Having just watched the interview with Emily Maitlis, I just cannot make my mind up about him , I find it strange that he could not recollect having that photo taken with the girl with his arm around him , I thought he was very cautious with his answers, What do you all think ?

oldgimmer1 Tue 19-Nov-19 09:29:49

Doodledog - it was me who suggested she could be after a payout.

As you say, I doubt very much whether attempting to prosecute PA through the courts would bring results.

We don't know if the underage sex, if it took place, took place in US soil or in the UK. If it took place in the US, PA would, presumably have to be extradited to appear in court, even if the US court authorities think there is a case to answer.

There may be scope for some kind of plea bargain, which may involve PA negotiating some kind of deal to ensure that she keeps schtum. Or he may be subject to a civil case which would involve compensation following a successful private prosecution (if you remember, OJ Simpson was successfully sued in a private case brought by a victim's father even though the courts had already found him not guilty).

Something similar may be afoot here. PA is a rich man!

PA didn't get the Randy Andy reputation from being a celibate, teetotal dutiful son I presume?
Personally I've always felt there was something about him that I couldn't put my finger on, something beyond breathtaking arrogance and lack of insight into the real world.
As for the interview i think he came over as utterly indifferent to the plight of those poor girls; totally privileged and untouchable by the Law.
Sickening individual.

At the very very least of course he should give a sworn statement to the American authorities as to what he knew about JE. Why wouldn’t he? Doesn’t he want to help the investigation? He may have information about people who are still alive and operating these trafficking rings. I bet he knows where GM is holed up for starters. And why shouldn’t women who have suffered get compensation? And finally why do a few women on here hate women so much?

Gonegirl Tue 19-Nov-19 09:55:47

Crikey. Who hates women? Daft thing to say.

Oldwoman70 Tue 19-Nov-19 09:59:44

Am I right in thinking he was around 40 years old when he "allegedly" slept with this 17 year old girl?

I don't think Andrew gave any thought to how old the girl was - I think he is arrogant and conceited enough to believe that any young woman would be happy to sleep with him because of who he is.

Callistemon Tue 19-Nov-19 10:00:53

That saying came to mind which I thought was rather apt:

From hero to zero

Alexa Tue 19-Nov-19 10:01:01

Such a cacophony of interest in the behaviour of one silly aristocrat!

Its obviously a media furore to draw public attention away from the truly serious issue of environmental disaster.

suziewoozie Tue 19-Nov-19 10:03:34

Goodness me fancy cacophonising about sex trafficking - whatever next. I was expecting a more intellectual response from you Alexa.

Callistemon Tue 19-Nov-19 10:07:39

No, Alexa
You don't seem to know the basic difference between the meaning of the words aristrocrat and royal so perhaps the wider implications of this whole case have not been apparent to you.

As mentioned previously, there may be more people involved than just Andrew, some of whom have held extremely high office in world affairs.

If this is how they behave socially just how seriously did/do they take their roles as saviours of the world?

Anniebach Tue 19-Nov-19 10:10:34

Seems I am the only one who thinks it strange that only Andrew has been named by lawyers , and one woman comes forward the day after his interview was aired .

All those parties, all those houses , all those girls and 2 men !

Callistemon Tue 19-Nov-19 10:14:17

Alexa you do not seem to understand that Andrew has on occasion acted on behalf of our Head of State overseas, besides being the UK's Trade Envoy and patron of charities involving young people.

He is not just a silly aristocrat as you seem to think.

Calendargirl Tue 19-Nov-19 10:22:44

Oldwoman70 pointed out that PA was 40 and the girl 17 when this all happened.
Not defending Andrew at all, but heaps of famous men have younger girlfriends, wives, whatever.
Can’t bring many to mind really, but Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti, Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster, Berni Ecclestone and wife to name a few.
I realise this isn’t what this is all about, but older men and younger girls is nothing new.

oldgimmer1 Tue 19-Nov-19 10:23:15

No @anniebach - you're not the only one!

suziewoozie Tue 19-Nov-19 10:24:42

Calendar it’s not about the age gap it’s about the possibility that she was trafficked/coerced into having sex.

oldgimmer1 Tue 19-Nov-19 10:27:01

Quite. A possibility. Nothing more. Yet.

suziewoozie Tue 19-Nov-19 10:27:01

Sorry annie but you have no idea how many men have been named during the investigation in the USA. PA is bound to get more coverage because of name recognition if nothing else.

Alexa Tue 19-Nov-19 10:31:05

Suzziewoozie and Callistemon you are both right. And yet royalty behaving illegally and immorally has been going on forever. The people who get to the top of society are with a few honourable exceptions those or the descendants of those who took what they wanted from underlings.

Anniebach Tue 19-Nov-19 10:32:10

Thank you oldgimmer1.

America has an election next year . Paul Keating former Australian PM’s daughter was photographed leaving the house. A painting of Clinton in the house .

Yet it’s Andrew the lawyers are demanding go to America

Alexa Tue 19-Nov-19 10:35:16

My finger stuttered Suziewoozie

trisher Tue 19-Nov-19 10:37:12

Could he have forgotten the photograph? I would imagine he could and he could also forget the girl. He has probably been supplied with many girls in many places, some of them voluntary, some coerced. I don't suppose he enquired closely about any of them. It isn't moral it isn't right, but it is what you get when you have men brought up to think they have some sort of aristocratic right to anything, with a father who has been a less than perfect model of fidelity.
That said he could try taking more responsibility.
I haven't listened to the interview. Life is too short to give the RF any more time than they aready get.

suziewoozie Tue 19-Nov-19 10:37:44

annie I don’t care who else should give a statement in the States - I only know I can’t think of one reason why he wouldn’t cooperate - except for the obvious one.

M0nica Tue 19-Nov-19 10:43:44

PA is also caught by the way the age of consent varies from one jurisdiction to another. If, and I do accept it is if, he had sex with her in the UK, then the age of consent is 16 and it was all entirely legal because she was 17. In some states in the US the age of consent is as young as 14.

Is PA supposed to go round with an age of consent app on his mobile and carefully check how old the girl is (demand to see her birth certificate?) then check the jurisdiction, then its age of consent before getting down to business?

suziewoozie Tue 19-Nov-19 10:50:13

Let’s suppose there is no issue about her age and consent - where does that leave us in terms of his helping the US authorities? Of his behaviour being incompatible with his status? Of his lack of empathy for the victims of JE and GM ( his friends- invited to royal residences) and remorse for at the very least his appalling judgement.

suziewoozie Tue 19-Nov-19 10:52:16

That’s a really silly post MOnica. And if he wasn’t mixing with such young girls, it wouldn’t arise anyway would it.at the very least he should just be more careful

Gonegirl Tue 19-Nov-19 11:02:03

Monica don't you think it is immoral for a 40 year old man to have casual sex with a young girl of 17? Never mind about the age of consent?
