we can go round and round this for hours I think the majority of people remarking on here see him as duplicitous, and arrogant who was more than likely completely involved with these seedy goings on it’s got absolutely nothing to do with overseas presidents or political figures ours are every bit as corrupt as any others in the world we just have a strange belief that the Brits are above all this
If the Queen believes in his indiscretions in her heart she must be completely distraught especially if he’s the ‘favourite’ I wonder why? He has a sense of self importance that isn’t so noticeable in his siblings
It shouldn’t just go away because he’s Royal family but that has happened since the ‘off with their heads that ll keep them quiet’ regime has been going on for as long as we or any other country has had a royal family or presidential head They have never really had to answer for anything have they ?

Gonegirl Mon 18-Nov-19 10:38:02

janipat I'm not answering your post. You obviously have other quite different cases in mind.

Callistemon Mon 18-Nov-19 10:38:35

merlotgran I was feeling sorry for Andrew's daughters until I looked at that article and saw that Beatrice was at the party with him!

Gonegirl Mon 18-Nov-19 10:41:40

Alexa I do agree a man of his age should not have had sex with a girl that young, underage or not.

merlot Ooh, he has enjoyed himself in the past hasn't he. Definitely a dirty old-ish man.

Anniebach Mon 18-Nov-19 10:43:24

There was nothing illegal about that party was there ?

Gonegirl Mon 18-Nov-19 10:44:18

To be honest, I bet that sort of thing goes on in nightclubs in London and all over the place. Probably harmless. Just the Mail bigging it up again.
