I was merely making my own observation on PA and the way his brief military service may have endeared him to HM.

Absolutely nothing at all to do with his time spent as a Naval Officer......and you know this because?.....

The combination of nature & nurture for each & everyone of us is unique. No one knows how their lives will pan out in terms of behaviour , but we do have laws that provide a general consensus of how we are expected to behave.
We are also aware that there will always be consequences, if caught in the act of flouting said laws.
Some folks are morally bankrupt, arrogant or just plain stupid, leaving them to believe that they are untouchable in regard to their own behaviour.
I have no doubt that PA has had a surprising wake up call.
We will never know if he fully regrets or even accepts the severity of his actions.
As he is a father to daughters one would hope so.

Prince Phillip saw active duty in WW2 from the age of 18.

During WW1, George VI was mentioned in despatches for his action as a turret officer aboard HMS Collingwood in the Battle of Jutland.

Even the Queen, as Princess Elizabeth, during WW2, joined the ATS in 1945 when she was 18/19. She trained as a military truck driver and mechanic. The end of the war just a few weeks after her 19th birthday, cut short her military career.

PA was the only one of HM's children to have seen active service and so that may have made him a bit special.

He never raised a finger and I'm not sure he raised his voice either, to we children. He was gentle, kind and set high standards for us in terms of social responsibility, kindness towards others.

I can reiterate those words about my own father who was in WW1 through to WW2 and beyond in the Royal Navy. He was quiet, caring, considerate and socially responsible for the rest of his life.

Likewise other ex-servicemen I know, one of whom served with Andrew in the Falklands - but did not follow the same path as Andrew after leaving the service, as he holds down a responsible job, is a loving father and grandfather and very caring and socially responsible too.

How can being in the services be a good thing or a bad thing? It's a job.

What we are objecting to is the supposed link in trisher's post between a career in the services and associating with known paedophiles.

Re the sweating; has anyone done any research on why people stop sweating, if this harms them in any way and whether this research could help those who sweat excessively?
Perhaps Prince Andrew could offer himself as a guinea pig for such research. It could be groundbreaking.

I'm disgusted at the implication that serving in the armed forces is linked to paedophilia.

My dh was in the Royal Navy for fourteen years yet he's nothing but a great big teddy bear. :heart: His own father joined the RAF at 15 and served throughout WW2 but if anything, he was an even bigger teddy bear.

Queen Elizabeth has fulfilled her duty to the country. As we are a sovereign nation, she should hand over the reins to Prince Charles who, after his early unfortunate choice of bride, has proved in spades that he cares for the people, the environment and nature. The RF needs to become worthy of the respect it is afforded.

The queen see it as her duty until she dies. Did she not make this promise when she was 21 ?

I like the idea of monarchy by family dynasty.

The children can be reared and educated to the job along with its special moral requirements as with some families with medical tradition, or deep sea fishing, or farming.

The royal family is not up to date. It is too much a family of silly aristocrats where it should be a family of service where service is required even serving in a badly paid job such as nursing. If the Duke of York was not intellectually fitted for a posh job he should have done some lowly manual job or perhaps served in the back room of some charity such as Shelter.

Prince Charles seems to have an idea of the meaning of 'service'. He will be a good monarch as is his mother. He will need to stop killing animals for fun.

If our head of state were an elected one we could not have got a better one than Elizabeth Windsor.

I think she should apologise as she is wrong and that is an insult to all who served and are serving in our armed forces.
