OMG some of the assumptions made and the extreme conclusions drawn by some on this thread are amazing. Firstly I never suggested that the armed forces were linked to paedophilia (and as I understand it PA would not even be guilty of any such offence in this country, the age of consent being 16 not 17). If you chose to draw that conclusion perhaps it says more about you and your life experiences than it does me. I did say that the armed forces are not appropriate or good places for some people to spend time. I would imagine there are many jobs that do not suit some people and that only reinforce existing damage rather than helping to change attitudes So I am certainly not going to apologise for anything I said. The only thing that would make me apologise would be some definite proof that his service helped PA change his attitudes and become a better person and we all know there isn't any.
It constantly amuses me that all the supporters of the RF are up in arms about this whole thing. What on earth do they think happens when you elevate someone to the status of RF? Even perfectly nice respectable people can become nasty and agressive if they are put in a position of power.

I hope I have always found it somewhere within me to have some sympathy with every human being. It is after all one of the best characteristics of humanity.
Annie I so agree but I am trying to maintain sympathy for you.

If anything, a spell in the RN should have tempered Andrew's arrogant behaviour. He had to be part of a team and fight alongside his fellow officers and ratings, relying on their training and support for his very survival.

Prince Harry's active service was character forming and the Invictus Games is a result of the profound effect it had on him.

I have a feeling that post RN, Andrew quickly reverted to the pampered, selfish individual he's always been.

trisher was trying to work out why he followed this route and added that his time in the Army would have contributed to this.

As he wasn't in the Army we can dismiss this argument anyway, it is a non-sequitur.
