I think this has to be one of the strangest threads I've ever read on GN .... bizarre
Is Trump's Pointless War Still Rattling On And On And On.......
Soops kitchen, a place of reflection, refuge and at times revelry.
Sorry people I am 46 years of age and have been around in political circles.
I am a mother of a fourteen year old. I have three university degrees and have lived abroad for quite some time
I feel Boris Johnson can't orgainise his way out of a paper bag and all the people I know think the same
that is my milkman, my postman the people at the local shop the people at my local school.
I honestly am not being paid for saying this, but can we all come out and say...the guy needs to go,,,asap
I think this has to be one of the strangest threads I've ever read on GN .... bizarre
I have no idea how good the Drifters are. Or aren't.
Agree.
Gonegirl, agree with you.
hugs back all
Well tonight Painting, amongst other diversions, it seems I'm right here posting shed loads of drivel on GN, it passes the time. HIGNFY is on a 9 pm so we'll switch on the telly then. My dear husband is watching golf videos, or at least that's what he says he's watching,
where's the eye rolling emoticon when you need one? anyway suffice to say golf videos are about as interesting as, oh I don't know.......one of GN interminable threads on Brexit, insomuch as a lot of it ends up in the bunker, if you know what I mean.
Well as for "The Drifters" one of my dear children drifted off with nearly all my vinyl when he moved out, there were some Tamla Motowns among them. Most of its gone, bar my husband's Val Doonican's Greatest hits, yeah I know who'd want such an album, well maybe you would if you're a golfer, jumper envy! however, there's only so many times you can listen to "Paddy McGinty's Goat" without ending up on medication.
Sadly that's what they do children when they grow up and move on, they take a lot of yer stuff and leave you with a load of their old tat
then come back, on the pretext they want to see you, rake around in said old tat, to check that you haven't dumped it and deposit some more, it's a sort of latent "marking their territory" instinct. They'd take the house if it wasn't secured by it's foundations. Think Octopus, Painter, this is parenthood, you raise your little octopi, guarding them with life, an all consuming effort, vitality money ink all gone, and there we are just a mass flailing tentacles, tentacles minus suction I might add, because if those pads did work, believe me I'd have sucked back my vinyl by now.
Anway Painter I'm getting the measure of you now, and you don't come across as hoity toity at all, in fact on the contrary laid back and mellow, I've an inkling, well I would if I had any ink left, you aren't going to come over all finger wagging and shouty that leaves so many of us here trembling from verbal lacerations when we are outed for the feeble minded creatures we are from those with a clearly superior intellect.
.
Don't say "twat" say "twit"
I use to be a milk person, well just for 6 weeks and I didn't know anyones age, I was just sleepy at 4 in the morning and no one was up but me. Stopped doing it when my friend who use to sneak out and help me sometimes, and I delivered the wrong milk to a whole street. They weren't even customers.
I can think of another word we could call Boris if equality is an issue, a dick head..
brill barneyoldbat would go with that description
Terribull
Sorry not to respond to your post

'Don't say "twat" say "twit" '
nah, not the same thing at all- definitely a big TW*T with an 'A'
Our friend is building what he hopes will be the fastest milk float in the world. The record at the moment is 84.55 mph.
Isn't it funny how it's Ok now to mock or trivialise academic qualifications? I can't help thinking it is much like inverted snobbery only about education rather than class, and probably explains why education is no longer as valued or admired as it once was.
trisher I don't think anyone is mocking academic qualifications, but the OP's opening two sentences did seem to indicate she felt they qualified her as someone whose opinion was of rather more value than any gransnetters not so versed. It is as well to remember that academic achievement does not make anybody of more worth or right than the next person. If it were so, then Johnson with his academic achievements would far outrank Corbyn who has nothing to compare. Education levels are not necessarily an accurate indication of intelligence. My father was one of those who had to leave school at 14 ( eldest of a poor family) but he was one of the most intelligent people I've ever encountered, and was self taught on many, many subjects, but had not a certificate to his name. He was certainly more intelligent than his children who did obtain degrees.
Janipat it isn't unusual for someone who has academic qualifications to have had parents who didn't. For generations of working class people education and a qualification was something to be honoured and aspired to. Now apparently they are something to be hidden, not mentioned and mocked if they are.Nor is it really a case of academic qualifications making you necessarily 'better' than anyone else. (But if you doubt that some regard Johnson as better than Corbyn read this thread) Simply that once what was regarded as a something to be celebrated and applauded is now the subject of mockery. It points to a complete lack of appreciation of education at every level of society. I have no doubt that some of the posts about the OP's degrees come from GNers who are anxious for their GCs to achieve qualifications and who are concerned about the problems in schools. It's a pity they can't see that their comments link directly to those problems.
Nobody should “mock” academic achievement and I agree that the tendency in England is often to downplay it. Not the case in Scotland!
However, the sort of person who suggests they are better qualified to have an opinion because of the number of their qualifications simply invites ridicule.
Added to which, there are “degrees” and “degrees” aren’t there?
I don't think the OP was trying to make herself look better than everyone else. Just setting out her qualifications to have her opinion. That's not that bad.
there are degrees and degrees
that's mean.
This thread turned into a bullying thread. Not good.
But I still say it is disgraceful that that word has been allowed to stay on Gransnet. Gransnet has indeed become Mumsnet Mk2.
Boris Johnson is no idiot. Would that he was. He’s a calculated manipulative liar.
Somewhat off topic but I remember someone, far more intelligent than I, telling me that education is no sign of intelligence, merely an ability to retain information. Intelligence is knowing what to do with that information.
Looks like Boris has lost it again.
Taking a bit of time
but guess I've got the last laugh on this thread eh.
And one poster who said some on here are just
'bullies' - was absolutely right.
Would have thought 'grans' and 'grandads' would have risen above that one in life.
Still, have seen bullies before and will do so again. Water off a ducks back with my life experience...
Happy Saturday night people...
Sorry am I missing something here? What has 3 degrees got to do with your post paintingthetownred? Is it in the hope you think we will be in awe of your qualifications and we would think you are more intelligent than the rest of us on Gransnet? At 46 you certainly haven’t had the life experiences than most of us. By the way I have a degree and a Masters Degree but I can learn such a lot from everyone here
Perhaps not quite enough GrandmaJan. ie, It may not be a great idea to jump on other posters just because you don't like the content of their original post.
And she is 56.
RTFT.
(that means, read the fucking thread)
Info for gonegirl and others who may be interested re the allowing of the word twat on GN: in parts of the west of Scotland twat means exactly the same as twit. Or it did until recently when we began to hear from elsewhere that it meant something else. If my understanding of the crude meaning of twat is correct then I suggest that BJ, however hard he tried, could not be a twat anyway.
