And anyone who knows me knows also that I don't believe intelligence has anything to do with wisdom.

However. I do respect people who respect learning from others. And this includes academic qualifications.

I think some posters on here are quite right in saying more or less when it did creep in , in this society and particularly on this thread that academic qualifications are vilified.

Sorry paintingthetownred you already had the bully of the week award so I’ll have to wait until next week. I don’t have any problem posters mentioning their qualifications but in the right context of course. I also worked hard for mine and in no way do I feel inferior to you. I haven’t all mentioned mine because they aren’t relevant.

I think many of us have qualifications, however, as GrandmaJan says we don't feel it necessary or relevant to mention them. I have found that those who have to announce their qualifications, unless in a job interview, have secret doubts about their intellectual abilities

I think it's OK to have secret (or open) doubts about one's intellectual abilities. Certainly nothing to be ashamed of anyway.

A bit of self-doubting humility wouldn't go amiss with some public intellectuals.

A Third is not a First.
A PhD or Masters is not the same as a first degree
A degree from a newly promoted polytechnic is not the same as one from one of the more traditional/established/“Russell” group of universities. Or, indeed from one of the ancient Scottish, English, Welsh or Irish universities and any potential employer knows that. If they were all the same students would not be trying for the “best” university in their chosen field of study in their UCAS applications.
So don’t be so disingenuous.
